Iron Chef is an achievement that requires the character to learn 200 cooking recipes.
Locations
- See the main article cooking recipes for detailed information about where to find every cooking recipe.
Strategy
As of The Shattering (23 November 2010) 199 recipes (195 for new characters) are available to players.
Max your cooking skill so you can learn the most difficult recipes. At 425 cooking skill, only a few Dalaran recipes are still green and yellow, so you may need to buy extra [Northern Spices].
Two recipes are only available after completing Guild Achievements:
- [Recipe: Broiled Dragon Feast] requires Set the Oven to "Cataclysmic"
- [Recipe: Seafood Magnifique Feast] requires That's A Lot of Bait
The remaining recipes are available to everyone. To find and learn them:
- The add-on AckisRecipeList can be used to track your progress
- Learn any remaining recipes from the cooking trainer
- Complete cooking daily quests and fishing daily quests:
- 6 random drop recipes from the Shattrath cooking dailies (although the two rare ones also randomly drop from the Dalaran dailies)
- 1 random drop recipe from the Shattrath fishing dailies (also now a possible reward for the Shattrath and Dalaran dailies)
- 24 recipes from the Dalaran cooking dailies
- 28 recipes from the Stormwind / Orgrimmar cooking dailies

Removed recipes
The ability to acquire new copies of four recipes was removed in Patch 4.0.3a. Unused copies were not deleted from player inventories and may still be traded or sold on the auction house. Prior to the patch, the Chops and Tea recipes were already worth many thousands of gold in the auction house. This means that there are currently only 196 recipes reasonably available to new characters who do not, or cannot, pay the new market rates for these recipes.
- [Recipe: Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops] was available from the AQ quest chain
- [Recipe: Thistle Tea] was available in a non-BoP version prior to Patch 1.3.0
- [Recipe: Kaldorei Spider Kabob] was available from a Teldrassil quest
- [Recipe: Tasty Lion Steak] was available from a Southshore quest
Patch changes
- Hotfix (2010-12-04): [Recipe: Feathered lure] which was purchasable but unlearnable, removed from vendors; making the total number of recipes available one less than required for the achievement.
- Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Achievement added, along with new recipes bringing the total available to 200 (196 for new characters) recipes.
Bugs
A confirmed bug reduces the count by one, as an unspecified recipe may not always be accurately counted. This was confirmed by a GM. (see discussion)
For some players, the achievement system shows a total recipe count one or two higher than the actual number known. This would enable those players to receive the achievement at 198 or 199 recipes. A reasonable explanation is that the system counted the two cookbooks that used to be required, and thus gave +1 or +2 to the count depending on whether the player was also affected by the confirmed bug mentioned above.
While technically not a bug, Wowhead lists more "recipes" than actually exist since:
- 6 are cooking training levels (apprentice, journeyman, expert, artisan, master, and grand master)
- 5 are repeated Pilgrim's Bounty recipes (since they each have Horde and Alliance versions)
- 1 is Campfire

Trivia
Iron Chef (Japan), Iron Chef America, and Iron Chef UK are popular television series about famous and noteworth chefs competing against each other for the title "Iron Chef". The two chefs with the most wins on Iron Chef America—Bobby Flay and Mario Batali—have cooking NPCs—Robby Flay and Bario Matalli—named after them for the Stormwind cooking dailies.
