Class page Edit

Perfect, I like it much better now too. Got the left-alignment in there, and put the horde/alliance icons each in their own column. Thanks for the help!

Sure, though if there's one suggestion I'd like to make wrt your template, I think the 'Category: <classname>' page should just be copied verbatim into the 'Also see' section of the Starting a Class template. Since the section is something of an appendix, it makes sense to just put the information there. I can't see there being that many 'Also see' topics about any class, even in the late game, that it would really overpower the rest of the page assuming this section was well maintaned and organized down the road. -- Kow

I did the "See Also" stuff before I knew anything about categories :) Your right in that there's no need to list the seperate pages - I think its best just to give a link to the category page. The beauty of that is the category pages are automatically updated as new class articles are added to the system, so the whole thing is all just automated -- Goldark 17:02, 22 Nov 2004 (EST)

Hunter Pages discussionEdit

After rethinking the subject of Talk:Hunter_Abilities_Level_8, I finally stumbled, literally, upon the answer to my dilemma. I went back into the Template Index and removed the default link reference in the Name column of the Hunter table rows... Duh-huh! Now I can link to the actual page in that column position (compile-time) and send the link anywhere I wish it to go. I should have figured this out sooner but I have been sleeping less than usual, even for me. I was really tired when I started the redirection campaign... ;)

And, I figured out how to open redirector pages. When you use them, there is the small text just underneath the {{PAGENAME}} that informs one of the redirection and the redirection source. Click on the redirector page name there and you can open that page for editing. I guess you've known this all along, or there may be a less convoluted way to go about it. Be that as it may, I couldn't get to a redirector page at all until I tried the noted methodology just a few minutes ago. -- Arath 18:57, 27 Nov 2004 (EST)

Aye, I sometimes forget about others being scattered around the world as we do these things. Isn't technology a world village making tool? Of course, I'm glad about that personally... ;). Congratulations on getting your alpha key -- you're gonna LOVE WoW, trust me. Although I only played the two weeks or so of Open Beta, it was still one of the best games I've ever played. I'm just waiting now for my retail version to get here between now and the 30th.

  • I will get this done. I thought about it a couple of hours ago but didn't know if I should take on the mnatle of making that overreaching a change before discussing it with one of the admin. Your suggestion makes perfect sense, though, and will cut down on the signal/noise ratio in the Category:Hunters, as you say. And yes, the Hunter gets many abilities so it was not overly simple to devise a methodology of displaying them in an intuitive manner.
  • Very cool. I had noticed some things being referenced that way, but didn't stop long enough to actually figure out that it was a sorting mechanism.
  • Your're talking here about the main index table on the actual Hunter Abilities page, no? If so, I don't follow your logic as there is already a level indicated as to when these abilities are earned (i.e., Hunter Abilities Level X). If you are talking about he tables on the individual Abilities pages, there already is a column for Rank. Please explain further what you're getting at here. -- Arath 08:13, 28 Nov 2004 (EST)

Category discussionEdit

I'm sure you've probably noticed: I got the Hunter Abilities linked in finally and will move and split all pages/abilities as discussed.

Concerning adding a Rank column to the Abilities Tables such as you outline: sure, I can do that; I will get that done asap. Sorry I couldn't visualize earlier what you meant. That will give us a cleaner Name column. It will also tend to make the information nicer looking (format wise) and more useful at-a-glance. -- Arath 08:52, 28 Nov 2004 (EST)

Rank column discussionEdit

That Abilities Table layout looks fine, just as you outlined in User talk:Arath. The problem I seem to be having at the moment is getting my table row templates to accept a 7th column. I was just on the Wikipedia:Help pages looking for why that would be so. If you could find time to look at the Hunter table row templates and see what the matter might be, I would appreciate it.

As soon as I get if figured out though, I will be redoing all the Abilities tables to include the Rank column. I also need, at some point, to add a Cost column, but I just haven't gotten around to looking the cost of individual training up just yet. I didn't realize when I first hired on, so to speak, that there was so much work involved in maintaining this sort of document collection. I'm up to the task, it just took me by surprise the sheer volume of pages needing to be created for each class... ;) -- Arath 09:54, 28 Nov 2004 (EST)

Generic Template feedback? Edit

After working with the generic template for a little bit, do you feel it's worth it to update all our old entries to the generic one? It really does seem to make most of it - minus the cost table stuff - easier to work with. Snorelax 08:11, 29 Nov 2004 (EST)

Yep I think it is worth it, although I don't see it as a top priority. The only thing I don't plan to change to using templates at the moment are the Rogue finishing moves, as these are a bit more complex (e.g. see Eviscerate). If you've any good ideas for that let me know. Luckily there are only a handful of them anyway. Currently going to try to get all the rogue abilities and talents finished off, which is gonna take a while. -- Goldark 08:17, 29 Nov 2004 (EST)

Class Template suggestion Edit

In addition to PvE and PvP sections, how about Solo and Group? Let Raid and Battleground stuff go into those. I'm all for doing the Druid Tactics page that way

You're absolutely right, Solo and Group tactics will vary hugely. They'll also depend on whether its PvE or PvP, so having sub-categories under both PvE and PvP for Solo,Group and Raid tactics could work well. I do think you need to keep Raids seperated out from Group as the scale is so much larger. Battleground tactics will probably not differ much from generic PvP so they can probably merge into the solo/group/raid sections, depending on the numbers involved. Give it a go, see how it looks best to you and you or others can always adapt as it builds up. I know v little about druids so look forward to seeing something :) -- Goldark 14:04, 1 Dec 2004 (EST)

I'm making an absolute MESS of the Templates page. Sorry! I collapsed all my commentage down a bit. I'm collecting opinions on the table I'm using for the mage spells vs the one used on the Single Spell Template. I don't like Snorelax's "GenericTable" Templates because it fuses the rows, and you can't call Templates within a Template, so instead of

 {{g|6}}{{s|39}} 

I have to put

 6[[image:gold.gif|gold]]&nbsp39[[image:silver.gif|silver]] 

Bleagh. All elegance introduced by a table template goes right out the window when I have to type an html escape char to make things look neat. What do you think, since you're paying attention to standardization? Uh, you can answer here or my space if you'd like. I'll check both. Regards,

Cast a spell based on target's class Edit

Heya, not here to raise a ruckus or anything. But if the "Cast a spell based on target's class" was derived from the code I posted on VN ( http://vnboards.ign.com/message.asp?topic=80080604 ), it'd be nice to get a nod in the comment. If you got it elsewhere then no biggie. Just looks a lot like my script.
