Welcome

Welcome to WoWWiki!
As you already have, we hope you can continue to help the community and vice versa :-)
If you have any questions, someone will gladly answer them, or you could drop them at the reference desk.
We just wanted to say welcome, and to encourage you to continue contributing! --Fandyllic (talk)

Want to help more? Join a team!

As a community it is easier to get large amounts of maintenance and community projects done in teams - we like to encourage each wiki-user (also known as WoWWikians) to join one or two. Check out Community teams for more info! --Fandyllic (talk)

Want to participate? Vote!

WoWWiki isn't an absolute democracy, but many decisions are voted on. Also, we encourage members to vote on site policies. See a list of votes in progress or a list of policy proposals. --Fandyllic (talk) 5:59 PM PDT 9 Aug 2006

SerialQuests stuff

Always useful to get rid of dead stuff, thanks for marking them! :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 20:04, 12 September 2006 (EDT)

Hehe, no problems :) I hesitated to mark the few pages left since there is content on it (as messy as it can be), you might want to take a look!

--Adys 20:07, 12 September 2006 (EDT)

Keep it up - I'm not strictly supposed to delete some articles without them being tagged delete first, so your speedydeletes really help :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 11:12, 18 September 2006 (EDT)

Icons

Hey there. My plan for the icons was two-fold. First part is to go through the main raw list of icons and figure out which ones had been previously uploaded to WoWWiki, and which ones were absent. The mixture of .JPG and .PNG is a result of using the uploads that previous WoWWiki contributors had submitted to complete the list and uploading the missing ones myself. In cases of duplicates, I selected the icon that was higher quality (normally the .PNG if it has the background transparency).

The Felheart pants are still not changed as I had not reached Pants yet in my list. As I go down the list, if I see that two different versions of the same icon (PNG/JPG) are used in different articles, I select one to be the "real" one and modify the files accordingly (as I document here).

Once the list is complete and organized through the cateogories, I plan to go through and update the icons for quality where possible (as some have the ugly cyan background around the edges). I'll be resuming my organizing work shortly, but feel free to lend a hand! --Tusva 09:17, 19 September 2006 (EDT)

Aye, the plan is to have a master list, both in a tree (Template:WoW Icons Directory work in progress) and through categories (Category:WoW_Icons) that editors can browse through to find the Icon their looking for. This way, we're not getting duplicate uploads and whatnot. --Tusva 14:10, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
You may want to link your stuff to Icon. Seems like at least one of the places where people might look for a list. --Fandyllic (talk) 4:52 PM PDT 20 Sep 2006

In the end, it's probably best to have all the in-game icons be one file format, which should be .PNG. This way, we can eventually have them all with transparency, which results in a better look. I've done a few transitions, but we should start replacing all the current .JPG with .PNG versions, putting them in the correct icon category, adjusting any articles the .JPGs are linked to, and marking the .JPGs for deletion. Feel free to start doing this on your end, as I will also start looking through the categories and transitioning them to .PNG where I can. Cheers, --Tusva 02:19, 25 September 2006 (EDT)

You may want to check out BLPConverter. It's a command line tool that can work with wildcards, so you just do e.g. BLPConverter -r -m *.blp in a directory with extracted BLPs and tadaa! Lots of nice transparent PNGs.   --Mikk (T) 07:53, 25 September 2006 (EDT)

Guild pages in other languages

Just stub them and give them their 30 days to fix 3 english sentences.   --Mikk (T) 11:36, 20 September 2006 (EDT)

Okay :p Wasn't sure exactly, as precised on comments, will do. :)

Deleting icons

You may want to correlate with User:Tusva, who is currently trying to organize ALL our icons.   --Mikk (T) 11:48, 20 September 2006 (EDT)

From User talk:Mikk:
All the ones putted in speedy were basically having a wrong name. For a fast check, most icons (except very rares exception) will start their name with either "Ability", "Spell", "INV" or "Trade". For a complete check of whether the name exists, Tusva made a full Raw list. Good luck getting that sorted out hehe Adys 11:56, 20 September 2006 (EDT)
Yep, these look good to delete. Only thing I would double-check though, is that they aren't linked off of any current articles. Seems a habit of contributors is to first upload the icon they're going to use on their article, without really checking first. If they are used, then I'd either upload the correct one if it isn't done yet or wait until we get to that icon in the list. Nice work in tagging these, though! --Tusva 13:56, 20 September 2006 (EDT)
No real worry about getting them off articles, the simplest way to tag these is to get them from Unused Files page. Ill check on and tag the few I find left with a name off, I let you sort the png/jpg things :p --Adys 14:40, 20 September 2006 (EDT)

Missing Icons

Heya! Don't worry so much about flagging missing icons at this point, I'll be going through the Spell section soon and will fill in any blanks I see as I go through it. That section on the ToDo is more for my own notes, such as if I'm at work and I need to extract the icons or something, I'll know which ones to do when I get home. Thanks, though! --Tusva 02:30, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

Category:Lightninghoof Guilds

Just a quick heads-up: "Lightninghoof" is correctly spelled, it's not "Lightning Hoof". See e.g. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/realmstatus/

I yanked the SD tag.   --Mikk (T) 05:23, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

Stubbing

When making stubs, keep both the page banner and the stub banner on it please :) Banners like the guild one categorise the page automatically, unlike the stub one. Also, page banners (and categories) still apply even if the article is very short and needs stubbing. Thanks! -- Kirkburn (talk) 22:07, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

Okay, will keep an eye on that :) --Adys 22:44, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

Cursed Ore/Herb

While this isn't exactly a feature, it affected all of us for quite some time :-) I figured I'd slap a {{removedfromgame}} on it. Are you okay with that?   --Mikk (T) 09:23, 3 October 2006 (EDT)

Oh didn't know about this template =) Nice one :) --Adys 12:24, 3 October 2006 (EDT)

Headers

I hope you do realize that there are out of 40 000 articles at least 80% of them that have twice or more =Header 1= in the text.

Actually, the page title is itself a Header 1, so I don't think its remotely possible and... useful changing it all. --Adys 09:24, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

Of course the page title itself is a <h1>, that's the element describing the top structure of a document. Using <h1> multiple times on a page disrupts the document outline, making it hard to follow.
Last I was here all articles I saw were using proper standards in terms of document outlines (h1->h2->...), and now when I'm back I suddenly see just about all articles changed to improper standards (h1->h1->...).
So if some fellow decided to go break the standards on all the pages, surely it's feasible to make them right again? I tried, but was met with a revert which obviously shows that there are people completely oblivious to these standards.
I hope that these people are willing to listen and instead of breaking the standards on the pages they edit, try to fix them instead. That way it will certainly be possible to get it right again, without putting too much pressure on one individual alone.
For documentation on these standards I speak of, see The World Wide Web Consortium and Wikipedia's own documentation on the subject.
Andreas Blixt 09:53, 11 October 2006 (EDT)
You have a point. But I think we'd need to fiddle with the CSS for a bit; the reason people use H1 and H2 (= and ==) is likely because they're big and have underlines, which H3 and below do not have. It's possible that we should push the sizes down the stack, so to speak, so that H2 and H3 have underlines.   --Mikk (T) 10:02, 11 October 2006 (EDT)
As Mikk said you have a point, and its not that I dont respect it (Im 100% for normalization), but you have to face the fact that changing the headers of every single article in the wiki is not realistic, nor humanly possible. At least not in my opinion. Else how could you change it? --Adys 10:12, 11 October 2006 (EDT)
Someone already did change them from == Header == to = Header = (I know this because I was here a very long time ago), so of course it's humanly possible. The most important thing, really, is to let people know more specifically how these kind of things should be formatted, preventing the pile of incorrectly formatted articles to grow. And then if half of the active users correct one article per week, all articles will end up correct sooner or later. If someone could bother to make a script, it could all be changed in a matter of minutes.
And to what Mikk said about formatting; look at Wikipedia, the icon of all wikis. It follows the standards I speak of very strictly. It looks good, and it works perfectly.
Andreas Blixt 10:22, 11 October 2006 (EDT)
If it was a so long time ago you were there, I guess there were less than 40 000 pages on the wiki ;)
However, right now and as it is, Id rather change straight in the code = Header 1 = to call a Header 2 if you want to respect the standards. Should the manual editing would be even possible at this point, it would take too much time to bother with it. Straight edit is better, imo :) --Adys 10:31, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

Re-stubbed?

Just curious as to why you restubbed Blood Guard's Chain Gauntlets and Champion's Chain Headguard? You said the info is not enough but I'm trying to figure out what other info there needs to be? The items stats are there, it says that its part of a armor set that's no longer available and what the replacement set is. What other kinds of information do you think is needed? - ClydeJr 01:54, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

Hey :) Most infos are way off anyways, and need to be checked. It also doesnt follow the regular Boilerplate and has a horrible pagemaking for high resolution computers. Don't worry too much eventually, I will get working on the whole PvP T1 and T2 both deprecated and new one when Im done with the icons. --Adys 06:27, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

Cleanup Tags

I can't really see what is wrong with the pages you have tagged for cleanup, I have read through them and they don't look that bad at all, what made you tag them, so I can see what to change? --Bull3t 12:05, 1 November 2006 (EST)

Adys? Can you please let people know what needs to be done to the pages you have tagged as cleanup? It doesn't help if you just tag them without a description of somesort, because I can't see what is wrong with them... --Bull3t 11:06, 2 November 2006 (EST)
I answered on your talk page earlier today :) --Adys 13:57, 2 November 2006 (EST)
Hmm, okay, thanks I will keep Boilerplates in mind. --Bull3t 14:50, 2 November 2006 (EST)

Notes

I think the biggest issue is that notes is for gameplay suggestions, than lore. If anything lore could be put at the very end its own heading, lore, history, or something like that outside of the "notes section.Baggins 22:40, 15 November 2006 (EST)

Removing pictures

A quick note - I notice you remove the pics from item pages when updating them - I don't think there's any need tbh. Only in cases where the pic is awful would I get rid of it, just because many people like to see what it'll look like :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 21:59, 4 November 2006 (EST)

Aye I generally do it when the pic is horrible, too dark or too big. I also do it for PNGs since their thumb screws up. --Adys 03:45, 5 November 2006 (EST)

Dungeons Template Sort

Did we not want to sort the dungeons template in the category? I put back the pagename sort key.--Hobinheim 23:57, 17 November 2006 (EST)

Hm putted it that way for practical use, since its the master instance. I'd leave the first sorting, but thats only me. --Adys 05:32, 18 November 2006 (EST)

Icon Help/Suggestion

I'm far from being done helping with the icons, by the way ;) Most of my Wiki time is at work now and they've been real strict on downloads, so the flurry of uploading/downloading icons would be an issue, and I also don't have my WoW files here to pull crisp .PNGs from. I'll help if I can, but you're doing a kick ass job as it is. I'm already looking at ways to approach the keywords/category listings...

Also, one suggestion. Maybe we should encourage/move discussions on icons to the WoWWiki_talk:WoW_Icons page as we have a few different people working on the project. I think it'd be good to have one central place to hammer out questions/issues that come up, rather than multiple User talk pages. Whatcha think? --Tusva 09:05, 30 October 2006 (EST)

I get most of the PNG files from Allakhazam, I use my own mpqs very rarely. I also changed the Raw List to make it a numbered list with wiki links (note that some of them are broken, or some like Image:Trade_Leatherworking.png should be named Image:Trade_LeatherWorking.png). As for the discussions, I agree, and I'll do it in a min :) --Adys 09:42, 30 October 2006 (EST)
Aye, even from Allakhazam, all the up/downloading is an issue here at work. More than happy to help any other way that I can. Numbered list looks good, helps to see what needs changing. By jove, 2,684 icons is a lot :D --Tusva 09:47, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Edit Tab

I see that you edited the {{edittab}} template to say "edit this page" instead of just "edit" I just wanted to let you know that I had previously made another template; {{editpagetab}} which is now exactly the same as the {{edittab}} as of your change, should we get rid of {{editpagetab}} now, or revert {{edittab}}? ~Bull3t (talk · contr · curr · wro · blog) // 15:26, 21 November 2006 (EST)

<scratches head> Hm what is the exact use of {{editpagetab}} :-p
Meh, don't know. Just thought people might want to use "edit this page" or "edit" in different situations. ~Bull3t (talk · contr · curr · wro · blog) // 08:57, 22 November 2006 (EST)
But if they are both the same what's exactly the point? :-P Hm actually got an idea... brb --Adys 13:03, 22 November 2006 (EST)
Here it is, better than having 10 different ones :-P {{Texttab}} --Adys 13:06, 22 November 2006 (EST)
Liking the idea, but I think it is a little late to delete the others now, unless you want to go around and change every single page that uses {{edittab}} to {{texttab|edit this page}} and every other tab... ~Bull3t (talk · contr · curr · wro · blog) // 13:20, 22 November 2006 (EST)
Aye agree, was just to replace your still Unlinked template :) I'll sdmark it since its a clone, hope you dont mind --Adys 13:23, 22 November 2006 (EST)
Nope, don't mind, no point in it now, as it has been replaced, thanks. ~Bull3t (talk · contr · curr · wro · blog) // 14:07, 22 November 2006 (EST)

bunch of shields that are still in jpg format

There are a bunch of shields that are still in jpg format

http://www.wowwiki.com/Category:WoW_Icons:_Inventory_Shield

Allow me to respond ;) If you see the Full Icon List, Adys (and myself when I can help) are working our way down the list converting. Currently on Potions, and will be hitting Shields soon. --Tusva 18:15, 21 November 2006 (EST)

S(a/o)ridormi

I'll leave it for now, since there's no info aside from what the NPC does, but read the article; Saridormi is female, and if the Soridormi turns out to be male, that's a different dragon.--Ragestorm 09:54, 23 November 2006 (EST)

Effect Template

Uhm... What have you done to it and how are we supposed to use it? Because I am slightly confused as to what the changes are, etc.. ~Bull3t (talk · contr · curr · wro · blog) // 14:25, 30 November 2006 (EST)

Too me it looks like it is the spell number from Allakhazam, but some of them are not added (check Skullforge Reaver, Skullforge Brand and Shortsword of Vengeance, Holy Smite), which makes it annoying because you cannot manually type it. ~Bull3t (talk · contr · curr · wro · blog) // 14:44, 30 November 2006 (EST)
Yes you will actually have to add it if you want to make it look normal. If you don't really have the time or anything, just use the old system. --Adys 14:56, 30 November 2006 (EST)
