About addons Edit

Hello Kirk, I am here to congratulate u for your grat addon in wow, i really like it and enjoy. But i am here also to ask you about the screenshoots in your addon webpage, like this one: http://www.clearfont.co.uk/Screenshots/CF%20v11100-1/WoWScrnShot_062506_031028.jpg

i really wish to know what addons you are using in this screen, the unit screen addon is awesome, and the most beatifull unit frame addon i´ve seeing.

i really wish u post a reply on this, and congratulations for your great works for wow communit.

--Frumello 07:04, 20 December 2006 (EST)

Check [1], below the first section. SinsMod - the unit frames - is not updated. My current UI is now a hell of a lot more advanced, simpler, funkier, faster and better than that one now though :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 16:52, 21 December 2006 (EST)
can u post the addons u are using? and post an SS from the new UI? I liked your taste for UI´s :) -- Frumello 07:04, 20 December 2006 (EST)
Can do soon :) On a different PC now, so will probably have to move some stuff around before it looks reasonable :P -- Kirkburn (talk) 12:31, 22 December 2006 (EST)

Your character pageEdit

Hey there, you may be interested to know that your character page, User:Kirkburn/Characters contains a small mistake; you've listed your Orc Shaman as a member of the alliance, and I'm fairly sure that that is not the case ;). IconSmall BloodElf2 MaleAPʘLLʘ(ZEUS) 16:48, 21 December 2006 (EST)

Put wowwiki IRC in welcome templates? Edit

I was wondering if might be okay to put irc.freenode.net, #wowwiki into the welcome templates: {{Welcome}} & {{Signedwelcome|<user_name>}} Not sure if this would flood the IRC channel or not, but people might like somewhere they can real-time chat with WoWWiki folks. --Fandyllic (talk) 5:29 PM PST 22 Dec 2006

Sounds good to me, that is the reason why it is advertised in multiple places is to get more to flood it. --Gryphon 20:31, 22 December 2006 (EST)
Excellent idea! Go right ahead. There's 13 people on the channel atm, could do with more :P -- Kirkburn (talk) 20:32, 22 December 2006 (EST)
I've been unable to access the IRC at all. Whenever I click on the link, I get a message saying the the browser can't load anything with "irc://" when I change it to http, I'm prompted for an ID and password. the only explanation I can come up wth is that I'm using Safari 2.0.4. Any advice?--Ragestorm, Head Bookkeeper 09:40, 23 December 2006 (EST)
You need an IRC program :) I use XChat. Quite easy to set up and use (and it'll make those links clickable) Alternatively you can use a nice basic online IRC thingy - such as IRC @ Work. I use that when at Uni. -- Kirkburn (talk) 12:21, 23 December 2006 (EST)
Ta very much.--Ragestorm, Head Bookkeeper 12:49, 23 December 2006 (EST)
Follow-up to this, the {{welcome}} template has been rewritten with IRC and more. -- Kirkburn < talk · contr > 13:54, 31 December 2006 (EST)

Half-elf editingEdit

I don't know who added this, but not only is it wrong, mired with speculation, its not neutral POV;

Contridictions
Due to the term "half-elf" comes from lore books (not all are trustworthy) some things need to be clarified. High-elves (rangers) and half-elves cannot become druids or even practice druidism. They lack the Touch of Nature, a gift given only to those who hold affinity for druidism. As they were arcane wielders, high-elves never embraced the druidic teachings of Cenarius.
The idea of "planetary cross-breeding" is disturbing since a cat cannot have kittens/puppies with a dog. Biologically, a cross-breed is impossible due to the difference between races.
Retrieved from "http://www.wowwiki.com/Half-elf"

So I removed it.Baggins 12:57, 23 December 2006 (EST)

Well they are humanoids all of them, right? White and Black and all different races of humans are all able to cross breed if im not mistaking, so i fail to see the point of removing it  D ♠ T ♣ C ♦ I ♥ WP 08:33, 25 January 2007 (EST)
There's a big difference between being humanoid and being human.  Kirkburn talk contr 08:35, 25 January 2007 (EST)
Yes true, Half-furbolgs would sound odd, but the only differences between humans and elves is mainly their ears, why wouldnt they be able to breed? Besides we have Garona  D ♠ T ♣ C ♦ I ♥ WP 08:42, 25 January 2007 (EST)
Ah, I don't think that was the problem with the section - it was the fact it was written in a distictly unprofessional and POV way. Certainly it was nothing against the idea of half-elves, which are entirely possible.  Kirkburn talk contr 10:37, 25 January 2007 (EST)
Yeah thought it was something like that after i posted it :|  D ♠ T ♣ C ♦ I ♥ WP 14:42, 25 January 2007 (EST)
I don't want to point fingers, but that looks like Celebant' work.--Ragestorm, Head Bookkeeper 13:02, 23 December 2006 (EST)

Who is Celebant?Baggins 13:04, 23 December 2006 (EST)

A contributer. Just looking over his contribs, there have been some other iffy ones too. (http://www.wowwiki.com/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=Celebant) -- Kirkburn (talk) 13:05, 23 December 2006 (EST)
From what I gather, he could be classed as a hardcore roleplayer (the level is speculation, but I know he roleplays). A couple of weeks ago, he started something similar about the War of the Ancients trilogy, offering the opinion that roleplayers needn't accept it as canon because of flawed temporal mechanics or some such. This seems similar.--Ragestorm, Head Bookkeeper 13:09, 23 December 2006 (EST)

Well, I've put accuracy stub on some of his work as well, such as that Touch of Nature. Is he connected to Kawakas? Cause Kawakas post in the talk page looks similar as well.Baggins 13:10, 23 December 2006 (EST)

I don't think so - he looked to be new to a wiki when he first arrived. Okay after further research, he has a very odd view towards the books and seems ignorant of their actual place in the universe. :( edit: shit, he's done it everywhere. Everyone, study his contrib list. -- Kirkburn (talk) 13:12, 23 December 2006 (EST)
Ah never mind Kawakas was just quoting Celebant, and mentioning how he was going to remove the questionable information. It was just that the quote kind of got merged with the rest of the text, with no seperation. As for celebant we might just have to revert every single thing he has posted...Baggins 13:16, 23 December 2006 (EST)
He should be warned about his actions, but I would prefer a lore guy do that :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 13:29, 23 December 2006 (EST)
I'll leave warnings to Ragestorm, I really don't want to go down that path again :).Baggins 13:30, 23 December 2006 (EST)
Thanks for cleaning this up, guys; sorry about my vanishing act earlier. If he pulls this again, I'll give him a stern warning.--Ragestorm, Head Bookkeeper 16:31, 23 December 2006 (EST)

DaelinEdit

Would you be willing to reinsert the removed information in a good spot? As I've stated in ragestorm's thread its best if I don't do it myself... and fall for his "trap". He's tried to pull this kind of thing before on me... In anycase you can continue the discussion in Ragestorm's talk page under section Daelin Proudmoore.Baggins 17:52, 24 December 2006 (EST)

I just looked it up, its on pg 4. I don't know what his issue is with the eldest son having no name... We can only go with the information that the book actually gives us, and no name was given... But it was about the most important piece of information given about Daelin in Day of the Dragon, and certainly belongs in the article.Baggins 18:02, 24 December 2006 (EST)
My copy of DotD is currently on the other side of the UK unfortunately :) I believe you, and the info should most certainly be in the article. Removing it is just wrong. -- Kirkburn (talk) 18:04, 24 December 2006 (EST)

CommonEdit

Is it me, but does it seem as if Blizzard somewhat treats Common as our language "English" as far as written lore goes? At least it seems to be a mixture of fictional words along with obviously earth-based terms...

Like Half-ogre, that's supposed to be the Common name for the race, where as mok'nathal is the Orcish term.Baggins 17:21, 25 December 2006 (EST)

Yeah, that sounds quite likely to me. Less thinking required, too :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 18:14, 25 December 2006 (EST)

Things that need to be movedEdit

There are quite a few articles such as, The_Jansen_Stead, that need to moved to a page without "the" in the title to follow standard wiki naming.Baggins 17:49, 26 December 2006 (EST)

Put a {{move}} template on them, and they'll get sorted soon enough :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 17:55, 26 December 2006 (EST)
Ah thanks, didn't know of that template. That'll make things easier.Baggins 17:55, 26 December 2006 (EST)
As long as you follow WW:NAME#Other Articles of course! -- Kirkburn (talk) 17:56, 26 December 2006 (EST)
And the move template takes an argument of the intended page name. -- Kirkburn (talk) 17:58, 26 December 2006 (EST)

Bookkeepers Edit

I can't think of anyone who would pass the examination than you. Fandyllic put in the header saying that the Bookkeeepers wouldn't take new members, though, and I've largely abided by that. I never questioned him, as it fit in fine with my own incomplete agenda. I'm trying to reformat the Bookkeepers, you see, so the whole thing is barely ceremonial at the moment. But then, Silverside's community plans had barely taken off when he left, and the other admins were all overwhelmed. Once I've finally completed the Charter, We'll talk in detail. --Ragestorm, Head Bookkeeper 17:20, 28 December 2006 (EST)

Heh, I knew you'd say this :P I know, it needs sorting. Another project to put on the wiki todo list - sort out the community teams, and get rid of the useless ones. Yet another over-ambitious SilverSide plan ;) Oh, and get on IRC. -- Kirkburn (talk) 17:27, 28 December 2006 (EST)
Oh, and that's the other thing- you're technically still above me in the hierarchy, boss-bot.--Ragestorm, Head Bookkeeper 17:34, 28 December 2006 (EST)
Doesn't mean you can't shout at me for lore mistakes :P -- Kirkburn (talk) 17:39, 28 December 2006 (EST)

I'd shout at Fandyllic or Rustak for lore mistakes if it were foul enough. Heck, if Metzen himself stood before me!--Ragestorm, Head Bookkeeper 17:45, 28 December 2006 (EST)

Hehe ... you know what, I don't doubt that! :P -- Kirkburn (talk) 17:55, 28 December 2006 (EST)

Datamining? Edit

What is datamining, and why do BE base stats suck so much. They were meant to be an intellectual race for the horde and instead gnomes beat them at almost everything :( --Jammidodger 10:13, 30 December 2006 (EST)

See Datamining. -- Kirkburn (talk) 10:14, 30 December 2006 (EST)

Ah, thx Kirkburn --Jammidodger 18:23, 30 December 2006 (EST)

Are you gonna bug User:Rustak to do this? Do you need his e-mail contact info? --Fandyllic (talk) 4:01 PM PST 30 Dec 2006

Could you check out somethingEdit

Could you look into Talk:Half-orc and check out the discussion towards the bottom, between Angry Ogre and I... I'm getting this impression he's more pro-horde than neutral... Baggins 20:27, 1 January 2007 (EST)

Well, he's altering another article as well, Stormpike Clan. I've left a note in talk page, could you check that out as well?Baggins 22:23, 1 January 2007 (EST)

I hope you don't mind I posted in the articles one last time, added quotation marks, for the wording he viewed as being "non-neutral" in order to point out that it is blizzard's terminology and not mine.

In addition, I put quotion marks around refrence to high elf druidism in Dark Ranger article. I also made the last section of Warcraft RPG more neutral and to point out Blizzard's view over fan views of the RPG. As much as some people hate RPG, according to Chriss Metzen, and Blizzard it is an official source of information as valid as the novels or any other source. No matter what others might wish.

If he tries to remove those quotes or alter them, he'll be destroying valid information... and you get my drift...Baggins 00:34, 2 January 2007 (EST)

If it's what is said in the RPG books, then it's 'correct'. Smiley Yes, I would agree he is biased towards the Horde, but discussion is always good. My internet isn't working well atm, so not had a chance to monitor the wiki last couple of days. Oh, and get on IRC! --  Kirkburn talk contr 09:41, 2 January 2007 (EST)

I've extended the quotation in Stormpike Clan, so letting you have the heads up, just in case someone tries to remove the quote. As for IRC, which program do you recommend? I used to use MIRC, but setting it up was such a bother that I barely used it.Baggins 18:05, 3 January 2007 (EST)

I recommend X-Chat 2 --  Kirkburn talk contr 18:32, 3 January 2007 (EST)

Knight Ahh, crikey, theron did it again... He completel removed an entire section out of knight article, the section dealing with "KNights in World of WArcraft". Can you revert it and warn him please?...Baggins 21:44, 3 January 2007 (EST)

I noticed you deleted an image uploaded by User:Thejeni, I made a post in WoWWiki talk:RC Patrol about his links. The site he's pushing makes heavy use of pictures taken from wow.gameamp.com. Maybe you could take a look. --Beep2 18:08, 5 January 2007 (EST)

Protection problem Edit

No, this has nothing to do with condoms. ~

I noticed that when I clicked on "Unprotect" at the top of my user page, it brought me to a page that asked if I wanted to protect my article (i.e. EDIT = default, MOVE = Sysops Only). This confused me, since I thought the article was protected already, so I made a dummy login and successfully edited my user page on that login. I logged back in to User:Montag and "Unprotect" still appeared at the top of the page. ~

I'm not sure what's up. Any ideas? // Montagg (talk · contr) 15:42, 6 January 2007 (EST)

Hmm, interjecting... Your user page is only protected in terms of moving, i.e. your dummy login shouldn't be able to move your user page away. Editing is still enabled (default). --Hobinheim (talk · contr) 16:01, 6 January 2007 (EST)
