NPA and POV Edit

WoWWiki is a young and small wiki compared to wikipedia, but if you think wikipedia policies like wikipedia:NPA or wikipedia:POV should be put in place here, then make some pages like WoWWiki:NPA or WoWWiki:POV (with associated templates, I suppose) and put them through our Policy adoption process. I'll add references to them on our WoWWiki:Editing policy article. If more people complain about those kind of issues, I may just migrate those policies over myself. --Fandyllic 9:52 AM PDT 24 Apr 2006

ThunderfuryEdit

If you look at the page the way you replaced the {{tooltipcss}} you can see it's all cropped and you just have an hard time to read the texts, I'm rather new to wowwiki so I don't know how to place it better, but if you can place it like at the top of the page so it's not next to text or in a way that it crops it, it would be good, otherwise I'll look at it later tonight and move it back where I placed it to begin with I think because the way it is now it looks terrible. -Sait 08/07/06

Frostmane server silliness Edit

I can see why you wanted to delete Server:Frostmane, but we still need to leave a page for legit uses. I'll be watching it. --Fandyllic 8:02 PM PDT 22 Apr 2006

Your bot for items Edit

You're missing the default

|width=18em

:)--Sky 15:50, 10 March 2007 (EST)
It seems that DPS isn't functioning correctly; you're bot keeps chopping off zeros in the tenths and/or hundredths place. It also seems to me that you don't have it configured for

|effect=
|elink=<effect>: {{spelllink}}

Cheers. Hope you have it running soon. :)--Sky 15:41, 11 March 2007 (EDT)

Fixed this, after alot of extra work! *shakes fist at Sky* --Kaso 09:44, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Do we need every item? Edit

I was looking at some of the stub pages created by KasoBot and I have to wonder if we really need some of these items in WoWWiki? For example: Acolyte's Shoes. I think these are the initial shoes given to level 1 priest characters. They have no abilities, no stats, nothing. I personally don't think we need items like this in the wiki. My view on what items should go in here is this:

  1. All uncommon/green items or better.
  2. Common/white items that are actually used (not just stuff to sell to a vendor). That means quest items, quest rewards, crafting ingredients, crafting products, etc.
  3. Junk/grey items should be excluded.

What do you think? P.S. Nice job on the bot! - ClydeJr 16:00, 19 March 2007 (EDT)

This is one of the things that i've been most concerned about, i'm glad to have some opinion on it, It does seem a bit inapproriate for me to go adding thousands of items that people dont actually want :>
As far as i can see there's two possible takes on this
  • Add all items for sake of completeness, WoWWiki is "dedicated to cataloging [the] Warcraft Universe"
  • Add only "useful" items like you describe.
I also am leaning slightly towards the "less is more" point of view, i mean its alot easier to add more items than it is to remove existing items, then again this also introduces a slight difficulty on my side, telling items apart has different challenges on my end of things, I mean, quest items/quest starting items, i can tell easily, but crafting ingredients/products isnt easily detectable for me, perhaps it would be better if that in this first "sweep" i miss out white items all together and just focus on green/blue/purple, i can always go back and add the whites should it be needed. --Kaso 09:39, 20 March 2007 (EDT)
from the "old school" item-adders group. I would recommend going after the Epic, rare, quest and instance-drop items (as a priority). Start at level 70 and work down, same with instances. --Dracomage 14:25, 21 March 2007 (EDT)
I think that most of the items people look for on the wiki are wearable / useable items, most of which are green or higher quality, which is a relativly easy attribute to filter. At some stage white quest items / novelty items could be added prehaps. --ρςұκε®7 talkcontr 21:04, 23 March 2007 (EDT)

the elinks-item tags Edit

the elink tag created by the bot keeps putting a space right before it. this is causing the thottbot link to be surrounded by a white box.

Source for your bot Edit

I'm interested in how you implemented your bot. Is it possible to grab a copy of the source you used for your bot? Pzychotix 12:07, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but i'll need a bit to fix my hosting, i will post (and reply on your talk page) when ive got it uploaded.

tbc Edit

Lots of items still red,, and the 2.1 changes for lvl 70 epics need to be implemented for a LOAD of items still, would the bot be able to handle this?

mainly missing the gladiator items still,  - CJ talk / cont  05:59, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

How does Kasobot handle existing pages? Edit

I filled in the stub for Infinity Blade back on the 29th using the {{Tooltip}} template. On the 31st, someone else came in and deleted some sections but left the Tooltip alone. Later that day, Kasobot came in a re-created the entire page including the tooltip. Just wondering why Kasobot did that. Your page says that it will ignore existing pages that have the {{Tooltip}} template. Does it care if tooltip is capitalized or not? Thanks! - ClydeJr - talk - contrib 20:00, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

That was an over-ride done by me, the bot can handle certain IRC commands to over-write a page with a stub. I was just making stubbs for all the Kael weapons, because the orginal pages were not boilerplate, though i guess with the infinity blade it wasnt needed so much, it was closer to boilerplate than the others which were just the tooltip text copy pasted.

More bad behavior Edit

Kasobot fails to correctly handle ammunition attributes in tooltips. See edit history of Hi-Impact Mithril Slug. --Eirik Ratcatcher 19:37, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

0daypatch.com Edit

hi

what is wrong with the link 0daypatch.com in the "Incremental Update" section?

0daypatch.com/download/ links every time to the newest patch avaliable.

deeper linking did not work with this domain! in all the most other sites you must click another link to become the realy patch!

thx for info! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Redzac (talk · contr).

Hey, As the infomation at the top of the patch mirrors page says:
Links should, if possible, link to the download page for that patch, not to a general website page. (please use the list at the bottom for such links)
The links you provided, 0daypatch.com and 0daypatch.com/download are these general website pages so they belong to the section below, the top section is for direct links to specific patches, the user should not have to search through a list to find the EnGB or deDE versions when they have already selected the deDE link, i should take them directly to the correct file. Your website supports links like this, for example [1] links directly to the enGB 2.1.2 - 2.1.3 patch, this is the type of links which should be included on the patch mirrors table. --Kaso 16:17, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

so i can list 0daypatch.com when i post also the korekt link? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Redzac (talk · contr).
Umm, i think so? Im not a admin im just trying to help explain the rules to you. But, go ahead, if its wrong again someone will remove it again.

WWBot Edit

How about having only one bot up on IRC? Set up a SVN for it and share code beetween foxbot, kasobot, laurlybot and grab some ideas from newsbot (!jobqueue for one). Yes/No ? --Adys 06:26, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Edit

How did you create that mini logo? Looks so professional... --  Shandris  talk / contribs 01:06, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

WrathLogo
I took this image cut out each of the letters so i could get the intials, W o t L K, i then used the background in the big one as a basis to create a chopped-up background that'd look better smaller. All done in Macromedia Fireworks MX which i find rather useful for doing graphics. If you like you can see the fireworks save file i used here, which has the various stages of me putting it together.
