The Windrunners are a prominent high elf family. Their residence was Windrunner Village, which can be found in what is now known as The Ghostlands.

The most notable Windrunners are the three sisters, Alleria, Sylvanas, and Veressa. Alleria Windrunner, and the rangers under her served the Alliance during the Second War and were part of the expedition into Draenor. Her younger sister, Sylvanas Windrunner, served as Ranger General of Silvermoon (leader of all high elven forces) during both the Second and Third Wars. Vereesa Windrunner was instrumental in the freeing the dragon-queen Alexstrasza.

Many consider the Windrunner family as the most tragic family in warcraft lore. Several members of the family were killed by the orcs during the Second War, including the sisters' parents, their youngest brother Lirath, along with numerous relatives of varying proximity. This prompted Alleria to join the Alliance Expedition in order to avenge them, which she later disappeared with. The rest of the family was one of the hardest hit by the Scourge invasion into Quel'thalas.Template:Cite Sylvanas was killed by Arthas and raised as a banshee in his service, later becoming Banshee Queen of the Forsaken. Their grandfather had to battle his own son, their uncle, after he was turned into an undead. A younger brother was torn to pieces by their older brother who was then himself burned with the rest of the Scourge by elven resistance fighters.

Sylvos Windrunner

Sylvos Windrunner is used as a random name for a blood mage hero in Warcraft III, fueling speculation that there may be a relative that has not been brought into the storyline yet. Since Lirath was referred to as the "youngest brother", it may be assumed that he was not the only male sibling, however it is unknown whether Sylvos is sibling, cousin or other relation.
