Relation to James Bond

Howling Fjord map
My God, that's so professional! Care to give a few tips on how you made it? -- Shandris talk / contribs 15:57, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- Alrighty, well first, since the real WoW map creators must use Photoshop, get Photoshop if you don't have it already.
- Next, I made a base parchment image to start off of. Since I'm sure people would love it, I'll give what I made. Image:Parchment.jpg
- Note: I was using a tablet to create this, I doubt it would look good doing this with a mouse (no pressure, etc.)
- So afterward I traced a scaled image of Image:Howling_Fjord_LayoutD.jpg to fit the map, and of course this gives locations of areas that will :probably be shown on the map. I took the brown color from a map of Nagrand (RGB: 120, 72, 24).
- For the road, I had color as (RGB): 204, 170, 50. I just took a brush and drew along where the road goes on the layout map.
- I added effects to the road: Outer Glow and Inner Glow.
- Outer Glow:
- Blend Mode = Normal
- Color (RGB) = 127, 82, 23
- Opacity = 100%
- Noise = 29%
- Spread = 0%
- Size = 6 px
- Range = 31%
- Jitter = 0% (You don't really notice a difference whether its 0 or 100 anyway)
- Inner Glow:
- Blend Mode = Normal
- Color (RGB) = 127, 82, 23
- Opacity = 100%
- Noise = 18%
- Technique = Precise
- Choke = 0%
- Size = 0 px
- Range = 86%
- Jitter = 0% (You don't really notice a difference whether its 0 or 100 anyway)
- For the mountains, I just drew them all myself.
- Icons for the buildings and so forth were taken from other maps, except of course Utgarde Keep, which personally I think I could have done a better job on.
- For the lines in the water, I just took the line tool and made about 5 lines going completely across the picture and copied and pasted a few times, until covering the entire map. From there I erased where needed be.
- For the Grizzly Hills text, first you will need Friz Quadrata TT font. For Anti-Aliasing, set it to Sharp (All text used on the maps are Sharp, in fact). Color should be (RGB): 86, 61, 35.
- Layer effects should be as followed:
- Blend Mode = Screen
- Color (RGB) = 190, 162, 88
- Opacity = 100%
- Noise = 23%
- Technique = Softer
- Spread = 0%
- Size = 3 px
- Range = 45%
- Jitter = 0% (Again, no noticeable difference)
- Font size should be 28.19 for "upper case" letters, 24.19 for "lower case".
Question
That's wicked Kanaru! =) But I still wonder - how did you make the land, and what brush tip (Illustrator?) did you use to make roads and outlines? -- Shandris talk / contribs 09:20, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- The land I copied the background layer, and used Soft Light over it with a color to make it look like land, and I just did that for all the colors there. For the brush tip I'm just using the normal brush; however, I am using a tablet so I have pressure detection. I hope that answers your question. 18:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Is it possible to do this in Photoshop Elements? Illidari 22:03, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- I actually don't know, I never tried Elements myself, so I am unfamiliar with its features. 23:02, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Then may I ask you which version of Photoshop you use and how much it cost? Illidari 23:12, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- I doubt you wanna know the answer... But except for that, he uses CS3 Extended, just like I do. -- 11:56, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

- Well you did manage to make many fansites think it was a leak till they realized it was player made. Its a really well done image and it would be cool if you could make images like that for the other 3 Design Layouts. Leviathon 21:30, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I think your maps are great as well! Who can shame those websites for being fooled?--SWM2448 22:16, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Big kudos on that HF map. I believed it was a real map for the first few seconds, and then still not sure it wasn't. Such a good timing with the other rumours as well. If you had used more direct lines for the costal wates and the cliffs, as well as used the Blizzard standard mountains they have on all their maps, I'm not sure I would have knon the difference at all =D --Leord 22:58, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- Working on making those two things look more legitimate on my Grizzly Hills map, actually. I prefer not to C&P Blizzard's mountains, it's difficult to blend most of the time and makes it look worse than hand-drawing it. 23:47, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- I might have a map template for you I had found in older blizzard maps. Need to find it first though... Pop on IRC once in a while :) User:Adys/Sig 15:50, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Nice work, only thing i'd suggest is toning down the amount of noise/diffusion in certain places, overly grainy compared to the official maps. -- Zeal (T/C) 13:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Hair/Beard praise
These are awesome! I changed from links to gallery, since unused images tend to get deleted (and yours are way too cool). Hope you don't mind. And please, stop by the IRC sometimes, there are a lot of people who want to talk to you. --OseTalkz / Contribz 19:24, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- I don't mind at all; in fact, I think it looks better. :P I shall get on IRC right now then. ...but it just so happens you're not on. :( By the way, whenever I get on no one talks, so I dunno, maybe I get on at bad times. 23:47, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Sig
Now while I'm at it, isn't there an easier way to put in my sig? I liked typing ~ ~ ~ ~ without the spaces, but that puts this huge clump of text, and typing "{User:Kanaru/Sig2}" with another {} around it is really annoying, and plus I have to type what time I saved the page and yada yada. 18:39, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- You can use ~ x5 (~~~~~)That will just do the date. I myself have a text file open that I just copy and paste {{User:Coobra/Sig3}} ~~~~~ ... I know its lazy, but I'm not typing it out everytime. {T •C ) 18:44, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

- Your sig preferences should say
{{subst:User:Kanaru/SigX}}

Maps for non-Photoshoppers?
I'm one of the unfortunates who have to rely on outdated but still reliable software (to be specific, I use Paint Shop Pro 5 - the last good one before PSP essentially became Photoshop). Is there a possibility for a PSP template of some kind, or will I have to get creative in that regard? Sincerely, Joshmaul 02:11, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know very much about PSP; it's been a very long time since I've used it and I really didn't learn about layers until I got Photoshop, thus I don't know if PSP has the function of using layers or not. Since I don't have Paint Shop Pro I can't really make a template, and even if I had it, I don't know how possible it is to actually make a good template due to layers. I suppose there would be layers in PSP though, it seems kind of essential. 05:05, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Mountains and cliffs
Can you make an easy guide to draw mountains and cliffs? ty^^--<Imagelink>Gorund_scr1.jpg<Imagelink>Gorund_tlk1.jpg<Imagelink>Gorund_cntr1.jpg 09:47, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- Like other things, all I can really say is look at it and try to copy it as exact as you can. 15:31, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
How have you learned to make maps?
No, seriously reveal how you've got so pro at making maps. Like you are not but you make maps like Blizzard programmers. Reveal how did you learned making them, what did you use? ~worldtaker
- Honestly, the way I learned how to draw everything - look at it and draw it. It takes time, patience and a hell of a lot of practice to learn. I get that question all the time with drawings I do, and that's all I can say. I've been drawing (what seems like) all my life, and drawing what you see is essential to good art I think. Steps as "how to" is really impossible, I can't really explain it. I used Photoshop CS3 Extended. 18:59, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Shading
How did you do the shading? One place is normal green and you see a lightened spot. How did you do that? ~ worldtaker
