Controversy

There is no need, ever, for controversy to stand in the way of the facts. You're caving into user preasure at the cost of integrity of articles. I've been accepted!!!

I've recently been accepted to all three universities I've applied to for fall semester later this year (two in Hawaii and one in Montana). I have decided to go with Hawaii in Manoa as it actually comes out cheaper and closer to my budget. I will continue to be in the lore team until then, helping as best I can, but can't guerentee how much time I'll have after start going there. I will probably not be carrying my Warcraft collection with me (with exception of the MMO itself), and thus will not be adding new material nearly as much, LOL. If the classes takes up most of my time leaving me little time to work on wowwiki I will step down, allowing someone else to take my position. I'm pure anthro/archaeo myself- since I'm to specialize in the Mediterranean, Hawaii would not have been the best choice, but I imagine the geology of the islands would be perfect for your interests.

LOL. Now that's a story I want to hear the rest of, heh heh, you have piqued my interest.

Cool interests btw. My interests evolved out first an interest in geology specifically in paleontology (back as a wee child), back then I could name nearly every dinosaur someone would show me, LOL. However it moved into interest in Archaelogy, which has been more of a passion to me for years. I enjoyed reading and watching history of archaelogy all the time. So you can say that's been a lifelong passion. I took an earth sciences course in high school, enjoyed it. Once I reached college I've taken a courses in archaelogy and physical anthropology, and currently taking cultural anthropology, and enjoy how various anthropology fields interact. I also took a few courses in geology, and found I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed archaelogy. But more interested in how it relates to way people lived, how they coped with geological forces, what materials they used for their artifacts, where those materials originated, how the land has changed between the time they first lived in an area to the present, etc. Additionally the knowledge of geology and anthropology can also apply to a field of forensics which is also an interest of mine, and one of the possible career choices I may persue (although I have more interest in musueum/field work).

Ya I have to admit I'm a science fan, if I had a long enough life, I have mild interest in other fields for example biology (marine biology specifically), but not certainly not enough to usurp my true interests, :). But I think what draws me to anthropology as a whole is an interest in history, and seeing how cultural histories developed, and this is through a strong interest in the material and artifact history.Baggins 09:55, 17 January 2007 (EST)

Im Back!

Hi there Rage. I dont think you even knew in the first place but ive been more or less away from WoW and WoWWiki since about October. I had many technical difficulties with my WoW and eventually gave up due to lack of help from Bliz, and thus lost my interest in the game and its lore. I consent to the policy in general, but it's important to remember sources here. I'm checking the WoW webiste to see what they say. Probably both capitalized, as "red dragon" is the race and "Red Dragonflight" is the affiliation. Addendum: the Warcraft encyclopedia doen't mention the term "dragonflight", but it does leave the colors lowercase. This implies to me either "Red Dragonflight" or "red Dragonflight". I say lowercase. If its a common enough concept that's pretty broad, then it's like "warlock". But if it refers to a specific instance of it, like game mechanical, a la "Warlock" the player class, then maybe capital. Well, my understanding was that "red dragon" is the species and "Red Dragonflight" is the faction; although WoW's "Brood of Nozdormu", etc, et al, has messed that up. Jeoh, try checking '"Day of the Dragon or the WotA trilogy.

A convention we could adopt is that "Dragonflight" refers to, collectively, all dragons of the relevant color who serve the Aspect's cause (this would help deal with Scales of Sand, Guardians of Time, etc.), but that there are subfactions within them.

While we don't know if renegade dragons exist, one could argue that Alextrasza's children who were raised by the Dragonmaw clan are red dragons, but not members of the Red Dragonflight, as they did not serve their Aspect. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 13:49, 27 January 2007 (EST)

Meeeeh... they may have been raised to be rouge, but Alexstrasza still thinks of them as her children according to what she tells Nekros right before she either eats him or burns him to a porky crisp. Despair

Hi, could you do something with the Despair entry? Once it meant only some RPG creatures, but now Despair is also an epic sword that drops in Karazhan (I gave the source on the Despair's discussion page). At the time I first started playing, I followed the D&D philosophy of evil not being so evil. Now that I (but not my D&Ding friend from the time) know better, I still find him interesting, largely because of his power and his relationship with Kil'jaeden. Those two seem to violate almost every rule of evil written. Ok, I exagerrate, but they are relatively nontypical- for one thing, in a number of high fantasy, the evil warlord is double-crossed by his wizard, who then underestimates the dragon, or the evil wizard is an extension of the warlord. Also, Kil'jaeden displays unusual mercy (albiet for his own reasons), which, though found in other archvillans, is still pretty rare. Also, Kil'jaeden's threat has been quietly looming, never quite there, never quite not; hence, his name is whispered with fear, while "C'Thun", "Illidan" or "Azshara" are shouted. I have never even seen one of the RPG books in person (and I refuse to dish out the cash for a light reading books that cost more than college textbooks- for the price of MoM, I could get five fantasy novels with an eighth of the controversy). Moreover, Baggins maintains that all lore sources are equal, whereas I feel there is a hierarchy. Hence, I am biased towards these books. My lore activities are exclusive to WoWWiki (you'd think I'd be a bit more effective with that). I find the forum system annoying. As for IRC, let's just say I'm still reviewing. The Tyrande and Rouge Bokkeeper issue

If I angered you I must apologize, for it was not my intention to do so. After rewriting practically the entire Shandris article (as you may have noticed) I took a look at the Tyrande article, and to my great despair found that the War of the Ancients section there depicted not the events in Knaak's novels, but the earlier lore, before the retcon. The situation is not Storyline and Alternative storyline (Knaak's), but True storyline (Knaak's) and storyline that's been retconned away. Knaak's version is the correct one, so upon seeing the other depiction in an article as important as Tyrande's, and recalling a notion on the bookkeepers page saying they regarded Knaak's storyline as correct, I assumed the bookkeepers had just missed rewriting that section. Therefore, I did the most resonable thing I could think of; Began correcting it myself. I was going to write a whole new version of that particular section in the Tyrande-article, but hadn't time at the moment, so I left a note saying I would do so within shortly. I had no idea that Tyrande was on your "watch", nor that there were "official channels" to joining the bookkeepers. The whole "rogue bookkeeper"-thing was meant as a joke, and a message that I am continously adding lore-related material to WoWWiki, and would like to join the bookkeeper-order, but did not know how to do so. elemental spirits language

When you release some elemental spirits called, "living fire" in Nagrand they speak in Kalimag, saying "Reth Reth Reth", whatever that means. Yes, I don't know how they physically say "Reth Reth Reth", I have no idea if they have same mode of communication with a mouth or something else... There is always the possibility with spiritual beings that you are hearing something different from what they are saying, or they are causing you to hear something even thought they didn't speak it audibly. I haven't yet played TBC, so I cannot comment on the in-game situation. From the comments of everybody I know (apart from yourself) the "AllianceGood/HordeEvil" doesn't come out as much as Marketing implies. My opposition comes largly from the "evil/sexy" image of the Blood elves. You should note that I am also vehemently opposed to the Night elves being in the Alliance.

Though I'm not opposed to the idea by any means, I'm sorry to admit that I have doubts about you writing such a section. The "evidence" you've discussed (ie, the Naaru) is not valid. The section won't be on naaru horde relations its going to be out the view that Horde has gotten the wrong image in Warcraft,the alliance is now portrayed as saintly, and is commonly represented as the evil side especially in BC.
