Northrendcorruptwhale

An undead whale of Northrend. A Maelstrom Leviathan?

Whales are sea mammals, that range from small porpoises up to large undead leviathan whale.Template:CiteTemplate:Cite Some varieties of these seagoing mammals are among the largest animals known. Relatively small whales (such as the orca) can be vicious predators, attacking virtually anything they detect.Template:Cite The tuskarr can point out every kind of whale imaginable and a few that may not be real, and they hunt all of them. Whales can “see” by emitting high-frequency sounds, inaudible to most other creatures, that allow them to locate objects and creatures within 120 feet. A silence spell negates this and forces the whale to rely on its vision, which is approximately as good as a human’s. A whale can hold its breath for a long time before it risks drowning.Template:Cite

Species

Maelstrom Leviathan

Maelstrom's Leviathan also known as Kadum's Leviathan are frightening mutations of whales, leviathans have been spotted numerous times near the Maelstrom. Most seafarers are thankfully unaware that these creatures are undead. Priests are aware that on at least one occasion a leviathan beached itself, spewing out dozens of undead. They fear that leviathans may be under the control of a dark power and beach en masse at some future point.Template:Cite

Porpoise

A small dolphin type whale. Can be summoned by Druids in watery environments as a nature's ally.Template:Cite

Orca Whale

Sometimes summoned by druids. Template:Cite These ferocious creatures, also called killer whales, are about 30 feet long. They eat fish, squid, seals, and other whales. They can be vicious predators.Template:Cite Orcas are seen in WC3. There is a model of an Orca in WoW data files; but is not yet implemented in-game.

Baleen Whale

A large type of whale. Sometimes summoned by druids.Template:Cite They are plankton-feeding whales between 30 and 60 feet long, such as gray, humpback, and right whales. These massive creatures are surprisingly gentle. If harassed or provoked, they are as likely to flee as they are to retaliate.Template:Cite

Cachalot Whale

Cachalot whales are one of the largest whales in the seas. Sometimes summoned by druids.Template:Cite Also known as sperm whales, these creatures can be up to 60 feet long. They prey on giant squids.Template:Cite

In Wrath of the Lich King

Wrath-Logo-Small This section concerns content related to Wrath of the Lich King.

Yet even their enemies marvel at the tuskarr's prowess and fearlessness in catching some of the most dangerous creatures in Northrend's frigid waters, including whales and giant squid. Not even the unnamed leviathans that lurk in the ocean's depths are beyond the tuskarr's reach.

Speculation

Questionmark-medium
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

Since Tuskarr hunt Whale it is speculated they could appear in Wrath of the Lich King which is in the icy continent of Northrend which has lots of water in it, there is also a drawing of a tuskarr with a dead chopped up whale by it. Whale meat could also be food in Wrath-Logo-Small, and whales might be used as a mount, but Blizzard has said there will be no mount skill level thus no new mounts. However, whales could be used in quests as alternative means of transportation, e.g. to islands or underwater dungeons. There is also concept art of an undead whale. More proof is seen that there is an orca model viewable in the WoW model viewer.

Also a Wrath-Logo-Small picture shows an undead whale.
