Is there any way you could turn it off for me? Sometimes it pops up even though my bot is not even adding links. Example: Original:

{{Stub/Mob}}
{{Mobbox
 |name = Amani'Shi Protector <!-- Name of mob -->
 |image = Amani'shi_Protector.jpg <!-- put the picture file path here -->
 |race = Troll <!-- Race, such as "Blood Elf" or "Trogg -->
 |type = Humanoid <!-- Type, such as humanoid or beast. -->
 |elite = Elite <!-- write "Elite" here only if it is an elite mob -->
 |attitude = Hostile <!-- Default attitude towards players: Neutral, Hostile, Friendly -->
}}

Changed:

{{Stub/Mob}}
{{npcbox
 | name = Amani'Shi Protector

 | race = Troll
 | creature = Humanoid
 | aggro = {{aggro|-1|-1}}

Interwiki link templates

See Interwiki link templates section on Fandyllic's talk page for the beginning of this thread.

The effect of the code tweak is that interwiki links get different classes based on where they go. The CSS to create them would be ours, so that's what I meant by the huge range. The range is as big as the number of interwiki locations we have. Kirkburn  talk  contr 22:09, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I see, we could add favicon.ico's or the equivalent for every likely interwiki link we might use, but {{elink}} would probably still get used for non-interwiki sites. {{wikialink}} and {{wplink}} could go away. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 6:38 PM PST 6 May 2008

So... friendly admin - when I log in to wowwiki, and go to the front page (www.wowwiki.com) I am redirected to http://www.wowwiki.com/Portal:Main

Old Gods

Hey, I wanted to add that it is hinted (though not explicitly stated) in the War of the Ancients Trilogy that the Old Gods are stronger individually than the Titans are, but I wasn't sure if that belonged on the Old Gods' page or heir speculation page, what do you think? Check out the Sundering page 252, third sentence, "It had taken the combined might of many Titans to even force them into captivity; after their triumphant return, there would be little effort needed to eradicate this single, arrogant creature and turn his warriors to their cause." I realize its not explicitly said, but to me at least, it seems pretty clear that's what their saying, what do you think? Lckyluke372 (talk) 00:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Is this the correct place for this discussion?--SWM2448 00:54, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, this discussion is which article should it put it under, i just gave y sources and actually only want to know which article it belongs in. Lckyluke372 (talk) 00:59, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

A note in the main article saying that the Three Old Gods collectively considered themselves a match for any single Titan. I don't think the statement is conclusive, given that I've never seen any other source state that any Titans other than the Pantheon were involved, and at the time they were only four. This would mean that the collective power of Aman'thul, Eonar, Norgannon and Khaz'Goroth was great enough to kill one of them and imprison the other four, a power estimate that would still make the Three collectively stronger than Sargeras. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 13:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

It would help if we knew how many Old Gods their were wouldn't it? Oh well, I suppose we don't really know one way or the other do we? I'll leave it alone then. Lckyluke372 (talk) 17:31, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Total of Five, Three imprisoned and working together, C'Thun imprisoned and working on his own, and one dead. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 20:29, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Account rename

First of all I'm very new to actually doing more than just reading Wikis, so I don't know if this is the right place to put this to at all, and my problem is quite small.

But, because I'm a nub, and didn't read the registration rules/guidelines properly, my usual nickname of "wT" turned into "WT" 'cos the wiki automatically capitalize the first letter of your username for you. So if it's possible and not too much hassle I'd like to get my name renamed to "Wt" instead which I think looks better than "WT"... a bit silly, /shrug.

I read from somewhere that it's better and faster to just create a new account with the name you want if there's not too much stuff done yet on the account, so just say the word and I'll do that instead, thank you for your time and sorry for being so long-winded for such a simple matter :o --wT (talk) 21:48, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Wiki maintenance - gold ads

I also edit on EVEwiki (www.eve-wiki.net), and it was mentioned that no way was known to stop ISK (gold) ads from appearing in google syndication ads. As you are one of the more potent voices here, I am hoping you also have a line on how to block particular ads, vendors, or perhaps even varieties of vendors, from appearing in google banner ads.

I appeal to you: lend me your wisdom, that I might pass unto others in different realms those secrets of maintaining decorum in advertising. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:11, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

C2C

For the sake of my sanity, please: if you're going to use this template, create the target category page first. -- Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 17:41, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

No? I'm not going to create unused categories. Kirkburn  talk  contr 03:18, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Then move a single article into the new category. Voila!
As I understand it, C2C means, "all the items in this category should really be in category Y". I read this as "this is wrong, but I'm not going to actually move myself to fix it." I find the lack of effort as offensive as you apparently find the unused category. I have no objection, in principle, to the new category. But I do object to the method of getting it changed.
I would have much less unhappiness were you to use something like WoWWiki:Bot_requests to accomplish this goal. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:36, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
It is a bot request - WW:BR#Perpetual. You logic seems to suggest that those who add stubs, and other such problem flagging templates should do it all themselves. That is not the point of the templates. They are there to flag up problems for others to take a look at. Having two actively used categories for one topic is worse than having one incorrectly named category, hence why everything should be done at once. Kirkburn  talk  contr 03:39, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
I ran across the tag without that context. You will note that the the template makes no mention of WW:BR#Perpetual. Instead, it presents instructions to the reader. Which I was/am. {{stub}} presents a request for assistance, not a demand. Looking at the current C2C template, I feel rather like I'm being told "No! Bad dog!".
On the "having two actively used categories" theme, I refer back to my comment, "presents instructions to the reader". Were I to add a new page to a C2C-marked category, which category is the proper one? I agree with the sentiment, though. It's part of the gripes I've had with Zeal, after all - leaving things betwixt and between. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:29, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
It's barely anything to do with Zeal. I have no problem with people wanting to do ahead and fix the categories if they want - it doesn't have to be done by a bot. However, I see no reason why the categories shouldn't be flagged up for moving even if I'm not going to do it myself - if I was going to do it myself, I wouldn't bother tagging it!
The length of time c2c is likely to appear on a category is minimal - most are done within a few hours or days. Yes, it's possible a user might be unsure where to put an article - I suppose c2c could be worded better. Mainly, I don't like the idea of encouraging the use of two categories at once, which might be encouraged by creating the new category before anyone is going to mass move the articles. Kirkburn  talk  contr
I've updated {{c2c}}'s wording. Kirkburn  talk  contr 20:26, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
TYVM. I appreciate your effort, and time. Perhaps I have simply been unlucky in having hit those C2C categories during that "days" period. I will likely add some text to Category:Incorrect categories, because of the double "user redirect" (See this; this says See That). --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 15:57, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Portals re-working

Gahoo was talking to me and indicated you may be interested in implementing the load-less portal tab switching thing.

I've looked into this a bit, the portals would have to be redesigned to something like User:Pcj/Sandbox/Portal:Main, User:Pcj/Sandbox/Portal:World of Warcraft, et al. (and no, the load-less function isn't built-in yet, see below)

The basic gist of the changes is to just separate off the content that changes from portal to portal so that it is accessible both for people without JS (i.e., they browse directly to the page and still see all the navigation) as well as making it a clean load for the normal, JS-enabled experience. One of the added benefits of these changes is that a lot of the content which is repeated on all the pages is stuck on the main portal, making changes easier.

Anyway, one remaining concern I have is the size of the portals, the Community portal for instance is very large, like 12k for the main section content. I was wondering if you would want all the portals to load at page load and (when JS is enabled) to just switch between the content sections with the CSS display attribute or dynamically loading using a bit more complicated setup involving AJAX.

Either should work; the AJAX option is more prone to failure (time-outs, etc), but the non-AJAX version will take longer on the initial load since it would be loading all the portals but displaying one.

Bloodmoon Isle Edits

Hi Kirkburn, I am the user that added the new picture for Bloodmoon Isle among other pages. Thanks for reverting Coobra's edit. I don't understand why he undid my change in the first place and he hasn't responded yet to my talk page comment (although I just recently added it). I did have a direct question for you regarding usage of maps. Are specific subzone maps redundant due to the zone wide map on the bottom of the page? In the past I have included zone maps with the subzone highlighted in green, which I did for Bloodmoon Isle as well, but Coobra reverted it without any indication as to why. Can you please clarify what the wiki policy is regarding map inclusion/exclusion? --Rascilon (talk) 23:25, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

There isn't one that I know of. I like the idea of highlighting where stuff is on the maps, but it might be better served by a template, similar to the coordinate one we have on NPCs. I'll start a village pump discussion on it. Kirkburn  talk  contr 23:47, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

KirkBot broke Ashbringer

KirkBot made a simple change to Ashbringer that broke the page badly. I've fixed those edits, but you need to identify refs like this:

<ref name=foo/>

And replace them with:

<ref name="foo"/>

note:

<ref name="foo/">

The latter will move everything up to the next </ref> into the references section, which isn't what you meant to do! -Deepone (talk) 19:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Howdy again,

I was looking through the problem reports and noticed that http://www.wowwiki.com/Special:ProblemReports/13158 seems to be resolved.

I know there is no "automatic" way to close a problem report, so how about something like a discussion page on http://www.wowwiki.com/Special:ProblemReports itself ?

Or, failing that, how about a inclusion template thingy brace-brace ResolvedProblem:13158 brace-brace that would list the page on some list someplace that the admins can watch?

-Gregity (talk) 15:31, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

The report is closed now. It can be handled by admins, there don't really need to be any more mechanics to support this "feature". --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:35, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Of course there doesn't - that's why somebody didn't close the report they found. Is there a general admins page that I can use to post closure requests? Or should I just keep commenting on this page? Or does editing a page that has an open problem report on it notify the admins that the problem may have been fixed?-Gregity (talk) 16:01, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
An open problem report is not really an issue, as far as I'm concerned. If an admin sees it, and sees that it has been addressed, they will close it, which should be enough. Dynamic Sorts ?

Hi, I would like to generate a data page and make the columns sortable/filterable so if one were looking for x in area y they could specify the order and a filter.

That way I don't have to build multiple pages and (most importantly) worry that the pages were out of sync with each other.

I've not seen such functionality in Wiki but it seems that such a thing should exist.

A (theoretical) question

Kirkburn -

I'm moving from California to New England next week, so I have a (theoretical) question. Say I do win one of these WWI cards - about how long would it take to reach California from...wherever it is you're sending it? Because I would rather it not show up when I'm no longer living at this address. That would royally suck! (And before you ask: No, I don't know what the new address is yet...a week before the move and we're STILL looking.)

Thank you,

--A very concerned Joshmaul (talk) 05:19, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Only theoretical? Theoretically it might possibly be coming from maybe San Francisco, which could be California-ish. (heh). If you do win, it would probably be sent before the end of this week. Kirkburn  talk  contr 05:23, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Regarding this edit: [1] - do you know where that piece of code came from? I'm looking into it as a technical bug, so any information you can provide would be useful. Kirkburn  talk  contr 16:26, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I actually do, my work proxy is to blame. Whenever I send post information that exceeds a certain character limit, the POST stuff will show up somewhere. I've found you at last

I'm having some difficulty with Clearfont. I love it and have used it since I started playing WOW in March this year.

Since the last WOW patch which I downloaded today I don't seem to be able to find a version of Clearfont my addons (in wow) recognises as not out of date.

Even the Clearfont version which states it was updated 6 hours ago (about an hour before this post) doesn't work for me. This one I sourced from Curse Gaming.

There seems to be a lot of versions and outdated information on Clearfont, I thought I had the latest version but obviously not.

I've read through all the information on your website, on wiki and curse and still have had no luck.

I'm a bit of a technonoob but have downloaded and added it successfully for the past 8 months so I'm pretty sure thats not the problem.

Any suggestions? I love it, I'd even pay for it if I could get a version that worked.

Being a technonoob is also probably why I had so much trouble trying to find a way to contact you, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum but it was the only generic topic one I could find.

Cheers, Hulachook.

I don't really have time to look after CF2 at the moment, but you can use http://www.tekkub.net/addons/tekticles instead ... it should be basically identical, just without the in-game options. Kirkburn  talk  contr 16:55, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Firefox 2 error

Sorry to contact you here, but I have no other possibility at this time. I need a neutral party

Over the past several days the user Zarnks has been posting fairly skewed data on high elf pages. (specifically Talk:High Elf, and Gilthares Firebough) I have reverted several of his edits (due to lack of neutrality and sources) and it seems that all he is capable of is pushing buttons... specifically mine. Could you talk to him, or something? I've tried to stay neutral on the topics, but he's been driving me crazy. If you find I am at fault for anything, please let me know.--Blayaden (talk) 01:01, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

We agreed on a compromise on Gilthares yesterday I have not edited the main article on high elves only expressing a differing opinion on the talk page(which is what its for). I am sorry If I offended you. Zarnks (talk) 03:01, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Help a noob out?

Hi Kirkburn. I'm sorry to bother you but I'm not sure where to turn and I noticed you've modified the page in question. I made a change to Guild_website_utilities a while back, moving a guild hosting site into what I thought was its proper place (much lower on the alphabetically-sorted list). They moved themselves back into a more prominent location, using what as far as I can tell is a fake spelling of their name ("eXplosive" rather than the "Xplosive" used in their elink, domain name and promotional info on their website). My opinion is that this is a violation of WowWiki:External_links, but I just got here. Rather than start a revert war I figured I'd ask for a third party to step in. Would you mind helping resolve this or pointing me in the right direction? Thanks.

Please clarify

In Help:Editing/Basic is guidance: "<br> is sufficient as wikitext code. The XHTML code <br /> is not needed; the system produces this code."

Revision history of "Trophy fish" has a change by Kirkbot, "Typo fixing, Replaced: <br> → <br /> using AWB"

Which is correct? If the KirkBot change is prefered, the editing documentation ought to reflect that.

Madkaugh (talk) 21:19, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

<br /> is more "correct" for XHTML code, the wiki just doesn't force you to use it. I've tweaked the text slightly. Use either tbh, but as it costs almost nothing in bot power, I leave that switching them. Kirkburn  talk  contr 22:06, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I have used it for relatively small things here and there from my main account in the past, but it will be less hassle to just do a few things with it from the bot account, than to have you look through my entire edit history for bits here and there. I have always run it manually and attended thus far, and years of healthy computing paranoia has me religiously and closely checking the first few diffs are as intended before relaxing to only checking a sample through a larger batch. I'll drop a note here when a medium task is complete. --Murph (talk · contr) 18:05, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Speedydelete abuse and other things

I just wanted you to know that you should keep an eye out for this. I've had my template {{speculation-inline}} deleted without even a speedydelete tag and then when I restored it (saying it wasn't tagged delete or speedydelete), Pcj just put an {{sd}} tag without explanation and deleted it.

As you know, I am loathe to use my bureaucrat powers, but if people continue to abuse their admin powers, I may have to demote them to teach them a lesson. We already know Pcj has an attitude, but I don't want to see it spread.

And yes, I'm putting this on your talk page because I do want others to see it. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:22 PM PST 23 Dec 2008

Yeah, it wasn't me who put the speedydelete on the page. Please investigate the page history before making baseless accusations. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:25, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
You still carried it out when the reason was "as requested". So I retract nothing. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 1:59 PM PST 24 Dec 2008
I will admit I had a hand in this. This is not some kind of a conspiracy or some kind of major vandalism. The deletion was discussed on IRC.--SWM2448 23:22, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
...which brings us to the point where Fandyllic need to be more on IRC. g0urra[T҂C] 00:19, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
The irony being that I wasn't approached and a discussion started when I deleted it the first time. It is a template with absolutely zero purpose. Any speculation per our policies should be in a separate section titled "Speculation" with the {{speculation}} tag and any baseless speculation should be completely removed. Any inline and legitimate speculation should hence be moved to said section. Its an example of template-creep and absolutely unneeded and hence why it was removed the first time. You do not reverse the action if you don't understand why; you contact someone (preferably the deleter) by IRC, talk page, or email. Yes, I understand there's a need for due process, but when there's none, or when it's deemed unneeded by a certain number of people, you don't force it down peoples' throats. --Sky (t · c · w) 01:00, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Merry Christmas to ya'll :) Most of you shouldn't be reading this, but anyway... IRC does not have easily read logs, nor did the comment specify IRC. Please remember not to assume knowledge! Yes, IRC is useful, but you still need to make decisions understandable for those not on IRC, whether that be Fandyllic or other users. Kirkburn  talk  contr 20:08, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Your comment is valid to an extend Kirkburn, a bureaucrat who doesn't bother to be on IRC has no right to threaten to demote an administrator and shows irresponsibility.
Diversity of opinions in an administration team is great. But when I look from it with a few steps back, all I see is the entire team being relatively organized and one or two guys making a whole mess out of it, people who don't bother to stay up-to-date with the rest of the team.
Again, I'm inactive lately and my opinion is just that: an opinion. Take it for what it is but I think you, Fandyllic, should consider either changing radically the way you manage your powers, or be yourself demoted before you threaten more people.
Merry christmas. User:Adys/Sig 04:50, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Did someone mention IRC logs? http://ibot.rikers.org/%23wowwiki/ Also, wikis work by collaboration, admins are given tools to clean up the junk that accumulates. There is a certain amount of trust indicated in the position; Fandyllic should have contacted me before complaining. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 05:17, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Again, the edit comment did not mention IRC, and IRC logs are not easily searched (you do recall how much random stuff we talk about? ;) ). I myself have not managed to get on IRC much recently due to being very busy elsewhere - it's existence is a luxury, not a requirement.
Anyway, it's holidays, make merry, and this isn't the end of the world. You should see the stuff that goes on on some other wikis... :) Kirkburn  talk  contr 16:06, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Adys, you might want to change your tone. Maybe you can take my place in representing the community with Wikia? Go ahead, start a vote... if you win I'll be glad for you to take my place. As for Pcj's comment. Admin powers are not for undefended reversions and using them as a tool in what appears to be a personal grudge. As I said with Adys, if you want to take my place or get rid of me, start a vote. I will honor any result. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 1:06 AM PST 1 Feb 2009

The new category system: Hateful

I suppose this could be answered before and whatever, but I would like to know if there's any possibility of deactivating this new tool.

You know, this one where categories appear as small banners.

First of all, as "Old School" editor in other wikias, I prefer writing the categories by myself.

Second, this new system adds blank spaces to the page every time you edit it. And it's kinda annoying.

That's all. Hope you can give me a solution ;).

Yeah, I know, but the system keeps adding blank space. It's just annoying. Uh, and don't try to edit a single section, because you'll end creating spaces in the middle of the article.
Hope you solve it soon ;).--Lon-ami (talk) 09:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Problem with Portal:Main and Portal:WotLK pages

For the last few weeks I have noticed that Portal:Main and Portal:WotLK do not load for some reason - I can use direct urls to other pages www.wowwiki.com/Patch 3.1.0 and then from there go to any page I want unless it is the Main or WotLK Portals -- they just do not load some times -- I have in my preferences the option Check this box to use the custom WoWWiki Monaco skin (recommended). This setting will follow you across Wikia. checked but as I mentioned some days ( like today ) it wont load anything unless I go to a page via direct link and then go to where I want via links or search box - so far as i can tell Every page but the main Portal pages Portal:Main, Portal:WotLK, Portal:Interface customization (those portal pages ) do not work all of the time - the sub pages of them do work ie Portal:Main/Help pages do work -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 01:56, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

I couldn't care more about threats towards me (particularly with a recent activity like mine), but I do care about how Baggins got harassed recently and how you took part of some primary school-level bullying. I'm concerned about the constant "Fandy did this, Fandy did that" coming up in emails, on IRC, in IMs and god knows where else. I'm annoyed to see people I know just submit to the will of someone who knows much less about a case than others, just because he has more power.
I'm concerned about all of this. We were about to contact Kirk to get his approval on kd3 and talk about you very seriously; I think that won't be as necessary if you start spitting out threats to other admins.
Try to be part of your own team, or don't be part of it at all; the way you've been acting would've gotten any user banned. I think it'll be really gentle if you still even have admin rights once this is closed for good. User:Adys/Sig 20:06, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

On a recent edit round, Kirkbot replaced ":INV_Misc_Shell_03" with ":INV Misc Shell 03". In what way are the underbars erroneous? The look of the page is unchanged. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:30, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Nah, nothing particularly wrong with it, it's just an automatic cleanup thing - mostly for clarity I guess. It does the same with article links. I haven't run AWB for a while, but it looks like most articles are coded pretty well atm :) Kirkburn  talk  contr 20:34, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I demoted Adys

The reason is basically here. I think I talked to you awhile back about how I wasn't going to take the BS as much anymore. Also, if you need any evidence about my concerns of a cabal of some admins basically scheming without the interests of other admins in mind, I think this is a pretty good piece of evidence. Perhaps you even were party to some of these discussions on IRC, but chose to give the benefit of the doubt.

I offered to remove myself from adminship previously, but if you agree with a large enough group of admins, I'm fine with not being a sysop or bureaucrat. I only would like to know who wanted to demote me and why.

Sorry to air this kind of dirty laundry here, but as you know I prefer openness to backroom dealing. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:19 PM PST 8 Apr 2009

WoWWiki AddOn updater

What would the feasibility (as far as bandwidth concerns, allowing other file extensions to be uploaded, etc.) be of allowing people to upload AddOns to the website and allow users to update as a module in WoWInterface's Minion updater? I think they have a place that Wikia could put ads, might be another revenue source if it works out... Just bouncing around an idea. Let me know. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 03:19, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

It's something we've looked at in the past, but as far as I know, the bandwidth costs are likely to be much higher the the return me might get from it. I'd worry about stuff like who can upload updates, security issues, testing uploads, and general backend issues (especially on patch days). It is a very interesting idea, though - crucially has mentioned it to me before - you could try chatting to him on IRC? Kirkburn  talk  contr 17:00, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Crucially says the servers can handle it. Is there anything else to consider before bringing it up for a general debate? Obviously the security concerns and other things still need worked out. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:55, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
I would love to get a list of what we would/would not want and need for doing this, from a community perspective. A forum post sounds like a good idea, but it should be noted that we don't want to get hopes up too quickly. Kirkburn  talk  contr 19:03, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
To be clearer on this, are you okay with being the main evangelist on this at the moment? Hey, the changes you made to the portals seem to have broken Safari's view of it, it renders blank pages for the portals now. See http://img.skitch.com/20090521-bkfi1ruwtn5r987kwcp8gqspcx.jpg

Regarding Vandalism and Admin "gone wild"

Greetings,

Am curious to why a wiki page was locked due to a page that was modified from it's original format being reverted back to the original. The admin "Coobra" "reverted" the page back to the modified version with a warning to my account regarding this.

I am curious why the page was reverted back to the CHANGED version vs the original format. And why the others who were the original ones to modify the page from the original format did not get a warning and I did.

-- Vabu.exodar (talk) 06:13, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Guess I'll explain it to you slowly... again. View the history of the page, I locked it to stop the edit wars going on, its not a perma-lock. I reverted nothing which as I'll say again, haven't touched anything. And it appears to me that your changes are unwanted according to posts on the official forums Exodar Progression Page and Exodar Realm Forums. And I'd like to ask what warning? Telling you to discuss the changes on Server talk:Exodar US/Level 80 raid Progression is not a warning, its a way of getting you to communicate to the others (FYI Rainman5419 got the same message). Which I see you're still not communicating with them, you're going all over the place to continue complaining. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 06:28, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Guess I wasn't clear in my other questions to you personally, so let me format and state this very slow as well.... First off, I am sorry I did not know you were "Kirkburn" my apologies. As for going all over the place to continue complaining, this is the second area as you stated they are not vandals, however I disagree with the warning to me but not to Rainman5419. You claim and I quote "As for the (FYI Rainman5419 got the same message). " however, http://www.wowwiki.com/User:Rainman5419 and http://www.wowwiki.com/User:Rainman5419 state otherwise there is no history of a message to him giving the same warning which I received and can be seen (on a computer that I am not even logged onto)
So other than that, I am curious also where this is going to go from here do I wait for more players to respond to the thread saying they liked the older format to be a valid community wish? They as well have not posted in that server talk area an after having several level 1 alts log on and harass me I'm not exactly inclinded to talk to them. If not please point me in the correct direction, as I don't want to get banned.... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vabu.exodar (talk · contr).
Well you've complained on the vandals page, my page, baggins page, and now here.. thats 4. And yea I'll respond on other people's talk pages if someone starts claiming that I'm doing things that I'm not, you better believe it. I'm still wondering what warning to which your referring... the comment about how to add vandal to the list? or the the comment of me telling you where to discuss your edit changes. If you're referring to the adding a vandal to the list of course rainman5419 didn't receive it as he wasn't adding anyone. If you you're referring to the comment of me telling you where to discuss changes, then you're blind, its right HERE. Want to know where to go from here? Try, as I've mentioned a few times now, communicating. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 07:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Question

Hello,

I am writing on behalf of a project myself, and two other Research Master students at Utrecht University, are doing on World of Warcraft for a University project (as I myself have been playing WoW since December 2007, I thought it might be interesting to look at the community within WoW) - specifically addressing and wishing to correct some more negative assumptions associated with the game, which we believe to be obsolete and incorrect. For our research we are conducting a general internet survey open to anyone who has played, or is playing WoW, you can find here: http://vw-researchproject.110mb.com

Before just going ahead and posting in the forums, we wanted to ask and confirm that we would be allowed to post our link to our survey on your site in order to find people to take the survey (as naturally, for the research to be completed we need participants)! We just are looking to post it on the site for those interested, and are not looking to contact users or spam the forums with it, just, after reading your rules, wanted to confirm with you that a post would be ok.

Thanks in advance, and looking forward to hearing back from you. Regards, Tzoanna

That sounds fine to me :) I suggest posting it in Forum:World of Warcraft. Good luck! Kirkburn  talk  contr 14:16, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Category JS problem

When I "check the box to use the custom WoWWiki Monaco skin", I cannot add a category to a page with a redirect. I tried the visual view and the code view. I gave up and went back to the old "wowwiki" skin and it worked fine. I was editing Besting the Black Dragonflight if you can find anything in the logs about why this was failing. It's possible, although it seems less likely, that it was a browser specific issue. I was using Firefox 3.0.11 when this happened, and it should be reproducible. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 10:30 AM, 11 Jul 2009 (EDT)

Yeah, I can confirm it - will pass it on to be fixed. Thanks! Kirkburn  talk  contr 14:06, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
It seems to be mostly fixed, although there is a display issue (at least in Chrome). When I look at the page, I don't see the category. But if I edit the page, or change the skin, I can see that the category is there. See Denyin' The Scion for example. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 6:40 PM, 21 Jul 2009 (EDT)

Search problem

I don't know if this is user error, or if something is really goofy with searching. I searched for "Ignis" and there is a page with that exact name, and nothing. Same thing with Ignis the Furnace Master. Weird huh? Both of those pages should be in the main namespace, and that's checked. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 9:01 AM, 12 Jul 2009 (EDT)

"Help:Minor Edit"

The 'minor edit' link at the bottom of the edit window leads to a page that declares "this page has been deleted" at the top. I think that's probably an unreasonable state for a page linked to by wiki page layout links.

What led me there was Rolandius' pointing out that the minor edit page mentions 'categories' as a minor edit. My impression, particularly from some of the hazing Rolandius has taken, was that categories are often a step up from 'minor'. Easier to take offense at, in many cases. I'd add a comment on the discussion page for Minor Edit, were I more sure that the page actually existed... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:13, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I now notice that the text I am seeing "is stored on Wikia Help". We share that page with them, then? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:14, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Yes, Wikia help is replicated across all Wikia wikia. The local page was deleted probably because it was redundant and/or outdated. In any case the use of minor edit is not "policy", Wikia's or WoWWiki's, and Wikia tends to define things a bit differently than WoWWiki may. I would say (and have) that changing category structure is a step up from a minor change. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:17, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
FWIW - I would agree more with the "definition" of a minor edit at the Meta Help page. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:19, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
I believe Meta's definition agrees more with my own. We should, perhaps, override Wikia's help definition. Pretty sure that that is what's happening here. ... The 'deletion date' is in 2007. Were we already in Wikia by then? I thought we moved later than that. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:15, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Frag Belt item page

This is the first time i am editing any page of WoW-Wiki so please bear any noob Qs. In the Inv belt 36 [Eternal Belt Buckle] page there was some problem with the tootip of Trade engineering [Belt-Clipped Spynoculars] so i changed it to Trade engineering [Frag Belt] as per the latest patch. But the problem is still there with the Item hyper-linking so i linked it simply to the Trade engineering [Frag Belt] item page. Also in the Trade engineering [Frag Belt] item page should there be any images to the reagents as it is with the tools. At last if u make the appropriate changes tell me how u did it if it's fine with you. I tried but was not successful.

Guild navbox deletion

My guild's navbox was deleted by pcj as a violation of the WW:GUILD policy that "A complete list of guild members" is not allowed. Our navbox only contained links to those members that had taken the time to create WoWWiki character pages, not a listing of the entire guild membership. It was designed to be used as the footer for our guild page and our character pages to facilitate navigation between the related articles.

I presented my reasoning to pcj on his/her talk page but was told the deletion would stand. pcj was kind enough to refer me you when I asked to whom I could appeal the decision. I'd like a second opinion from you: does a navbox-style list of a guild's active character pages violate the spirit of the guild page policy? -- Dmleach (talk) 01:02, October 5, 2009 (UTC)
