RE: Redirects
First, vanity redirects are against WoWWiki policies and will get deleted. Just because the quest you're looking for don't immediately show up in the quest results doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Second, the quest name is supposed to be capitalized, and making unnecessary redirects just because you can't find it right away doesn't justify it. If we WoWWikians were to do that to every single page, it would just be a massive load of unnecessary redirects just because lazy people like you can't manage to figure out how to use the search tool properly.
And for your information, those redirect policies doesn't say anything that applies to the WoWWiki quest namespace pages, does it? So bringing up those arguments only makes you look like a fool.--gOurra[T҂C] 18:34, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm a new user on this website and am not very impressed by the negative reception given to my first edits. There's no need to call me "lazy" or "a fool", and your general tone is rather negative.
Could you please show me exactly where in the deletion policy your points are backed up? The page says regarding deletes "Please use discretion when doing this as it is a direct violation of the spirit of a wiki if not the policy of this wiki - it destroys the atmosphere of trust and collaboration."
Also, please don't bite me!

Seeing your argument about the deletion policy, you might find the "...and has no need to be redirected" part. Furthermore reading the redirect page, I do not find any of your reasons to be valid under the purposes of a redirect. May you point out the reason to why you think the redirects are necessary, other than that you can't use the search tool properly?--gOurra[T҂C] 19:19, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- The full clause of that sentence is "...is deprecated by a new page and has no need to be redirected" which does not apply in this case.
My reasons (from the purposes of a redirect page) are:
- Finding a page
- Conveniently going to a page
On this page, the "Misspellings" and "Other spellings, other punctuation" part of the table illustrates a couple of precedents for what I'm doing. Wikipedia has thousands of redirects like these to allow for typos.
I'm sure I'm not the only "lazy" user of this site, and although "creating too many redirects can clutter up the search results page, which can hinder users" (Help:Redirect#How_do_I_create_a_redirect.3F), which I think is your point, I believe more good than harm is caused.

- You're points are well made, but we do have policies against redirects to personal page, character pages, and guild pages. We don't have a strict policy against redirects to quest names, but having an arbitrary number of redirects based on the multiple variations of quest names is not desirable, so we have made a specific naming policy for quests.
- Also, using Wikipedia as a defense does not work. There are many things wrong with Wikipedia that they perpetuate. They do not have an unrestrained number of redirects that would be suggested by some of the redirects you've made. Wikipedia also deletes cross namespace redirects.
- It's okay to continue to make redirects, but try to make sure that they exist for common misspellings, not just you happen to do. Search is there for a reason and works just as good as typing stuff after http://www.wowwwiki.com/.
- Lastly, Help is not policy so it doesn't really hold much weight, especially when much of the help is general to MediaWiki wikis and not specific to WoWWiki. --

- OK, thanks for that comprehensive explanation; I'll take this advice on board when I edit in future.
- The reason I got so defensive was because my pages were tagged for speedy deletion with the explanation "What's the point?", instead of a proper explanation (as you and Coobra gave); I then received some comments (Gourra, above) which I felt to be unnecessarily patronising in tone and which didn't resolve the issue. I'm glad to see that one of my redirects (Sweet amber) was saved, though! This will be my last post on the subject.Dwarfish 18:47, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- If you see a {{speedydelete}} or {{sd}} tag on a page that you disagree with, feel free to remove it and change it to {{delete}} with a counter-argument on the talk page. Also, you can also remove the {{speedydelete}} or {{sd}} tags with and edit summary like, "Insufficient speedy delete explanation", if that seems appropriate. We try to discourage overzealous deletion, but with a wiki as big as WoWWiki, sometimes the urge is strong to remove what seems like cruft at first glance. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 3:41 PM PST 15 Apr 2008

Yea, I know how it is to be new, and I don't think Gourra meant to come off harsh it is hard to express what you mean and how you mean it through the internet after all.
