Signing

You can sign with User:Xavius/SigX in the stead of User:Xavius/Sig to make just a template appear on the talk page as opposed to all your sig code. You do not have to, but it makes things cleaner.--SWM2448 20:29, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, I was looking for something like this. IconSmall Satyr XAVIUS, the Satyr Lord (Praise · Creations) 17:20, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Are you signing with the template, or just the raw code? You sig seems to eat text after it. No offence, there is nothing wrong with the sig itself, but it eats the text after it. The sigX will make any updates made to it happen to every one of your signings on every page it is used.--SWM2448 17:48, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't know why, I've done what I was told. Also, sometimes the sig coats the rest of the page in blue. Weird. Xavius, the Satyr Lord 17:09, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I can try to fix the sig. In your preferences under User profile, what does the box after Signature say?--SWM2448 17:53, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

(It's blue again!) Strange enough, it says { {SUBST:User:Xavius/Sig}}, (spacing deliberate) but I'm sure it didn't before... Xavius, the Satyr Lord 17:09, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Anyone? Please help? -Xavius again

Think it works now. Xavius, the Satyr Lord 16:16, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

I am sorry for my rude behavior. The template is not a rule, it was just a way to fix all of your signings at once.--SWM2448 22:14, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

No, you're not rude. Sorry if you took it as if I took it as if you were rude. I think I'll go with my current sig options for the moment. And I'm removing the blue parts here. Xavius, the Satyr Lord 17:09, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Ehy Xavius, your sign doesn't work again. Please, fix it :) --N'Nanz (talk) 16:46, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I just saw a talk page you edited before you fixed your sign (Talk:Gamon)) ;) --N'Nanz (talk) 16:51, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Picture of Draka

Can you take a shot of this Draka image from the WoW bestiary and submit it to the wiki? No confusion could then be made.--K ) (talk) 21:58, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

I will do that. Xavius, the Satyr Lord 11:36, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Creating new user templates

If you don't like the design of some of the user templates, nobody will stop you from improving them. You have created some new templates with the same use as other ones, and I think being bold is better than making duplicates of things. I personally think your template designs are cool, and you should share them with the rest of the community! Also, remember to categorize and add them to WoWWiki:List of user templates. --OseTalkz / Contribz 20:15, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Yea, I'd say update them, rather than making duplicates, or just do as I have done, make the the template on the page it's going on, no sense in making a brand new page that would be kept hidden. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 20:24, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
If I overwrite other templates, don't you think that the makers of those templates would dislike that I do that to their work? I know I would. Xavius, the Satyr Lord 10:51, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Nobody will protest if you make improvements. If you're unsure, ask on it's talk page. --OseTalkz / Contribz 17:25, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Who am I to judge if changing something to fit my personal preferences is "improving"? It's like if I painted the Mona Lisa's hair purple because I think it looks better. Da Vinci probably wouldn't like it. Xavius, the Satyr Lord 19:06, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
In the immortal words of Hobinheim: We don't sign our templates 'round these parts. It's a group project. Names tend to shy new editors away from contributing for fear of stomping on other people's work. Hail communism! You do sign your templates (I mentioned this before a bit), but focus on the 'group' part. Change things for the better, then if it is bad people will revert it (You can not revert paint much). Honestly trying to help is not vandalism. People will assume good faith n the spirit of the wiki.--SWM2448 22:09, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
It's just that. I'm not "honestly trying to help" anyone. I'm trying to make my own versions. Since I don't like people tampering with my work because they're "honestly trying to help", I won't do the same to them either. It's not like it's Highlander here. Xavius, the Satyr Lord 12:16, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

In that case, I'd suggest when you make new templates for the purpose of just using them yourself, put them in your user space [[User:WoWWiki-Xavius/<template>], and don't place a category into it, that way it will be (more or less) ignored. That what I basically did for my personal templates... course... Ose took them and added them to the list, but.... what was I saying? User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 04:26, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not making new templates for my own purpose, quite the contrary actually. I just don't want to ruin someone else's work. Xavius, the Satyr Lord 16:04, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Yessesss... precious templatesssss.... musssst take thems from pesky little hobbitsess and add them to the listsss... --OseTalkz / Contribz 20:08, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Timeline

I've only just realised by chance that back in February you asked about the personal timeline I did (see here. For one reason or another, I wasn't alerted to it.

Anyway, BCE is taken from our own dating system, standing for "Before Current Era." Now granted, in many timelines, the start of the current era is, as you said, the opening of the Dark Portal. However, I see this more as a reference by Blizzard to provide a guide to the order of events leading up to WOW, as opposed to being a 'real world' timeline. As devastating as the First War was and the events that followed, I still don't think that Azeroth or any nation for that matter would change their calendar just for that. If there were an 'Age' system like that found in LotR, then perhaps it could work, but to date, there's been no solid evidence of that.

So as such, the timeline is based on the dating of the WC1 manual, the orcs attacking Stormwind in 583. Such numerical dates were continued up to Beyond the Dark Portal, though the timeline of the First War had been reduced. We'll probably never know what Year 0 was on the calendar and I doubt that even Blizzard gave it thought. Still, it's a personal timeline and one that I wouldn't try to put up on a canon wiki due to the presence of "educated guesses" (speculation). Still, it works well for personal reference in any discussions I may have on the issue, considering that I try to make it all encompassing.

Sorry for the late response. Cheers.--Hawki 22:44, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I'd completely forgotten about that! Well, I guess if Blizzard wants us to know what year 0 is, then they'll tell us (if it hasn't been retconned). Xavius, the Satyr Lord 16:02, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Year zero is the start of the first war.--Sandwichman2449 16:04, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but not the year zero we're talking about. Please do read Hawki's post. I am thinking that, since "year zeroes" on earth are (mostly, at least) based on major religious events, perhaps it has something to do with the Church of the Holy Light? It's founding? Images

First of all, thankyou for adding new images to replace old ones. But if you could in the future just upload the new one over the old one rather than just adding a number or slightly changing the name. In otherwords, rather than create Image:Lars2.JPG and place it on the page with Image:Lars.jpg not being used (or marked for deletion), you could just simply go to Image:Lars.jpg and select the option 'Upload a new version of this file'. That way you won't even have to worry about changing the npc's article. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 19:32, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

You're right, sorry, I just thought it safest that way. If you're wondering why I am changing images in the first place, it's for tow reasons mainly: to get images without those green circles beneath the characters, and two, to replace the "Placeholder" images of bot-generated NPC articles. Also, I think NPC images look better from a little angle (see my images), do you agree? Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 08:49, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

You're still not doing it right. g0urra[T҂C] 09:05, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

May have somethign to do with my computer saving images in "JPG" rather than "jpg". No idea how to change this. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 09:07, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
...did you completely ignore what Coobra said above? g0urra[T҂C] 09:27, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Eh, no? I replace images when I upload. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 09:29, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
No, you don't. You upload a new image under a new file name, instead of under an old file name. Youll have to go to the "old" image, select "Upload a new version of this file", and select the new image. g0urra[T҂C] 09:33, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Ah, missed that! I am very sorry, from now on I will only do it that way. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 10:11, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, doesn't work. Something about "wrong extensions", or something. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 10:15, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
That's because you try and overwrite .jpg images with ones that are .png. g0urra[T҂C] 10:17, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
That's because JPGs are all kinda blurry to me. PNGs, however, are crystal clear. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 10:21, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Please do not refer to edits as vandalism when they are not. It is not good faith, and can be rather insulting. The PNG images you are uploading are huge in comparison to the equivalent quality JPG images - this is why they are being replaced. Compare Image:Lanthan_Perilon.PNG and Image:Lanthan Perilon.jpg and then compare the file size. Kirkburn  talk  contr 12:56, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Equivalent quality? The JPGs are, like, half the quality of the PNGs! PNG has much richer and deeper colors compared to the JPGs, which look like they have been coated in a thick layer of dust. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 13:03, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I can barely make out any difference whatsoever - only by switching between the two can you tell. The file size is 59KB compared to 406KB, almost eight times the size. Even if the jpg was saved in higher quality, it would still be drastically lower in file size. I should also point out that having the NPC selected is part of the guidelines for NPC images - see WoWWiki:Image guidelines#Screenshot layout. It would probably be a good idea if you started a discussion on WoWWiki talk:Image guidelines if you think that should change. (Even so, thanks for taking the time to upload screenshots!) Kirkburn  talk  contr 13:09, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
What?! Selected?! An outrage, that's what it is! Those green/yellow/red circles SERIOUSLY detract the overall quality of the image! You bet your account I will start a discussion, and that immediately. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 13:12, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Hehe :) Actually regarding the image quality, I just compared [1] and [2], and I see the issue. The wiki appears to resize JPGs with a really low quality filter. I take back the complaint. Kirkburn  talk  contr 13:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
That is indeed fortunate, I was beginning to wonder if had some kind of hallucinations. I will cease uploading images until a result in the voting has been reached. This "NPC Re-Imaging Project" it has become a kind of hobby project for me (Falconwing Square is almost completed). Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 13:25, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm seeing if we can get the jpg quality increased atm. Kirkburn  talk  contr 13:31, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Since you plan to do this for every NPC with a circle at its feet, you should start using [[Category:NPC screenshots]] and [[Category:Mob screenshots]] in the summary box before uploading the image. And it's not vandalism when it's being fixed to the correct way, if you didn't notice I kept the PNG files in use if they were under 250KB, however if they were just a bit above to where some cropping would put it under that was done to it. Hence why the Sword was cropped out in the outrunner shot. Since you put it back, it will have to become a jpg. Fanart

Xavius, I like a lot of your work, I really do, but WoWWiki is not a hosting service. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 03:05, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I am afraid you gravely misunderstand me. I do not mean to use WoWWiki as a simple hosting service, I upload the images here so others can look at them, just like I upload fanfiction so others can read it. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 13:27, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

In other words, you're using WoWWiki as a complex hosting service (as opposed to a simple hosting service). As I understand it, uploading images so others can look at them is the job of a hosting service, correct me if I'm wrong. You're not in violation of DNP policies, so I'm not taking any other action than mentioning it. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 17:07, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry if I'm behaving like some kind of parasite. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 17:23, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I've seen many a parasite here. You're not one at all (well, your username could be a bit more creative). No, a parasite is one of those things that tries to put their fanfiction in articles, fanart in infoboxes and thinks that "lorelol" is an official term used in "the Outlands." You're certainly not a parasite by my standards, you're more of a satyr. ;-P --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 17:30, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I sense a new term: Satyr - A user using WoWWiki to host Warcraft fan-art. And what's whit my username? Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 18:19, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Having a username that's the same as an in-universe character has been known to distract searches. I'm not sure if yours has, but the problem's bene previously reported.--Ragestorm (talk · contr) 18:25, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Userbox images

When you create userboxes, make sure that the image height is 48 pixels or less. If you make it any higher there will be conflicts with other user boxes, as most of them have a height of 48 pixels. --g0urra[T҂C] 14:11, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
