Woah! Ratings boom! Edit

Old Heroes category Edit

Mikk, I wondered whether you could help me out with a quick thing? Was browsing around, in the Things to do category, and came across the Old Heroes category, which has been suggested to be moved to Category:Warcraft III hero units, do you think I should go ahead and create the category (or Category:Warcraft III/Hero Units category) then move everything from Category:Old Heroes to the new category? Or do I have to wait for permission from admins, or wait for one to do it? Thanks in advance. --Bull3t 14:24, 18 October 2006 (EDT)

There's very few things that you need admin "permission" for. As for how to go about doing stuff, there's two viewpoints: BE BOLD, and revert if you have to, or to vote first. When talking about large-scale changes (ones that aren't easily reverted by just going back in history in one or two articles), it's my personal viewpoint that it might be best to have some concensus first. Which there seems to be in this case.   --Mikk (T) 15:54, 18 October 2006 (EDT)
Hmm, I think I will leave it to an admin (if they have special page move privileges), or wait until someone has given the go ahead. Thanks for that.
Nope, admins can move pages the same as users. As for categories... they can't be easily moved. You have to recategorize all the pages manually. (Or with a wikibot script)   --Mikk (T) 13:11, 19 October 2006 (EDT)

Image:Trollstammbaum.jpg Edit

Hey, sorry for having uploaded twice the temp image, but the lastest version seem to blank pages (see Village Pump) --Adys 16:50, 22 October 2006 (EDT)

Edit: Seems to having fixed it, just reduced its size to 66%... Could you delete all the "temporary uploads" of and ? Thanks :) --Adys 17:06, 22 October 2006 (EDT)

Yeah I had to try restoring the original to see wtf was happening. I assumed it was the size screwing the wiki engine over with its internal resizing and stuff. I re-did the image (downsize to 50% and write new labels that are actually readable in that size). Uploading that one now.   --Mikk (T) 17:29, 22 October 2006 (EDT)
Hi there! I have another task for you, having seen how appreciated your genealogical tree has been through the year. Would you accept to include the Wretched and Felblood elfs, who are direct offspring of the Blood Elves, albeit for different reasons: the former mutated because of their lack of magic, the latter because of their overuse of it. Thanks a lot! =) --K ) (talk) 00:31, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Those images aren't even mine to be fully honest. I just reduced the size of the troll one because it was huge. Check the other ones and you might find the original author? --Mikk (T) 02:20, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Um, true, true, I reckon it was LemonBaby who, at first, created the pic. I didn't remember it because his name doesn't appear anymore in the history. My bad!--K ) (talk) 12:16, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Automatic "Do not place content here" pages Edit

Since your name pops up enough, I thought I'd fly this by you... But first: I'm relatively new to wiki's, though I've used this one plenty for UI and game's great (although I still won't use wiki's that are subject to contributors with an agenda...great concept, but too corruptible by those with ill intent).

But back to my original thought. When something (like a wiki) is created by many individuals with widely differing skills and knowledge, organization is bound to be spotty at times, even with the help pages, rules, policies, etc.

So: why not populate "bad pages" as read-only links to the proper ones to minimize merge/move/delete operations for the wiki maintenance team? I'm not sure how a wiki is generated, but the obvious method would be to have a page look-up list that would generate the "don't post here, use <link>" link on the fly. Individual pages would work too, but making a page to prevent the making of a page seems ... inefficient, lol.

I think this would really cut down on the amount of improperly placed content, as well as leading contributors or browsers to the correct pages with minimal confusion.

--Cas 09:48, 24 October 2006 (EDT)

How do you mean? We do lots of redirects (e.g. Dragons is a redirect to Dragon). Anyone can create these on the fly. Just browse to a page that you want to create as a redirect and type "#redirect [[Destination page name]]" and tadaa :-)
Also, anyone can do merges and page moves.   --Mikk (T) 15:50, 24 October 2006 (EDT)
Hmmm, I suppose lots of redirects get the job done - was just proposing a 'list' implementation rather than an individual page implementation (i.e. if someone wanted to make a /ChestArmor page, and it was on the 'list', then it COULDN'T be made, and they would be redirected to the correct page, then again, if making the page redirection is as easy as making the list...nvm ; p). It was just an idea to cut down on misplaced pages...could also be used for misspelled pages too. Is there a bot that automatically scans new pages like /Armour, or are all new pages reviewed manually?

For ambiguous content, the link could be to a disambiguation page... speaking of which...why can't we just call them clarification pages-aren't new words for words that already exist the *opposite* of clarity. Yes, it's a cute word, but any word that interrupts the smooth flow of thought without *improving* the thought is a word that should be { {deprecated} } (imnsho ; p)

Thanks for your time!

--Cas 09:48, 24 October 2006 (EDT)

Yeah, we have these also, e.g. Bijou - and they're called disambiguation pages in wiki terminology. The whole list is in Category:Disambiguations if you're interested.
Saw that, it was just a 'what were they thinking' thought tickle, heh heh
All in all, I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to get at here, I must say. Maybe I'm just slow from the cold I'm coming down with :-P   --Mikk (T) 15:50, 24 October 2006 (EDT)
Nah, I doubt my clarity more than your acumen ; p. Just hear enough about maintenance issues that I was looking for a way to improve things...   --Cas 14:12, 24 October 2006 (PST)

gray quest items Edit

All the darkmoon faire quest items were now made white. so there should not be any use for gray items at all now, iirc. ? CJ 07:51, 25 October 2006 (EDT)

Oh, they were. Yeah, those were the only ones I knew about. Feel free to fix, then =)   --Mikk (T) 08:27, 25 October 2006 (EDT)
Iirc there is a gray mace starting a quest from Swamp of Sorrows... Noburu the Cudgel or something like that. --Adys 18:30, 25 October 2006 (EDT)
Blizzard was supposed to make non-vendor trash items white, but Thottbot and Allakhazam show Noboru's Cudgel (τ, α) as gray, so maybe there are some quest items that are gray. However, this item is technically not a quest item, but a quest "giver" item, so maybe they don't have to be white. --Fandyllic (talk) 5:16 PM PDT 25 Oct 2006

Staring area guide?Edit

Is there still a need for a guide to getting through the staring area becuse i will make them is they are needed. so tell me if they are.--SuperShammy 01:26, 28 October 2006 (EDT)SuperShammy

Oh, hum, my bad. Should have explained better. I was thinking of a rundown of some of the more annoying level 10--30ish zones, where you keep running back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, to hand in quests and whatnot. Do it in the wrong order, and you spend more time running than actually questing. The worst candidate I can think of is Duskwood, but Ashenvale (both horde & alliance) certainly qualifies also. I guess Barrens and Stonetalon fall into this category also.
I was thinking something along the lines of "Pick up quest 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Head west and do all those. Get back and hand in. Now pick up 6 and 7 and head east." And "Before heading to zone X, remember to finish prequest 8 in zone Y and bring the next step along".
  --Mikk (T) 04:20, 28 October 2006 (EDT)
/me wonders what people do in a staring area. Visit the opticians? :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 08:34, 28 October 2006 (EDT)
Ooooh, aaahhhh, double pun. Argh. Pain. Must endure.... >.<   --Mikk (T)

I'll see what i can do then. may have to start up some characters and see the fastest way through the 20ish zones. --SuperShammy 15:47, 28 October 2006 (EDT)SuperShammy

Hmm, dunno if you still need these, I've been poking around and it seems that some of these zones could use your "Pick up quest 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Head west and do all those. Get back and hand in. Now pick up 6 and 7 and head east." And "Before heading to zone X, remember to finish prequest 8 in zone Y and bring the next step along". I've been playing around with my ally alts, and am working on a horde main, so I'll see what I can do. --Acecow 09:45, 30 March 2007 (EDT) Acecow

Online/Offline Edit

I just came up with something (like so often, I come up with useless things); is there a way to see if a User is logged in or not? And if so, how? And if not, are there any User Template-ish thingies available to make it so?

--Tinkerer 12:34, 28 October 2006 (EDT)

I tried googling around for mediawiki plugins for this; it should be doable, but I haven't found any. Or maybe my google-fu sux. Anyway, I made {{online}} and {{offline}} now.   --Mikk (T) 17:16, 28 October 2006 (EDT)

Image Category Styles Edit

'lo Mikk. Awhile back I mentioned the styles for images in Categories (Village Pump talk: WoWWiki_talk:Village_pump/Archive06#Image_Category_Styles). Haven't seen any visible change since, any update?

--Tusva 11:07, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Mmm, no kidding. I redid the CSS the same day and mailed it to Rustak. And I've prodded him, and re-prodded him since. Getting mildly annoyed myself.   --Mikk (T) 11:43, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Quick questions? Edit

People, including me, seem to end up using your nice little Post-It© for asking questions, though you will not always be the one who answers them (since everyone is stalking you anyway ^^). Won't it be an idea to make a Post-It for quick questions that aren't that useful in the Village pump, but useful just for a moment?

--Tinkerer 15:03, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Putting a post-it in the village pump would result in one of:
  • People not using it when they should
  • People using it when they shouldn't
... or both :-)
I see no problem with people using my post-it =)   --Mikk (T) 15:22, 30 October 2006 (EST)
Alright, not going to press it then, because if you like, I can't argue. Darn me. /go spam in Post-It again --Tinkerer 15:24, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Yeah, I considered doing that for myself. But it gets to be a lot of templates on some talk pages.   --Mikk (T) 15:12, 3 November 2006 (EST)
Hmm. Is there perhaps a <HideTemplate> Tag that could be added otherwise? So it doesn't show on the "Templates used on this page" list ?, it's not a very essential thing to list in that list.  - CJ talk / cont  04:40, 6 November 2006 (EST)

Small request Edit

Is there an icon for "Recipe" ?

Ummmm... I don't think there's a unified "recipe" picture anywhere, really. Other than perhaps the icon used in-game when you have a recipe item in your inventory. But I'm not even sure that's the same across all recipes / tradeskills.
What do you need it for, perhaps we can come up with something?   --Mikk (T) 04:08, 5 November 2006 (EST) how about that one? i'd like to use it on Fisherman's Guide to Cooking, kinda like the alliance / horde icon already there.  - CJ talk / cont  04:56, 5 November 2006 (EST)

RFC: Item tooltip transclusion Edit

Hey Mikk, I've been having some fun with templates and items, I'd like your approval to slip this into Help:Item articles...

Basically what I've done is tweaked the start of the table used to make the tooltip, and added some <noinclude> blocks so that transcluded item pages will embed a tooltip into other pages. The neat majick is it all comes from the same table, so any time the item page tooltip is changed, everything that includes it will change too! For example, {{:Wasteland Stitched Leggings}} results in:
Inv pants leather 15

Sweet isn't it? The changes are minor, so existing pages can be easily tweaked to transclude as needed. If you'd like another example, check out Watchkeeper Gargolmar. I've not added pages for all the items, but I'm sure you can see where I'm headed.

I've discussed a bit with User:Kirkburn on the matter, he really likes it. He wanted me to run it by you before it's added to Help:Item articles tho. So whatcha say? --Tekkub 13:39, 10 November 2006 (EST)

I like it tbh, easy to implement aswell. I guess a bot could do that too.
Btw, No need to use {{lrare}} and change the style (nobrackets/bold), just use {{rare}} -- Adys 16:40, 10 November 2006 (EST)
{{rare}} links to Rare, whereas {{lrare}} links to the actual item. I need the link to the actual item when the page is transcluded, for example the tooltip above needs to link to Wasteland Stitched Leggings, not Rare. This just has the added bonus of properly coloring the tooltip title line in the actual page too.
Another page I've updated, to give a good idea what a boss loot page would look like. I added Thott/Alla/WoWHead links at the bottom too :) --Tekkub 17:06, 10 November 2006 (EST)
This should do the trick I guess :) --Adys 17:51, 10 November 2006 (EST)

I like how it can be used anywhere and how it sizes differently depending on where it's used. However, I'm a bit worried that Joe Wiki Editor will get very confused about how the item pages need to be designed with the noincludes and whatnot. Don't you think it'd be easier if the data was just put in a separate page altogether? Like MyItem/Tooltip. Yhea, I know, you don't get to show off your phat wiki skillz then same way :-)   --Mikk (T) 00:21, 11 November 2006 (EST)
A seperate page for the tooltip could work just as well, but I think it's kinda redundant. The noinclude blocks really aren't any more complex than a <tt></tt> block or the like... everything that's not the tooltip goes inside a noinclude block. There only needs to be two blocks at most, before the tooltip and after. Otherwise, it's just a copy-paste job from the boilerplate. If Joe wiki editor isn't comfortable with it then maybe he shouldn't be trying to conver the existing pages? Maybe I'm just a jerk... --Tekkub 00:47, 11 November 2006 (EST)

Mmm, yeah, maybe I'm being too cautious. One thing though: There's pages with multiple versions of weapons, e.g. Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian. Extracting one given tooltip out of that would be a bit messy if embedded.   --Mikk (T) 03:22, 11 November 2006 (EST)
I guess in this situation we would have to use a single template such as {{Atiesh/Druid}} --Adys 06:03, 11 November 2006 (EST)
There's always going to be exceptions :) The other thing to remember is that it's really not going to matter unless someone is trying to embed a tooltip in another page. If they are doing that, it's kindof implied that they know how to fix the embedded page if there's a problem with it. The noinclude blocks shouldn't mess up the source page if done wrong (unless the editor tries something with includeonly). --Tekkub 08:09, 11 November 2006 (EST)
True dat.   --Mikk (T) 09:09, 11 November 2006 (EST)
So can I put it in the Help:Item articles? --Tekkub 09:33, 11 November 2006 (EST)
Sure, knock yourself out =)   You might want to take a moment to explain it in the talk page though.   --Mikk (T) 09:35, 11 November 2006 (EST)
Will do. I'll add good comments inline too ^^ --Tekkub 10:19, 11 November 2006 (EST)

Template:Elinksitem Edit

Why is Template:Elinksitem using a Level 1 header? Tis ugly! The page is protected though, so could ya fix it fer meh? Thanks! --Tekkub 10:38, 11 November 2006 (EST)

Just curious if you could make a thumbnail pic for the template {{Novel}}.

I was thinking maybe you could use the image of the book from the Warcraft Archive cover, or the image of warcraft book here [2] or Image:Booklore.JPG --Baggins 17:15, 12 November 2006 (EST)

Something like bookie.jpg? 'suck at image editing, so I didn't even get the background right, but that's easily fixed. It's about the general idea :p MS Paint ftw! --Tinkerer 15:37, 12 November 2006 (EST)

Ya something like that, but cleaner... I've tried to do it myself but I can't get the correct shade of grey :pBaggins 17:11, 12 November 2006 (EST)

Oho. Or perhaps this?
You pick Baggins.   --Mikk (T) 13:53, 13 November 2006 (EST)

Hmm, I like yours Mikk, its very clean.

But I'd also like to see some alternatives with the Warcraft Archive Red Covered book. Here is a poor paint example(sorry my computer doesn't judge the greys every well);

or the cover with the Warcraft embossed on it above.

Then we can decide which we like the best. Maybe we can put the various alternates to a wowwiki member vote?Baggins 18:29, 13 November 2006 (EST)

Like this then:
And f* the vote, that just takes forever for something not very important really :-) You just pick something :-)
  --Mikk (T) 18:42, 13 November 2006 (EST)
Sweet, that red one looks even better, shadows look nice, and I like the composition and direction of the book. I also like the fact that it actually comes from artwork from the novels themselves. I say we go with that one then :)Baggins 18:44, 13 November 2006 (EST)

All my graphical works available on the wiki is released into the public domain. So, as far as my contributions are concerned, you can do with it what you wish - I'd appreciate a mention, but I can't force anyone to do it =) However, most of it also includes Blizzard work, and is subject to their rules.   --Mikk (T) 03:50, 16 November 2006 (EST)

PNG thumbs Edit

Heya Mikk. Was wondering if there was any known fix on wikimedia to the PNG Thumbnail bug, making the use of thumbs impossible without making the png unreadable. It can quickly become annoying on certain pages such as Flight Path. If so, is Rustak able to install such a fix or update the wiki version? --Adys 00:52, 19 November 2006 (EST)

Been wondering the same. I have no answer to that one right now, I'm afraid.
(Grmbl, I need to install a mediawiki on my lab box so I can play with these things...)

stub Edit

, not to be a nitpick (cough), but this image seems a bit off. the pen / feather looks like it has a yellow bleed to the bottom of it, instead of a feather / pen which it is. just looks a bit odd. Do we have any alternatives for it? like, a torn page perhaps?
Just did a check, looks ok on a white background, the odd effect only appears on a dark background.  - CJ talk / cont  10:04, 1 December 2006 (EST)

Can't say I've got a good alternative for it. If you stumble over something you'd like to use, give me a poke and I can work on it but I'm a bit stumped for good ideas atm.   --Mikk (T) 19:10, 4 December 2006 (EST)

Wow model viewer Edit

I saw Image:Bull3t-char.png and think its AMAZING. I have a few questions for you regarding Wow Model Viewer and your picture. Certain Items/spells make my whole computer freeze when trying to veiw them on a char. Such as The Unstopable Force. Any idea on why only a selet bunch of items do this? Also, How did you get the shadow added into your picture? Thx for any help you can give me. ~~ Fusk /talk\15:51, 1 December 2006 (EST)

Aeurhmm well the "problem" with WoWModelView is it's arguablly against TOS and totally unsupported. I even think development on it stopped. I'll guess that the problem is how it uses DirectX and that your graphics card hates it. Try updating your drivers and DirectX. Or try going into the "Options" menu and disabling stuff there (Anti-Alias, Env Map, HW Acceleration) until it works. (or not..)
Now, as for that image. Good luck getting WoWModelView to do that for you. That's the single most touched-up image I've done. It's a composite of several screenshots with some added-in components done by me, and then LOTS of shading work. See for the originals I've worked with. Compare e.g. "face.png" vs "face-work.jpg" to see some of the detail work that went into it.
Happy pixeling :-)   --Mikk (T) 14:12, 4 December 2006 (EST)

Calling specific part of a page name Edit

Heya Mikk. I've been testing around a fair bit with spell pages (See Category:Spells by ID) and I wanted at the start to have an automatic linking without using {{elinksspell}}. So using a template that would directly detect which spell is on the page and call the number on thottbot/allakhazam. I've been searching for the last hours a way to call the numbers of a page where the page is named 'Template:Spell:00000'. I seem to be able to get at best only Spell:00000 =/

Any idea? I'm setting up a page to test the "new template" around before creating it. --Adys 19:20, 4 December 2006 (EST)

Even if we had the parser functions I don't think it can be done. I don't know of any ways to "break up" a template parameter. Now if we were to move this stuff into a "Spell" namespace (this page is in the "User talk" namespace) then the page name would simply be the number (or the spell name for named pages)... but I don't know if they want to do that and it would require access to the server to set up I do believe. BTW Mikker, how's that coming? I have some CSS crap I want to play with but Mediawiki:Wowwiki.css doesn't seem to work as it should... Also I sent you an email Mikk, do you not use your gmail or what? --Tekkub 22:27, 4 December 2006 (EST)

I'd like to turn this question around on you. What is it that you're trying to accomplish?   --Mikk (T) 09:41, 5 December 2006 (EST)

Mikkbot malfunctionning Edit

No clue what's going on but most WoWWiki:RC/Content changes are broken. Reverted back to - some of the older ones are also broken. --Adys 06:28, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Hm I might have found what was going on. Most recent unworking versionshows that the page is 675 kb long.. --Adys 06:32, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
Heh, indeed. I've forced the script to truncate on 256 kb now. If you want to see older stuff, just mark new edits as patrolled and wait until the next update.   --Mikk (T) 09:17, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
Awesome, thanks alot :) --Adys 11:09, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
Not sure if its related but Mikkbot has been removing and adding back events on Events/Combat like CHAT_MSG_COMBAT_CREATURE_VS_CREATURE_HITS even though the Events/C page hasn't changed. Someone mentioned this on the Village Pump. - ClydeJr 11:40, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

MikkBot possible issue ? Edit

Mikk. I used your algorithm to log into the wiki for my bot. However sometime inthe last 12 hours I am getting an HTTP response of 417. Are you having this issue at all? Kitan T / C / B 12:10, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

Hmm, I haven't had that on wowwiki i don't think. Not that I follow all the logs 100%; i just check the output of the last operation once in a while. I've had it on other mediawikis running on top of lighttpd though (see and was fixed by forcing in a blank "Expect:" header in Curl, but that shouldn't ever be an issue here since wowwiki runs on top of Apache.
Can you post a copy of the exact error message? 417 is kind of generic and doesn't really begin to tell me where the problem could be.   --Mikk (T) 06:32, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Heh. Whaddayaknow. They switched to lighttpd as a frontend just now. MikkBot stopped functioning too.
What you need is " --header 'Expect:' " in the curl commandline. I'll update the scripts to reflect it.
  --Mikk (T) 07:03, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Yeah I had that and it works on my network here at work but blew at home. Unless they had some other problem last night. It is odd. I downloaded fiddler to see the HTTP requests to figure out which header was different. The thing that really blew me out of the water last night, on my home network, was that my code worked if I had fiddler up but didn't if I didn't.
Anyway, Adys asked me not to run the update I had coded for so I am going to write a new algorithm for the {{wwclub}} update. The N is much lower so there is less worry of my horking something for the admins. :)
Thank you for taking the time to answer. :) Kitan T / C / B 09:51, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Also, I took your algorithm and moved it into a .Net framework. I wanted to template a design pattern for reflection for something at work and this seemed like a good place to do that and be useful. You can take a look at my bot page if you are curious. Kitan T / C / B 09:59, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Seems the bot is messing up the wiki every hour, taking it down for up to 10 minutes! I'm going to have to block it until you can respond :) Edit: I'm not sure that even blocking it is helping. Kirkburn talk contr 06:26, 21 April 2007 (EDT)

Policies and Guidelines Edit

I have full intention of reading all of the Policies and Guidelines, it just seemed almost jumbled when I tried to look through them, I thought I was looking at the main Policies and lo and behold, I found myself at the page to create a policy.. x.x That's not a good choice to start out at, haha. Especially if I haven't even read the ones that are already out yet, I'm not griping or complaining or anything of the such, but merely pointing at my error of not being able to find the blasted thing. I was wondering how to get back to the editing page so thank you very much for linking me to the right place(^.^) and if possible, would you mind explaining the concept and "formula" for uploading an image for say.. my bio page. Honestly, is it okay to edit my talk page or no? I do not want to get into any kind of trouble, you know? Forgive me if I am talking almost in gibberish and messing up pretty much everything that I am trying to say, leaving me looking like a buffoon in retrospect, I am quite tired after a fantastic Mother's Day with my mom, so I conclude here thank you for your help and advice.. I wait. --Emmune to your Magic 10:02, 14 May 2007 (EDT)

And yes it is definitely okay to edit your own talk page. Most of us prefer to archive old contents according to WoWWiki:Archival, but if there's stuff on your talk page that you just want deleted... it's yours to delete.

Mikkbot turned off? Edit

The Mikkbot hasn't made any updates to WoWWiki:RC since 5/3/07. Has it been turned off? Pzychotix 04:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

No, it broke down with the upgrades and I skipped on fixing it until the move was done so I wouldn't just end up having to tweak it all over again. Time to fix it now I suppose! --Mikk (T) 12:07, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Speedydelete bot Edit

Hey Mikker, can you make me a quick bot (lua?) that checks all the "What links here" pages for everything in Category:Articles for speedy deletion and dumps out a list of all the ones with no links. I can doublecheck the list to make sure they're all okey to delete, then the bot could delete em all for me? I wuv you! TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 21:34, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Seems like lots of work for a smaller gain. Just l2tabbedbrowsing :) --Mikk (T) 11:21, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Opening all those pages and closing em gets old. I tried to make a transclude in {{sd}}, but "Special" pages don't transclude! The bastards! TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 17:03, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
The problem with all bot checks is that they're only valid for when the bot last scanned the page though. How often should it re-scan? Checking for changes to the page in question isn't enough since, obviously, that's not the page getting changed. Mikk (T) 19:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Well I was thinking of less a bot than a user script I guess. Kinda thing where I run it it tells me the sd pages that have no refs, I hit okey and it deletes them. TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 20:16, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mikk. Are you the creator of the logo? I'd like to use it on some new language versions of WoWWiki but wasn't sure who to attribute. Angela (from Wikia) 19:21, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

WoWWiki:Proposed icon, but I'm having no luck tracing it atm. I'ev poked him on IRC to see if he can remember. Kirkburn talk contr 21:55, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
After some discussion, it seems likely it was created or chosen by User:SilverSide. He left the wiki in odd circumstances a long time ago. Kirkburn talk contr 22:16, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for investigating this. Since it's unclear, I'll just attribute WoWWiki for now. Angela (from Wikia) 22:35, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

New Logo Question- I am making T-shirts for BlizzCon and need a high-res version (800X1000) of Since this is prob too big to upload to the wiki you can email it to me at angie at angies 22:05, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm on it. --Mikk (T) 17:38, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Right, here goes something. I have no experience in T-shirt printing whatsoever though, so do feel free to get back to me if you/the printer thinks something needs adjusting -- like if they want it with a fixed background color and no alpha channel, etc.
I couldn't really get it 800x1000 given the logo's dimensions -- it ended up more like 800x800.
The "-noshadow" one is probably what you need to use for a black background shirt. The shadowed should work on a white one.
--Mikk (T) 19:11, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Awesome! you rock. Now for a special Favor? We actually want to put the logos for Stacraft and Diablo Wikis too, but don't have anyone who can make higher-res version that would look good on a t-shirt. Would you be willing to take stab at creating an image that incorporates all three logos with BlizzCon 2007 above or below? This would be on the back of the T-shirt with Wikia logo on the front like this let me know if you can help! angies 21:15, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Well.. the diablo logo I can probably re-draw as lineart and shimmy some fire on. I'll give that a stab.. But the starcraft wiki I don't get at all. What's their logo? The starcraft critter with just "starcraft wiki" in a pixelly font? --Mikk (T) 01:20, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I think that's pretty much it :/ You could make something better! :O Kirkburn talk contr 02:14, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
They have another one, which is a little better here (the green and black one) but I am sure they would not be opposed to you coming up with a cooler one :)
Ok, here's my best effort for those two.. well.. erm.. for "i have no affiliation with them" values of "best" anyway :-)
Again, if there anything iffy about printing these on T-shirt, or minor changes that someone feels should be made, do get back to me. But if the people of the respective wikis just plain hate em and want something completely different, they're stuck with drawing their own to be fully honest :-) --Mikk (T) 21:45, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mikk-- We are creating a new banner with the Wowwiki logo you created and I am working if you have these two images still available somewhere?

Thanks! angies 18:34, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I just structured my server a bit:
If you need them in some other format just holler; I've still got the original vector art lying around. Mikk (T) 03:32, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

onlyinclude vs includeonly Edit

Their base function is the same: when included on another page, they'll show up. Difference is that onlyinclude will also show up on the base page, whereas includeonly will not. Hope this helps. :) --Sky (t · c · w) 04:55, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

quest chain subpages Edit

You may have noticed that there are a LOT of such quest chain pages... And unlike others, your category inclusion had 'noinclude' tags around it. Appreciated! Placing each one in Category:Misc local templates may be a better task for a bot, though. One of my self-appointed tasks is to write these chains up as a narrative, providing a more substantial organization of the chain, and incidentally making the subpage a useful page in its own right. ... but you did catch that bit about "a LOT", right? :) Care to join me? --Eirik Ratcatcher 22:45, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Ah, no, I have very little time for wowwiki these days, unfortunately. I'm available on freenode IRC for panic adminning, and might butt in in discussion about big changes / policy, but that's about it for now. Working on Ace3 and GMing my guild is a huge time sink.
The page you pointed to also used Category:Transcludable pages which is none of my doing, and possibly a better name than Category:Misc local templates. You might want to bring the question up on the pump or on IRC.

I'm one of many wiki admins, yes. I'm however fairly inactive these days; if you want something done, it may be better if you prodded one of the other admins. --Mikk (T) 12:45, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Do you have a larger version of: WoWWiki icon stamp

Maybe something that would look good when blown up to T-shirt size? If you have a source file (photoshop, illustrator, etc.) that would be even better, but a large PNG would do. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 1:45 PM PST 19 Mar 2009

Handling disconnected players in ChatThrottleLib? Edit

I'm wondering if there is a standard way of handling players disconnecting in ChatThrottleLib.

I've got an addon (Guild2Guild) which is using ChatThrottleLib to send messages between multiple guild channels.

I'm running into problems when the person you are sending messages to disconnects - it complains that it can no longer find the user - because there are still messages in the queue for them.

I've written some code which I think will clear the queue for that user correctly and would like to add it to ChatThrottleLib, but I'm wondering if there might also be a better / more standard way to do this.

Here's the code I added (which works with ChatThrottleLib v 20.

 function ChatThrottleLib:ClearPipe (pipename)
   if not self.bQueueing then
   local queuing = false
for name, Prio in pairs(self.Prio) do
     local pipe = Prio.ByName[pipename]
     if pipe~= nil then
       local numMsgs = select("#", pipe);
       for i = 1, numMsgs do
       Prio.ByName[] = nil
       if table.getn(Prio.ByName) > 0 then
         queuing = true
   self.bQueueing = queuing

I also added a small helper function to generate the right pipename

 function ChatThrottleLib:PipeName (prefix, chattype, destination)
   return (prefix..(chattype or "SAY")..(destination or ""))

Is there a better way to do this?

-- Durthos (talk) 21:06, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

That sounds doable. Not 100% like that but.... yes. --Mikk (T) 12:05, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Updated Script(s)? Edit

I just wanted to ask if you're using an updated script (add-on) that's not on the page linked from the Global Functions page to pull the global functions from the game. It seems like I'm missing some entries in my list. Or is it capped at a certain amount or something? I just want a list of them *all*. :)

-- StormFX (talk) 05:10, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

Well the script filters by function address to be sure to avoid FrameXML-defined functions. Sometimes they move function groups around so you need to add new address spans to the filter - it's the code.
--Mikk (T) 15:30, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

Edit: Actually, I decided it's easier to adjust the Global Scanner add-on to pick up everything and then use the Lua script + stand-alone to filter out the Frame XML stuff. Works MUCH better. Thank you for the scripts, by the way. :)

If I may ask, how are you generating the list of widget methods? :o

I've never done that. User:Flickering did that back in the day and after that Blizzard have been better at telling us about changes. As far as I know, the only way is to grab all possible strings from WoW.exe and test if functions by those names exist in the widgets. --Mikk (T) 17:41, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

Ah, OK. Well, guess I'll just go with the list(s) here and at wowpramming. I'm sure they're accurate anyhow. :) Thanks again!
