The Old Gods' forces are the collective grouping of all the entities and organizations that serve the Old Gods that exists since the shaping of Azeroth at this time constituted mainly by (enslaved) elementals and Old God creations. Although the original faction suffered an epic defeat and their masters (and almost, if not all of the minions) were locked away or into of Azeroth the faction appears to regrow over the various millenniums, very slowly, gaining the adhesion of some groups of mortals and other factions, awaiting the time of the liberation and return of their evil masters.
−
Raid target icons (sometimes referred to as lucky charms) are icons that raid leaders/assistants and party members can place over players and mobs. This feature was introduced in Patch 1.11.

  +
In the recent times become clear the increasing of the Old Lords activities in Azeroth, and despite today the Old Gods' forces likes an unofficial faction, with most of their members just allying one with other (like the Black flight, Ragnaros, Al'akir, naga of Nazjatar, Twilight's Hammer and some sub-affiliated factions) but wit no official real internal organization, appears that this alliance, may thinking that the time has come, launch a massive assault in a attempt to expand their influence, territory and power and reshape Azeroth.

* The Emerald Nightmare
−
* Rather than saying "sheep left, sap right, attack middle", a party leader can say "sheep moon, sap cross, attack skull"; once the convention is established and all players understand what each symbol means, the party leader won't even have to say that. The advantage of this method over the former is that even if the mobs move around, it's still clear what they're designated for (it's also often the case that it's ambiguous exactly who the "left" mob is, and sometimes it's hard and time-consuming to describe which mob you mean using only words).

  +
** Based in the Emerald Dream
−
* Rather than the continual assisting of the raid leader, the raid leader can place icons on mobs and assign players to specific mobs, with "Player X has Lucky Charm Y".

  +
** Composed by various corrupted nature creatures.
−
* The "Skull" lucky charm is almost invariably used to indicate which target should have DPS targeted upon it.

Another use is to speed up pulls in 20-40 man instances by having each symbol assigned to a tank. Among the tanks in your guild, or at the beginning of the raid declare the "tanking order" meaning assigning each symbol to a tank number. For example: Star is the target of the tank on the top of the Main Tank list, Circle to the number 2 tank on Main Tank list etc. (this can also be done for Crowd Control by putting your mages/warlocks/etc. on the Main Tank list).

Carrying this further, a Raid Leader could even appoint each of those tanks / Crowd Controllers as Raid Assistant, and let them mark their own targets. Assuming your tanks are on the ball, this can save time where the Raid Leader does not need to be assigning targets, and ensures each person actually has that target targeted. Each tank / crowd controller should always use the same Icon (both within the raid, and even across multiple raids, e.g., "ElfMan always tanks the blue square") for this to work. This is for more advanced use, and some Raid Leaders do not like appointing Assistants.

API and key bindings
−
These icons can be set programmatically in a macro with the SetRaidTarget function.

−
Example, <code>/script SetRaidTarget("target", 8);</code> will mark the target with a Skull, 8 standing for the Icon number.

  +
Former allies
−
Alternatively, they can be bound to keys for quick application. For example, Skull could be bound to Ctrl-K (Kill, sKull) so that the raid leader or assist can apply the icon quickly to a new target during a fight.

  +
*Neptulon and the water elementals used to work for the old gods before the imprisonment in the Elemental planes.
  +
*Therazane and the Earth elementals used to work for the old gods before the imprisonment in the Elemental planes.

History
−
For even faster marking, combining the macro <code>/script SetRaidTarget("mouseover", #);</code> (# of course being replaced with the corresponding icon's number) with key bindings will allow you to apply icons without actually targetting anything.

The nickname originates from their appearance similar to the marshmallows from the Cereal Lucky Charms. The commercials feature kids chasing Lucky the Leprechaun, who would inevitably remind them that his cereal contained "Hearts, stars, horseshoes, clovers and blue moons, pots of gold and rainbows, and the red balloon!" These shapes were nearly impossible to identify without the jingle, as the tiny little marshmallow bits bear only the vaguest resemblance to the Lucky Charms they represented.

It is self-evident however that the Old Gods possess worshippers across all the world's peoples and cultures somehow. The Old Gods are imprisoned and asleep deep beneath the earth, but their power is so vast that their maddening, destructive taint seeps from their prisons and appears to tear away at the sanity of an unknown number of Azeroth's inhabitants. To what extent sentient beings can fall under the influence of the Old Gods in this manner is not well understood, but those who hear the Old Whisperings most clearly have joined together in a coalition that is known as the Twilight's Hammer. Most of these cultists and followers have lost every ounce of their sanity and have become completely unpredictable and malefic, and, sometimes, things which are far worse. Through the leadership of the ogre-mage Cho'gall, a powerful servant of C'Thun, the Twilight's Hammer has in recent times become the focal point for mortal worship of the Old Gods, and the cult's influence has since begun to increase alarmingly. Former members of both Alliance and Horde inexplicably flock to its service as if heeding a silent calling, and unrepentantly assist in bringing about the final hour of mortal existence on Azeroth. Large groups of the Twilight's Hammer have been observed to settle at or near sites where they believe the Old Gods or their minions are sealed away; many await C'Thun's awakening in Silithus, while others appear to serve Ragnaros in the Blackrock Depths alongside the Dark Iron dwarves. The largest concentrations of the Twilight's Hammer however are located at Grim Batol and the Bastion of Twilight, within a region of the Eastern Kingdoms that is now referred to as the Twilight Highlands.

In some cases, evil but still sane individuals have been known to deliberately turn to worship of the Old Gods out of spite, when they feel that other, more mainstream powers have mistreated them. Anarchists also sometimes fall to worship of the Old Gods out of a desire to destroy the world; some believe a new, better existence will rise up in the wake of the destruction. In either case, these individuals are deluded or misinformed and any who do manage to make even the barest real contact with the Old Gods go hopelessly and irrevocably insane.

Large groups of the Twilight's Hammer have been observed to settle at or near sites where they believe the Old Gods or their minions are sealed away; many await C'Thun's awakening in Silithus, while others appear to serve Ragnaros in the Blackrock Depths alongside the Dark Iron dwarves.[1] The largest concentrations of the Twilight's Hammer however are located at Grim Batol and the Bastion of Twilight, within a region of the Eastern Kingdoms that is now referred to as the Twilight Highlands.
