Possible promotion Edit

I've talked to Rustak about making you an admin (along with Kirkburn). He may be making me a bureaucrat at the same time, but we'll see. You've been doing alot of admin-like stuff without the power anyway. --Fandyllic 6:22 PM PDT 28 Aug 2006

Sweet your an admin now!--Ralthor 07:35, 29 August 2006 (EDT)

Aye, thoroughly pwnd :-)   -- Mikk (T) 07:36, 29 August 2006 (EDT)
Congrats! You and Kirk deserve this recognition for your efforts in bettering the Wiki! --Dracomage 21:18, 29 August 2006 (EDT)

Thanks, and... Edit

I incorrectly identified a vandal on the WoWWiki talk: Known vandals page. You correctly identified the user (I must not have gone far enough back). Should I remove the incorrectly identified row? I don't want to create yet more trouble... trying to do the right thing, and it's gotten messy. Luci 14:52, 31 August 2006 (EDT)

In the absence of Mikk (he's watching Doom, apparently), I can answer you :) Everyone makes little mistakes - you absolutely did the right thing by reporting it, and we always double-check before blocking anyone. I'll remove the line now since you've seen it, and that's all it was needed for :) Thanks again for reporting vandals - you gave Mikk his first opportunity to exercise his ban-stick. I think that's a good thing, anyway ... :P -- Kirkburn (talk) 15:08, 31 August 2006 (EDT)
Woot. And, grats Mikk. Luci 15:13, 31 August 2006 (EDT)

Blocking by request? Edit

I noticed:

(Block log); 06:10 . . Mikk (Talk | block) (blocked "User:mikma" with an expiry time of 1 week: 1 week ban, as requested by Mikma :-))

Are you testing something? --Fandyllic 8:30 AM PDT 1 Sep 2006

Nah, Mikma asked me to do it himself :-)   (He's one of the people hanging out in #wowi-lounge)   --Mikk (T) 11:49, 1 September 2006 (EDT)
Yeah, I think he was. He wanted me to try blocking him myself :P -- Kirkburn (talk) 10:11, 1 September 2006 (EDT)
Wait, you blocked Mikma? Too many Mikks! It's too confusing ... still want me to block you? ;) -- Kirkburn (talk) 12:15, 1 September 2006 (EDT)
Nah, I'm good. I can block Mikktest :-)   --Mikk (T) 12:31, 1 September 2006 (EDT)

User:Trinitty Edit

Hum, Trinitty's one-week blocking is maybe a little too strict. Isn't it the first time he mistakes himself ?--Kirochi 02:44, 14 September 2006 (EDT)
I debated it back and forth for a while. For me, the deciding factor was deleting content from News and inserting his full-text ad there. Had it only been the pump and the community portal talk page, I'd probably have let him off with a warning.   --Mikk (T) 02:48, 14 September 2006 (EDT)
I would agree with Mikk here. If the guy didn't realise that a NEWS page wasn't the place for his advertising, he deserves to have some 'time off' to find out how to do stuff properly and not cause extra work for others. :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 07:27, 14 September 2006 (EDT)

Some more info about image deep links from Rustak Edit

I asked Rustak about why he disabled deep links of images and he apparently was thinking of a particular case, but ended up blocking all of them.

Here's what he said in the e-mail:

"Oh wait, different type of linking. I meant people from other sites linking directly to abc.jpg, not wowwiki linking to other stuff. However, for us linking things, I'll probably start running a bot once a month that will automatically pull in remote images, since that's easy to automate." --Rustak Tue, 5 Sep 2006 19:02:35 -0700

So he was more concerned about deep linking to images rather than using [[Image:something]] or just deep linking to sites off WoWWIki. I'm not exactly sure how he expected that to prevent problems, but I'll follow up. -- Fandyllic 11:24 AM PDT 9 Sep 2006

Right. I've re-added the imagelink explanation to the MediaWiki Quirks page.   --Mikk (T) 21:28, 10 September 2006 (EDT)

Protecting of Server:Chromaggus Edit

Are you sure the protection options allow making an article editable only by older registered users? Is that what "(default)" protection means? The "Block unregistered users" option was the default protection (aka unprotected) before. Has that changed? Do we allow unregistered users to edit? --Fandyllic 5:41 PM PDT 14 Sep 2006

Ummmmm that's what I get for assuming that wikipedia uses default MW 1.7 settings. No, semi-protection does absolutely nothing for us at the moment since it really only protects against editing by unregistered users. But unregistered users can't edit anything to begin with. (I just tested both with a new user). I need to dig around a bit to see what the heck wikipedia is doing because I think blocking edits from completely new users is very worthwhile when an edit war gets hot.   --Mikk (T) 04:26, 15 September 2006 (EDT)
Yeah, something seemed a little off. Hopefully you find the way to get it to protect the way you want and one of us can make it accessible. Otherwise we need to bug Rustak who seems to be trying to figure how to get external deeplink to WoWWiki images disabled without disabling all deep linked images (the current state). --Fandyllic 2:12 PM PDT 15 Sep 2006

Right, LocalSettings.php needs to be tweaked and have:

 $wgAutoConfirmAge = 3600*24*3; // three days

That keeps newly registered users from gaining the "autoconfirmed" right, which I think is what we want. (Gawd, mediawiki documentation isn't what it should be :< ). I've sent this off to Rustak.

  --Mikk (T) 15:00, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

You are? Edit

I know this isn't really helpful, but who are you in-game? I don't meet fellow Bloodhoof-EU-ians that often ;-)

--Tinkerer 16:31, 15 September 2006 (EDT)

"Mikk", in Axiom Knights like i said. I basically haven't played at all since May though so I'm not very surprised you haven't seen me around of late - though I do have a total of 150+ days /played. I've been busy coding mods and fiddling with this wiki :-P   --Mikk (T) 03:34, 16 September 2006 (EDT)
aye, we've (AK) not seen him online for ages. He doesn't even log on to say hi now :'( He did make an attempt to return once, however it lasted approximately one day :-) My main char is James in AK on bloodhoof btw, since my username here isn't entirely clear on that. -- Bambers 07:53, 23 September 2006 (EDT)
Meh. I've been on my way back to gaming lots of times but I keep finding stuff to keep me occupied. If it isn't wiki or coding, it's renovating my house. :< Have I been booted down from officer yet? :-)   --Mikk (T) 08:22, 23 September 2006 (EDT)
Funny you should mention that, you got booted down the other day when we made a 'MIA' rank. Well done on being recognised as a crazy person, long overdue ;-) -- Bambers 09:38, 23 September 2006 (EDT)
Damnit. What does a person have to do to get into the doghouse these days?! ;-)   --Mikk (T) 10:08, 23 September 2006 (EDT)
Well you can't really, the doghouse was renamed to 'Sigh' a little while back :-P -- Bambers 10:24, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

Thanks Edit

Thanks for the heads-up on the Fanfic policy vote-change. --Malakim 18:30, 18 September 2006 (EDT)

User:Smugface the untrustworthy dwarf Edit

You may want to check his contributions, newly registered user, reverted 8 vandal actions. --Adys 07:30, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for catching him. Next time just put these loonies on WoWWiki:Known Vandals and we'll block & revert. Admins can revert changes with single clicks so it's less work for you :-)   --Mikk (T) 07:52, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

Wiki Language Link's Edit

Hello Mikk, thanks for your info. From now on we use language link's to crosslink with wowwiki.com and wikiwow.com. See your template here: Sprache.

Thanks, --Trexxz 13:49, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

cheers --Argantes 18:42, 29 September 2006 (EDT)

Those images.. Edit

Sorry, but I keep giggling hysterically at them. Keep up the great job ;)

--Tinkerer 09:11, 30 September 2006 (EDT)

Great images indeed ^^--K ) (talk) 12:18, 19 October 2006 (EDT)

Category:MMOG Edit

I went ahead and deleted Category:MMOG and related pages. The vote wasn't going anywhere, and it clearly all violated WW:DNP anyway. :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 23:16, 30 September 2006 (EDT)

Although I don't completely disagree with what you did, it violates the trust of an admin. You shouldn't just ignore votes that aren't proceeding quickly enough, you should try to encourage the vote to complete. I hope I don't see this kind of thing too much. --Fandyllic (talk) 6:32 PM PDT 1 Oct 2006
Apologies - I shall try and restrain myself more in future. -- Kirkburn (talk) 21:50, 1 October 2006 (EDT)
You make a good point Fandyllic. Though in Kirkburn's defense, I could have deleted it to begin with for being against WW:DNP rather than starting the vote, so I for one am not upset. But, again, good point from a general standpoint.   --Mikk (T) 03:25, 2 October 2006 (EDT)

Edit

Could you upload an SVG copy of the WoWWiki logo to the Wikimedia Commons? If you need any help doing it, let me know and I can upload it for you. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 23:34, 15 October 2006 (EDT)

Done.   --Mikk (T) 11:13, 16 October 2006 (EDT)
I've added it to the article. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 20:13, 25 October 2006 (EDT)

elinksspell, elinksset Edit

Hey :) Could you (or any other admin) change {{{2}}} into {{{1}}} on the templates {{elinks-spell}} and {{elinks-set}} since they anyways share the same numbers ? Thanks :-) (Sorry for the message, didn't really know whereto put that :p ) --Adys 08:11, 17 October 2006 (EDT)

Oh, I never realized the numbers for those two types were the same. I made the 2nd argument optional now. If not specified, it becomes the same as #1. And, yeah, any active admin's talk page is the right place to bug us about protected pages :-) (Those two wouldn't normally be protected but we've had edit warring on them. Duh.)   --Mikk (T) 11:03, 17 October 2006 (EDT)
Not only edit wars, but frequent accidental changes too :/ Thanks for pointing it out Adys, I hope you're correct =) -- Kirkburn (talk) 11:38, 17 October 2006 (EDT)
