The most striking thing about Keldar is his hat, a wide-rimmed flamboyantly blue and yellow hat that it is. Indeed, the first thing many people say to Keldar is a complement about his hat.
The face beneath the mask seems to be fixed in a perpetual smile, a genuine reflection of Keldar's perpetual happiness. Keldar's mouth sometimes opens and closes regularly - As Keldar opens his mouth to say something, he then thinks better of it and shuts it again, then he thinks of something else to say. Brown sideburns cover up the gnome's ears, and a goatee supplements his chin.
Keldar's figure is of average gnomish proportions, that doesn't bother to hide it's dexterity and stands tall (relatively speaking) and proud of itself. Keldar's well-practiced hands are ever-itching to lend themselves (completely without Keldar knowing it) into someone's pockets or to bring their knuckles into someone else's kneecaps.
Keldar wears clothing in similar fashion to his hat, keeping mostly true to the blue-and-yellow style.
Keldar is curious, more so even than is typical for a gnome. When bored, Keldar will often wonder off to find some new object to examine (said object may then find itself in one of Keldar's many pouches) or some new friend to talk to. This could potentially be dangerous, as some objects are deadly and some 'friends' are really bloodthirsty ogres just about to smash you with a club. When Keldar's friends hear him say "I'm bored," they usually immediately try to restrain him.
An advantage of this curiosity is that Keldar is a very good listener and storyteller. He eagerly hears the tales that his adventurer companions bring to the campfire, and is all to happy to launch into one of the stories he has heard or one of his own. This allows him to easily make friends around the taverns of Azeroth, and there are very few people who can dislike the gnome.
Like all gnomes, Keldar started his life story in Gnomeregan. He didn't show as much of an interest in mechanical inventions as the average gnome, instead focusing on other things in life, such as the behavior of other races and objects that look insteresting. Keldar was often called in as a scout in any operations inside or outside of Gnomeregan that drew the attention of any other gnome in the city, due to his uncanny ability to eavesdrop on others without being seen. More than once he had been sent to steal a particular object from the nearest travelling band of goblins that another gnome wanted.
Eventually, Keldar fell in love with another gnome engineer called Kora. The love was mutual, and after a bit of getting to know each other, Keldar proposed to her and the two were engaged. However, the troggs invaded Gnomeregan shortly before the two were due to be married. Kora quickly took arms against the monsters in the front lines, while Keldar was instead sent to near the outskirts in order to check for any other back doors that the creatures may break through. Thus, when High Tinker Mekkatorque ordered the release of radioactive gas into the city, Kora was caught in the middle of it, while Keldar was able to escape unscathed. He tried multiple times to find out if Kora survived the tragedy, but no answers came. Kora had either died or had been mutated into a leper gnome. Fearing the latter (indeed, one of the few things the gnome currently fears), Keldar swore never to go back to Gnomeregan, in case he might be forced to fight his love and kill her.
The dwarves of Ironforge readily accepted Keldar into their city along with the rest of the refugees, and finding himself free to explore more of the world of Azeroth than just Dun Morogh, Keldar did just that. He started exploring. He explored the rest of Khaz Modan before moving down to the interesting human lands of the south.
