Hey, I was going through some of the old forums and I have a question. I saw that nearly all of the admins left before, and I was wondering what made you stay. It's not that sensitive and I've been asked this question a few times before. The summary answer is that I wasn't that friendly with alot of the main admins that led the charge to go to what became Wowpedia and I thought WoWWiki still had some life in it. I also work on a bunch of other Wikia wikis, so it would be kind of strange to ignore WoWWiki. Also, I have met Raylan13 and he's a really good person. He really does alot more work than I do and he would kind of be alone at WoWWiki, if I left. --

Deleting

Those generically named screenshots bug me too, but I know most people never read the policy pages. Also, until Wikia says, "WoWWiki is taking up too much hard drive space!" I'm not too worried about user images as long as they are relevant to Warcraft. I go through about once a month and try to delete the really worthless user images, but sometimes I let unused ones stay for a long time after they probably should have been deleted. --

Yes, but I almost never go there. I don't think Wikia has an official IRC site anymore (hence w:Help:IRC), but Wikia users still hang out at freenode. --

Username

Can you please give me some username ideas? I believe myself to be... an above average editor, but I can't come up with a username that will stick/a username that really like. It seems that everyone else has all of the cool and unique usernames, to me at least. Runescape

Mentioning is not necessarily advertising. User talk pages sometimes can range off-topic. User subpages can be used for opp-topic things if they are like lists or sandboxes. A WoWWiki:Sandbox pages can be used, because they are used with the knowledge that anything in them can be wiped out. Other than that I can't think of anything.

The key issue is external linking and obvious, outright advertising (a full sentence or more). A few words here and there does little harm. Wowpedia.org is basically a 90% copy of WoWWiki and they still only have half or less the traffic rating than us. They are gaining, however. --

I don't think the Battle.net and WoW Insider links are the main reason Wowpedia is gaining on WoWWiki, because they had that early on. Wowpedia definitely has better boss and instance pages than WoWWiki at this point and I think that is driving most of their growth. --

Item boilerplate

Hey Fandyllic, I was wondering if there was any way to change the template of the item boilerplate. Blizzard changed the style of their tooltips as I am sure you know, and I was wondering if it would be simple for us to do the same. Thanks. Mega Bloks

ya, i'm going to add the other pages and pictures in sometime soon, should the other figures in the 5 Part Mega Bloks WoW Stopmotion have pages? They are mostly Ragerock without the torso clothes and different armor, black hair blood elf DK, and some others. --RaceLord (talk)

Unless a figure is uniquely identified, I wouldn't make a separate page for it. If you see a unique figure that appears to be based of an existing one, but the figure doesn't have a name, just put that info in a "Notes" section of the figure it resembles. You could make a single page for Unidentified Mega Bloks figures, I suppose and throw all the info there. --

Admin announcement

I have to admit, i'm very excited . When you say promote feedback, what do you mean exactly? I am quite friendly and personable so I am planning on doing my best to welcome and promote users to edit and ask questions. Don't go crazy.

...and don't feel pressure to to do alot right away. Quality edits trump quantity most of the time. If you focus on doing stuff that helps as many other users as possible, that is a good guideline.

How do you check a user's IP? I also blocked a user that was only posting spam and an Elink on their user page, yet when I look at the block log, it shows something about an Autoblock that I don't see anywhere else. What is this?

Name change

Hey Fandyllic I have a question; how does user name changing work exactly? Would the new user name have the same edit count and information as the old one? I only ask because I am a little annoyed at using my real name with my user name. I'd prefer it if I could use something that would be a little more anonymous. I know that you have this power, being a bureaucrat, but I do not know how difficult this would be to accomplish. If it is a hassle than don't worry about it. I've heard the rename tool might be broken recently, but I believe it usually works pretty seamlessly. Do you want to hold off on the admin promotion until you have a name change? You may want to use Special:Contact/rename-account to do it and maybe they'll tell you it is currently broken. --

Ahh okay. The block list is different from the block log. What you are seeing is probably an attempt by someone with the same IP as the blocked user trying to edit or create an account. You could ask at Special:Contact/general to get the definitive answer or maybe someone at VSTF wiki knows. --

Heh, no. Sargeras is the leader of the Burning Legion over all. He has demon lords that are local leaders. Illidan is the leader of the blood elves in Outland, I believe. Illidan made a deal with the Burning Legion to supply demonic magic to his followers and for power against his enemies. But my lore knowledge is not super, either. MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation

Hey, I was going through the admin tools, and I looked into the MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation section, and noticed that there are a few too many links on two of the menus. So I took the liberty of removing the IRC channel link, as nobody uses it anymore, as well as the WoW interface info link, I'll add that to the main page. Actually, it seems that Wikia is determined not to let me publish the changes. Apparently, our current layout is already too large; According to Wikia we are only allowed up to 4 level 1 links, yet we have 5. I can only assume that this is a result of a policy that came into place after we had already created the navigation menus. I await your response

I have always been fascinated by them and figured the name was both fitting and amusing. I was hoping somebody would recognize it. Mounts

I like having all the individual mounts listed because then you can see the tooltip for them. With the group link you have to go to another page. What do you think is a good reason to keep group links? --

I agree that it looks nicer with the individual mounts listed, yet if you look at the faction reward section you will see that the Netherwing mounts are grouped, as well as every single racial mount is grouped as well. If we were to start listing every mount, the racial mount section would be incredibly long, yet if we left it as it is then there is a lack of consistency. I figured that the grouping saved space and was more efficient. In my opinion, the page is already a bit on the large side. Perhaps we could remove some of the content that is no longer relevant, or we could split the page into two smaller and more specific pages?

(2) I like the idea of the "best of both worlds". The changes to the table with the mounts grouped, and then a collapsible component looks great. It was mostly an experiment, but I'm glad you like it. {{Tooltip/Mists}} now also supports upgradelevel= to add the appropriate category for upgradeable items. It makes me think we should make the tooltip automatically add categories, but I'm holding off until I figure out this mode= thing. --

Talbuk

Apparently, whoever made the Talbuk page decided to make a separate page for horde and alliance For Every Talbuk. I have to go to work very shorty, but I shall fix this once I return. Well, technically the Alliance and Horde versions have different item IDs. You could make a disambig page for each type with the same name and make a tooltip that shows for both factions. I will do an example for [Reins of the Cobalt Riding Talbuk]. --

Ok, I will look at it once I finish work. Oh, and a slightly off-topic question regarding naming: Should the second word in the mount name be capitalized on the page? I noticed that warhorse wasn't capitalized for Skeletal warhorse mounts and same with raptor in Swift raptor mounts. For the Wind Rider one though, the Rider is capitalized. Sorry for being so anal, but I have a bit of a compulsion to make things consistent.

Hey Fandyllic, rather than ask you to do it I took the liberty of changing the font colour of the upgrade level and ilvl parameters. They now match the WoWhead colours. It's your template so I was hesitant to alter anything, but I would appreciate your opinion on the changes I made.

There seems to be an edit war on Server:Bleeding Hollow US between three or four users regarding the 'players to avoid' and 'notable players' sections. This is not WoWWiki specific. I would complain via Special:Contact/feedback.

In the mean time, add the following to your Special:MyPage/wikia.js:

Reformatting mount page

How would you feel about me reformatting the layout slightly for the mounts page? I was thinking about grouping the Outside of Game mounts into a single table that would list the method of obtaining them. I would also like to remove some of the content that is long out-of-date such as the scaling mounts and the mount speed sections. I know we have the button here under the log in menu. I've never used it, but I've been asked if it ever actually did work. I reduced the number of active polls to one on the main page, since space seems to becoming somewhat of an issue. I was curious as to how you felt about the Wiki Stats section on the main page. It seems to be a bit redundant, as the number of pages is also found at the top, and the available languages can be chosen from the bottom as well. What are your thoughts on the matter? The Wikistats area isn't very big, but the stats part is mostly useless. The useful part are the links to other language wikis. You could nuke the Wikistats area and move the other language links to "Sister sites", but only after you review the links. --

Heya - saw that the Help:Chatadmin page was blank, so I went ahead and did some digging to fill it out. Hopefully it makes some sense. i just took a look at what you changed so far on these guides, and i really appreciate what you are doing for me.

you see, after typing all of these guides, one after another, zone after zone, while looking up zone maps on google for directions, and continent maps to see every adjacent zone, i didn't care for capitalisation and grammar anymore. i was just happy enough that the guides were finally complete after over 35 hours. and i don't mind this. i really appreciate it!
