Since Oct. 22, Puta20 has made nearly 5000 spam edits. He's hiding website links, messing up formatting, and clogging the history for individual pages and the wiki as a whole. I understand that vandalism will always be a problem, and there will always be corrections to be made, but that's assuming that prompt administrative action will be taken against the offenders. It's futile to try and maintain the integrity of WoWWiki's articles when competing against a bot. I think this wiki could definitely benefit from a couple more admins.--[[User:Aeleas|Aeleas]] 16:14, 4 Nov 2005 (EST)

==Ogg support==
I wish it were that easy =/ Both Puta20 (whom I flubbed up the block for last time and had it expire too soon) and the new one DudaKum are coming in from hundreds of different addresses, so I can't block by IP. I can put in a limit to number of changes in some unit of time, but they're only doing about one change every 1 or 2 minutes; not all that different from, say, someone going through and making a bunch of small spelling corrections. I do agree about needing more admins; however, I've got a new machine for the wiki to move to and I'm going to upgrade to the latest MediaWiki with that move, so I wanted to get that done before doing new sysops. That'll be another week or so.. things are mostly set up, just having some problems with apache on the new machine, but should be resolved soon. [[User:Rustak|Rustak]] 03:03, 6 Nov 2005 (EST)

== Issue with the default skin .css ==

Hi there. In the process of editing some pages, I've noticed that at the bottom of every page, just before the Categories box there is extra vertical space that is usually taken up by the "printfooter" div class, which usually contains the "Retrieved from (link here)" text. This is hidden in the skin, but the space remains. Other skins such as monobook (used at Wikipedia) hide this too, but also remove the space. It's noticeable on articles that use a navigation box on the bottom, such as [[Amplify Magic]] which I just edited. --[[User:Piumosso-Uldum|Piumosso-Uldum]] 16:19, 21 April 2007 (EDT)
:The latest MediaWiki should automatically insert the ''nofollow'' tag in any external links, making what Puta20 is doing pointless. Hopefully he will become aware of that fact. Just reading up on some other [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Anti-spam_Features techniques]; it sounds like it should be possible to block the URLs he is trying to link to from being added to any pages.--[[User:Aeleas|Aeleas]] 13:53, 6 Nov 2005 (EST)

I 've noticed you guys are now part of wikia, where we have a wiki about the upcoming warhammer online game (by EA-Mythic). I was wondering if it will be possible for wowwiki users to edit wikia pages with their current username/password. Either way, I 'd like to invite you and other users to at least take a look to my wiki: your help, suggestions, contributions and knowledge are welcome. I already did much work there. the style is not white as someone said about wikias. Maybe if there is no problem i can add a link to it somewhere in this wiki (at least in my name-page). Here is the link: [http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/ Warhammer Online wiki]. I am not trying to underestimate wow or something. These projects can work together, people can play wow and war, without arguing which one is better.
When using an interwiki link such as <nowiki>[[wikipedia:World of Warcraft|Wikipedia article on WoW]]</nowiki>, it directs you to www.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Warcraft. There is an ongoing discussion on making www. links to wikipedia articles show a multilingual portal, so I would reccommend have interwiki links direct to en.wikipedia.org as opposed to www.wikipedia.org. I have a plea to make. Since you are likely to be around a little more in the next few weeks, we need more admins. Alex and Schmidt are not around all that frequently at the moment, which means the burden is lying on Fandyllic. Today, whilst Fandyllic was busy, we had a awful attack of the vandals which we could barely control (he impersonated fandyllic and went after popular pages and new users). So basically, I'm asking that more are allowed into upper echelons to aid with the safe running of the wiki :) I know who I would suggest, but obviously Fandyllic should be the main person to converse with on this.

But mainly, we ''severely'' need more admins, before fandyllic gets fed up =) Thanks!! -- [[User:Kirkburn|Kirkburn]] 19:03, 25 August 2006 (EDT)

== InterWiki (bis repetita) ==

Hi Rustak,

I sent you an email but I think here might be a better place to contact you. Sorry if I'm spamming you. On this InterWiki system we talked about a few weeks back, I thought maybe I should explain how easy it is to implement.

In the SQL database, there's a table named "interwiki". There are a lot of entries. One of them is "fr", and the cell next to it is empty. Now if you add "http://www.wikiwow.com/index.php/" in that empty cell, people will be able to use the <nowiki>[[fr:]]</nowiki> tag. This will automatically create a link to the french version of the article. For instance "[[Duskwood]]". Assuming you updated the database, I could go to the Duskwood article, and add <nowiki>[[fr:Bois de la Pénombre]]</nowiki>. This would add a "Français" link at the bottom of the left menu, linking to the correct article. Of course, we could do the same for the german wiki, etc.

Now, of course this is a win-win situation for the less-known Wikis (namely French and German ones) ; since I suppose it would increase our traffic. But it would also be nice for visitors. WoWWiki could be a translating tool. They lookup the name in either of the language, and find the translation to the other languages ''via'' the link to the other languages. Maybe there are other advantages I didn't think of, too.

Please let me know how you feel about this :)

Cheers,

: I've set up a {{tlink|lang}} template that attaches itself to the bottom of the page and (by default) assumes that there's a page of the same name on the german and french wikis (possibly redirect pages). If necessary, the links can be tweaked - see the template. For an example, see [[Duskwood]].

: This sort of works, but it's not really usable inside pages, and the external link image is a bit unnecessary perhaps. Interlanguage links would sort that. But at least we've got a start? &nbsp; --[[User:Mikk|Mikk]] <small>([[User talk:Mikk|T]])</small> 14:23, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

:::::Yeah, the icon is nice :) And maybe we can count on the people getting used to scroll to the bottom (or beginning as Kirkburn suggested) if they look for the article in another language. May I start adding this template to articles? Also, I believe that if one day the InterWiki is setup, we can change the template to <nowiki>[[fr:SomethingFrench]][[de:SomethingGerman]]</nowiki>, so we don't have to change the tags on all the pages a second time? --[[User:Furism|Furism]] 12:09, 8 September 2006 (EDT)

Issue with the default skin .css

It's noticeable on articles that use a navigation box on the bottom, such as Peticon-magical Spell nature abolishmagic [Amplify Magic] which I just edited. --Piumosso-Uldum 16:19, 21 April 2007 (EDT) My browser is Firefox, btw --Piumosso-Uldum

Where can I get help with wowwiki errors?

It seems I am getting database errors very frequently, and I'm not sure what the problem is, or where to direct my question.

The error I get is:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
   (SQL query hidden)
from within function "SiteStatsUpdate::doUpdate". MySQL returned error "1213: Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction (localhost)".

For example, going to the factions page, and clicking on Thorium Brotherhood always produces this result, as well as a few other factions, so I can never view the wowwiki pages on certain subjects.

Who do I ask? or Where do I go for help?

Thanks for your help.

All these problems should be fixed as a result of the impending move to Wikia's servers. User:Kirkburn/Sig3 06:18, 13 May 2007 (EDT)

wikia

Hi! I am new user here. I know this is not the right place to discuss some things but i dont want to spoil other wowwiki pages. I dont play wow (I 've tryed it though) but I am an addicted daoc player (4 years).

Here is the link: Warhammer Online wiki. I am not trying to underestimate wow or something. These projects can work together, people can play wow and war, without arguing which one is better.

I'd like to see a respond. I 'll watch this page for changes. thanks Erdimus 08:09, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Doesn't work. Just checked. Have to create a separate acct for there. Pzychotix 08:14, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Yet. I think this is part of the integration; we will be able to edit the other wikis on wikia as well with our usernames. Obviously, if what I said is true, it is not in effect yet. --Sky (t · c · w) 08:16, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Indeed, account integration is upcoming. User:Kirkburn/Sig3 13:11, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
great news, thanks for info. Erdimus 17:44, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

any news about account integration? Erdimus 10:27, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

It's still upcoming, other things have been priority for Wikia atm :) Kirkburn  talk  contr 15:40, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Romanian

Hi, I guess I am one of the latest in the wowwiki team. I saw also the announce regarding other languages porting. My native language is Romanian and I have at least average English skills. So if a Romanian porting project starts you can count on me.{{araxth 19:34, 23 May 2007 (UTC)|Araxth}}

Needs update, and hi!

Some of the information on the attached user page looks like it needs an update. Also, hello from a fellow Wikia wiki founder! Let me be the . . . uh, second to welcome to the community. I've been hanging around since late 2004, so if you ever need to talk to someone who's not on staff, drop me a line. :-) GreenReaper 10:47, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Imagelink

Hi Rustak, I'm an administrator of WoWWiki Italian. How I can set up < imagelink > SGML extension to work also on my localization of the page? Thanks

Could I please be put in the bots group?

Perhaps it would be wiser to speak with Kirkburn, either at his talk page, or on IRC. --Sky (t · c · w) 03:11, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
