Guild:The Dominion Of Elites (Darkmoon Faire EU)

I apologise. I was merely trying to protect the Dominion of Elites wiki, and also the reputation of my own guild 'Fracture'. I won't respond to this person again, although if they continue to change the TDOE wiki, I would desperately hope that they would be blocked.

Apologies again. —This unsigned comment is by Truthteller 12 (talkcontribs) 15:23, January 5, 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I'm working with Maloya to sort this out. Most likely Truthbearer will be blocked. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5 Jan 2012 4:27 PM Pacific

Icons

Hey there, i just want to mention that there moight be a mix up with the icon images of the "Avatar of Vengeance" and the "Spirit of Vengeance" i will try and add the proper spirit of vengeance soon Sclera1 (talk) 06:54, January 17, 2012 (UTC)

actually, i should have said it more clearer, its just that the Avatar of vengeance icon has been wrongly named as the Spirit of vengeance. Sclera1 (talk) 06:57, January 17, 2012 (UTC)

Mainpage ad

Hi Fandyllic! I'm Mark, from Wikia's Community Development Team (former Content Production Team). As you probably know, Wikia has been running a swag giveaway for almost a week now, and so far we only got 20 comments.

We think the main reason behind this is that we aren't advertising it properly. Joe is designing a spotlight for the giveway right now, but we'd also like to advertise it on the main page using an image.

Naturally we won't add any ads without your permission - so what do you think? We'd love it if you'd allow us to put the image on the mainpage till the 24th, when the giveaway is over. Leave me a message on my talk page. Cheers, and thanks for all your hard work on the wiki, by the way :). Mark@Wikia (talk) 18:25, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

shoudn't you change the WoWWiki Logo to the current event one, and if you want to leave the Stop thing there too --RaceLord (talk) 07:35, January 22, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. Normally we leave msgs on people's talk pages and then when they contact us we give them our email so they can contact us. --Nathan Blonkenfeld 01:13, January 26, 2012 (UTC)

Bureaucrat bar

Hi Fandyllic. Greetings from a fellow bureaucrat on the Fallout wiki. I've just been promoted to one and now I noticed you have a bureaucrat bar on your userpage. I still have an admin bar and I'd like that swap it with a bureaucrat one. Can you tell me how to change it? Jspoelstra

It has to be done with java-script or something of that nature. When you 1st load the page it just shows "Administrator" and then a few seconds later shows 3 tags "Bureacrat" "Administrator" and "Crazy Person".
"Crazy Person" definitely is not a normal, Wikia, admin tag, not to mention my tags say "Admin" not "Administrator" on the wiki I am an admin.

Heh, found it! In the MediaWiki:Wikia.js file there is this section

Q u o t e:

// Additional UserRights Icons in profile mastheads
importScript('MediaWiki:Wikia.js/userRightsIcons.js');
// END Additional UserRights Icons in profile mastheads

which calls on this sub page: MediaWiki:Wikia.js/userRightsIcons.js, which has the code to change your Admin tags.

Width of the wiki pages

Why is the width of this wiki wider than most other wikis, because it doesn't really work well on a lower resolution and/or normal monitor? Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion (talk) 20:06, March 14, 2012 (UTC)

Lower resolution is not a "normal" monitor (what do you consider "normal" and how can you show that it is normal?). This wiki is wider because it often has table content that won't fit in the standard narrower Wikia-wiki, non-sidebar, content width. Also, Wikia chose to force a fixed width on wikis, so it couldn't be adjusted dynamically. Lastly, it's because unlike most Wikia wikis, WoWWiki makes Wikia alot of money AND has a significant competitor, Wowpedia. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 14 Mar 2012 12:20 PM Pacific
By normal, I mean an old style square monitor that shouldn't use a higher resolution. Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion (talk) 20:54, March 14, 2012 (UTC)
Saying "old-style square monitor" doesn't tell me anything. What pixel width and height? What diagonal dimension? Most modern browsers have a zoom out feature, maybe that will help you. Wikia and WoWWiki can't standardize everything for old technology. Also, I would never optimize for a netbook screen.
If you have looked at the average low-end monitor you can buy, the average 17" desktop LCD is 1280 x 1024 and the average 14" laptop screen is 1366 x 768. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 14 Mar 2012 2:19 PM Pacific
Nevermind, I was just curious. Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion (talk) 02:17, March 15, 2012 (UTC)

Vandal Alert

Some user named Dime63 has been adding some really bad pictures to the site recently, and there is no option to revert his edits on the "History" page. Would you mind looking into this? Thank you. Zmario 21:15, March 24, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. I was also wondering, are you in the Mists of Pandaria beta? Zmario 21:22, March 24, 2012 (UTC)
Sadly no. I've been adding stuff based on Wowhead. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 24 Mar 2012 1:23 PM Pacific

(>_<)> You could at least find out what Dime63 purpose was before blocking his/her account for uploading a DNP image. Most prominently it seem like a heavy handed tactic to imposes a first time offended. Are you a no second chances kind of person? What ever you are your bloody annoying! Grrrrrrr (* ̄m ̄) I didn't even get a chance to message the user to find out why he or she uploaded the image and who it was off.

_| ̄|O Now I will never find out. (;_;)

What purpose could it have had that wasn't block worthy? Also, the image wasn't of a person (or a creature or zone or anything remotely related to Blizzard Entertainment or Warcraft), which just shows that you are defending someone for something you don't even know about. Ask Zmario what it was.
From working on WoWWiki for over 7 years, people who vandalize in certain ways never turn out to be valuable contributors. Perhaps you can prove me wrong, but I doubt it. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 25 Mar 2012 9:30 AM Pacific

Mists stuff

Ok, thank you for clarifying that, I was unsure which one to use because at this point these items are all canon as far as the Beta goes, so I don't want to go around claiming articles are Mists of Pandaria, because this could change in a heartbeat.

And no, I am not in Beta, however it would be a major help for this Wiki if more members had access. I feel kind of wrong for just taking Wowhead information and transferring it here, but as far as I can tell, Raylan13 is the only member who has access to the beta. There may be others, perhaps, that have been included into the beta, that have not added their name to the list. I probably will not be recieving an invite, as they already have their hands filled with the Annual Pass members getting their "guarenteed" beta access, I'm suprised people who opt-in even get a spot! Zmario 20:33, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

If stuff appears in the Beta it is Mists of Pandaria stuff until they change it. It's pretty clear that the icons are not finalized for many things, but I don't expect tons of stuff to change in the Beta to release. If it changes, we'll just tag it {{Removedfrombeta}}.
Yeah, with the Annual Pass thing, you have to wonder what the criteria to get in the beta would be. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 26 Mar 2012 2:13 PM Pacific

Backgrounds

Left you a message elsewhere, but wanted to throw it here, too. I was mucking around with some background ideas for MoP and came up with this one:

http://www.wowwiki.com/File:MoPBackground.jpg

I can make others that we can choose from if this fits, and tweak it a bit if needed. Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 16:58, April 3, 2012 (UTC)

Updated the old file and added a new one. Both are lighter. Might make more if I see some good images to toy around with, but now back to testing! Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 04:28, April 4, 2012 (UTC)

Latvian WoWWiki

As Latvian WoWWiki is unused I would want to create new, but I can not change the main page and add the new wiki, it's URL is lvwow.wikia.com. Could you do that? Though I created wiki on my second Wikia account. —This unsigned comment is by Ri4Ri4y (talkcontribs) 15:23, April 8, 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I am currently admin and creator of lvwow.wikia.com so I don't need to adopt it. It's currently in stage of creation, though it has more information than lv.wow.wikia.com. My request was to add lv.wow.wikia.com on the main page to the other-languaged wikis instead of lv.wow.wikia.com. You can do it later (as it's currently too new), but I hope you'll do that. —This unsigned comment is by Ri4Ri4y (talkcontribs) 14:13, April 8, 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I was just exploring places and found it, and saw there wasn't any info on here about it.. Sadly didn't decide to take pictures until after the 'sprite' things left. Who'dathunk they'd leave, anyways... Aetropos (talk) 12:39, April 11, 2012 (UTC)

It's a bit of an in-joke..

'Prince' is a term sometimes used in yuri mangas/animes for the more 'dashing' and chivalrous girls, who take on the role of the typical 'Prince Charming'. I love to think of meself as dashing and chivalrous and such, so I've self labelled as one. Aetropos (talk) 14:50, April 13, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

Greetings! You put a welcome message on my Talk page after I made an edit on the Archaeology rewards page (thank you).

Now I noticed that your welcome notice says "Thanks for your edit to the "Explorers' League" page". Now that's confusing, I didn't go anywhere near that page! So at first it looked to me like this was just a manual error.

But look -- 2,5 years ago, I did in fact make an edit on the Explorers' League page. I didn't even remember I had made an edit on this wiki before.

I know, it's just a detail, but perhaps the first edit within the past 30 days should be selected or something, for that welcome message :) just in case someone like me passes by again.

Sygmoral (talk) 18:12, April 15, 2012 (UTC)

Scepter holders

Hey, can you try and verify for me who the real scepter holder is for Thunderlord US? Some say Turbonator (hunter) some say Nferno (priest). I can find no evidence to support either. One of our staff members noticed WoWWiki is still using the old Wikia logo in a few places - Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Wikia.png. Just a heads up if you want to go ahead and update it to match the logo change. --daNASCAT WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 22:15, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I'll hunt down any old logos I can find and update them. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 30 Apr 2012 3:00 PM Pacific
Well it's not mandatory that you switch and on our end, we're still doing a very slow conversion over (hence why my signature still has the old logo). Just thought it was something you might like pointed out is all (though it's worth a few giggles about the signature point). --daNASCAT WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 23:34, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
Better to do it sooner than later. WoWWiki doesn't have as many occurrences as various Wikia wikis, so it should be easy. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 30 Apr 2012 3:37 PM Pacific

Issue with a user

Hello there, Fandyllic.

If we notice an issue with a user and their uploads, how do we go about the process of reporting them? I'm not seeing buttons or links on the pages linking to their profile, nor am I seeing a method of contacting you that wouldn't be highly public and thus delicious flamebait for the trolls.

Thanks very much; please contact me with the email associated with my account. If necessary, I can post it for you, too. User:Geracht (talk) 4:52 am, May 7th, 2012 -- New edit for 5:14pm -- Ah. Look at that.

Hunters and pets

Hi. So I don't know if you understand from hunters but I want to ask you something. I found the taming the beast quest when I was 150 lvl. I tame my bear but i only make her 152 lvl. I just cant call her without catch all the mobs in the level zone. Now I am almost 255 lvl (252) and my bear is still on the same lvl. Which AddOn Studio?

How is this different from: http://addonstudio.codeplex.com/? --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 16 Aug 2012 10:46 PM Pacific

Most of the info is in What's Changed section. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 16 Aug 2012 10:53 PM Pacific

Como? --Celess (talk) 07:49, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

The one codeplex is differnt, its been abondoned for about 3-4 years. There is an explanation on the 2010 page. I moved the images to demo page, were used in guide http://addonstudio.codeplex.com/discussions/254485 and the complementary one on wiki here was never finished. --Celess (talk) 07:51, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

The problem is the AddOn Studio page never really said that it was abandoned, but the AddOn Studio 2010 page reads as if it does. This is confusing. Also, I personally would be nervous about downloading a zip file from an effectively random place for a non-commercial product without being able to see any of the source code. Talk about a trojan/virus vector. I can't really use it anyway, since my primary machine is a Mac, so it's mostly a mystery to me. I could theoretically try it on my work machine, but like I said, it could just be a trojan (no offense). --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 17 Aug 2012 10:13 AM Pacific

So could any of the other numerous editors which dont offer their source. If you read the codeplex, they say they abondonded the project and were goign to do a Lua Studio instead, whihc was abandoned too. It wasnt my place to change their Wiki Page, I only cleaned it up yesterday so it didnt have to be a stub and to help you in being more clear. I have conversed with the project coordinator there about this, who is also a manager at MS, maybe 1.5-2 years ago now. He doesnt play WoW anymore, and the other offshore teams are doing other things now. I'd be happy to tell you more in a differnt forum. The 2010 page read the way it did because it wasnt my place to speak on his behalf publically, and it read in a way that said the public status which was that thier hadnt been any updates for years. Look at the 2010 history between the 13th and the 16th where I had just removed: "The bulk of official releases of the original inception have been nearly zero over the last few years, and this tool is deserving of new..." as its been so long any of the new users wouldnt understand and this is all new to them. The support host i was using died sometime in the last few days and I'm rolling mhy own as we squeak, there was a good bit of history there and there are tons of people using this. I may have lost my support history :( --Celess (talk) 19:40, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

I will try to chat with you when I get the chance, but I made the edits I did trying to take the perspective of some who is seeing info about AddOn Studio and AddOn Studio 2010 for the first time. I can totally see your perspective, but sometimes when you know too much about something, you forget what other people know and don't know.
I understand the reasons for not exposing source code, but I'm just saying that downloading ZIPs makes alot of people nervous. One way you could calm people's fears is just to potst something like a file list of the contents of the ZIP in a subpage like AddOn Studio 2010/aswow-3.0.20526.0_ZIP_file_list and link to it. Also, while to you "AsWoW" and aswow-3.0.20526.0.zip means AddOn Studio 2010, it would help if it were named the same thing, aka "AddOnStudio2010" and aswow2010-3.0.20526.0.zip. This helps for both clarity and consistency.
FYI, I worked at Microsoft for 7 years and was a manager. Telling me someone was an MS manager only reminds me that MS isn't a sparkling example of how to treat abandoned projects, so it doesn't surprise me that the abandonment wasn't handled that well or clearly.
I know you're trying to do a good job, so I hope my actions haven't made you think I don't fully support your efforts. I'm just looking at it more as a wiki admin editor. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 17 Aug 2012 12:20 PM Pacific

I don't think you can make generalizations about someone based on where they worked or who they worked with on its own, without any other context. Similarly I disagree with your asertions and charecterization about the status and level of resposibility of the previous versions, its conjecture and I'd be happy to discuss that with you in another forum. I think that a manifest would be redundant as zip files have an implicit manifest. I dont think that how the distribution file is named is necessarily something where you only consider one factor, and its not within the scope of Wiki discussions. I would point out however that its traditional, and I belive with good reason, to not mark release files with marketing names such as '2010'. Furthermore this was stated as a 'continuation' and there is no real disambiguation issue; there well may be a 2012 based on IsoShell 2012 or some other completley diferent marketing nomenclature. I would argue that a zip file is more transparent than an installer in that you can look at whats in it before you commit to running anything, however these discusssions are out of scope. The reasons and implications of the packaging method were detailed in in great detail on the main, documenation and changes pages. If you have a legitimate security concern I would of course like to hear it. As far as product history and disambiguation are concerned, after 3-4 years I think its probably time to call a spade a spade, and mark these things appropriately. And at some point the influx of people who where familiar with similarly named, but defunct, product generation is dimenishingly and extremely small and does a disservice to others to confuse the issue, and at some point is not my burdon to bare. I think I have done my diligence probalby well beyond what most would have cared to do. I placed this page here well over a year ago as a service to the community, and would argue that the product it self was done in the same light. --Celess (talk) 04:50, August 18, 2012 (UTC)

Unless you worked at Microsoft you would know whether it was a generalization or not. Also, if something is downloadable from WoWWiki, I hardly think its format is out-of-scope. A zip is only more transparent after you unpack it. I'm also perfectly willing to rename AddOn Studio to something like AddOn Studio (old) and make AddOn Studio 2010 just "AddOn Studio". I never denied the original was abandoned, it just didn't have my attention until recently. Those things aside, if you want to discuss this further, you can send me an e-mail. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 18 Aug 2012 10:42 AM Pacific

You dont have to unpack a zip file to see whats inside it, and its not downloadable from WoWWiki. Its a link to the download. Thats not your domain. I'm not sure what the issue is here. Let me hit this a different way, I am trying to not make a seperate landing page so that people come here, for the benefit of this site and the community. Also, the 2005 and 2008 versions are older. There is nothing defunct about the term AddOn Studio as refereing to a name of products. I still think its more helpful to everyone to place the pages here, eventhough this takes a lot of extra time. --Celess (talk) 19:00, August 18, 2012 (UTC)

This discussion is not publically constructive and makes unsubstanciated quality references which really arnt helpful. It will be in the history. Its this or you get the very long angry email. :) —This unsigned comment is by Celess22 (talkcontribs) 19:29, August 18, 2012‎. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

You should think far more carefully about what you say in someone else's talk page. I will not let you delete stuff because you disagree with some of it. Please send me an angry e-mail instead. I stand by everything I said. If you ask around, I don't say things lightly. If this pisses you off and you decide to stop contributing at WoWWiki, I can't stop you. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 18 Aug 2012 7:54 PM Pacific

I dont mind this being seen and is not a problem, which is what I think you were eluding to: "This discussion is not publically constructive and makes unsubstanciated quality references which really arnt helpful. It will be in the history. Its this or you get the very long angry email. :) "

If you want me to stop contributing, since you mentioned that and not I, im happy to do so. I feel that its not warrented to imply or ellude to someone elses work being a trojan or raise other unsubstanciated claims with no real understanding or cause. If you stand by that and are speaking as the admin, i think that refects poorly. I do not think this is constructive, or helpful. This realy is about the "other" people these efforts are for, and any contributing is done for that and not one person, regurdless of of who they are. --Celess (talk) 04:05, August 19, 2012 (UTC)

I am not a lawyer, but you need to understand some of what I belive that I understand about this... Now that this is "archived", the reason I "moved it to history" is because its libel, as in you were increasing risk for you and Wikia. Normally when someone tells you and you keep going, and refuse to mitigate what they are claiming, you are increasing risk. If you then do something as stupid as to say "I stand by everything I said" or "I don't say things lightly" or "if this pisses you off", rather than say "my comments we not meant to hurt and i am not saying this is true for you" or even "im sorry", then that really really does not help. When I moved it, your tone did not change and and kept it up with vengence; the act of me removing it to history is me taking an action to mitigate on my behalf, when you moved it back and made that comment, thats taking an action that makes it clear to probably anyone your intent or knowingly or not. Legally if you make no effort to mitigate, then thats the purpose of the judge to do that for you. I'm not likely to take you to task on this, but you simply cant be doing that. Whether its here or somewhere else you increase risk for getting popped, and you harm not only Wikia and yourself, but me, all of the people in and related to the topic at hand, and all of the people who come here. The real reason on behalf of Wikia that you deal with vandalism, is not only to keep the site form being trashy an to make them money via that, but they like it because in many cases you are performing a necessary "due dilligence" action for them in removing libellous content. The fact that you have conversations about instances of removing possibly libellous content in your talk page above me trying to mitigate you doing that to another entity that I am vested in, i think would also not look good. I would not suggest you take any of this as advice by itslff, as thats not something im licesned to do, but go look for yourself or ask Wikias legal department or whatever you feel they would want you to do for your due dilligence in your role as appropriate.

-- removed suggestion to history such that its not so easily publically visible --

I just removed your newly created reference to this conversation to history from my talk page. I do not think its in your interest to continue to insist that its ok for you to promote this for the reasons stated above. The talk page blurb i jsut removed ot history was written before I wrote the above, but its really not my responsibility to bring this to your attention, its Wikias. I posted the above in good faith and in doing my part in trying to make this all better. --Celess (talk) 21:52, August 19, 2012 (UTC)
