Warlocks causing Global War...

Ive been wondering, if a Warlock can just pull something from another planet and enslave it thus. wouldnt the homeworld be a bit annoyed? or.. Majorly.

Think about it, your the leader of a planet, and all your people just keep vanishing. wouldnt you wanna do find out where there going? and get them back? and kill all those responsible?

To drag this a bit more off topic, CFC's are more related to ozone problems, though they are greenhouse gases as well. (All that fire and fel energy does seem likely to produce nitrogen oxides, bring in carbon moxide and dioxide, methane from the decay and diseases they bring, etc., as well as cause other pollution issues from ozone and other odd gases produced. Though this all assumes warcraft world would have the something like earth chemistry, which if up for Metzen and such to decide.)
To actually keep this slightly on topic, though, it isn;t really explained, but My guess is if it were explained in more detail, the story would either be that there are an enormous amount of "wild" demons that are what get summoned (Some demons would be left behind, or escape, from the burning legion on different worlds, or into the twisting nether), and/or that the legion assumes that warlocks will in general be working with their goals, so won't be paying too much attention and won't worry too much, and/or that the legion has something resembling bureaucratic issues that prevent it from keeping track effectively of demons that get stolen away from it by warlocks.Minionman 16:13, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually, what happens is the voidwalker goes to bed as normal, then gets pulled to Azeroth. A few days later he reappears and tries to tell everyone what's happened. He's publically derided for his tales of otherworldly powers and kidnap... --Nevore 19:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Did the voidwalker get probed by a Gnome Warlock :P? I get the idea, it tracks back from the first invasion of Azeroth due to the Well of Eternity and misuse, but in this case more of a repercussion for kidnapping sentient life of another planet! :User:WoWWiki-Kaiku/sign 16:11, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Is there anything in the game that makes players attack you?

Reason being i was in a raid group heading to Orgimmmer so we can all die in a realy unorganized group. when an orc runs past screaming about some hacking thing.

Is there anything that can make this bot attack me so i can kill it? im sure nobody would mind XD

If you hunt around through the seasonal toys, you get the wands that turn you into halloween things like pirates. Also I don't remember how, but I swear you can turn into a snowman. If you want your mount to get in on the fun, it can be a reindeer. Non-holiday stuff includes Inv potion 83 [Noggenfogger Elixir] turns you into a couple of things like a skeleton. And the Inv misc monsterhead 01 [Deviate Fish] (gotta fish and cook) turns you into a pirate and a ninja. I'd think up more but I gotta run. How to begin raiding as a guild?

Hi, I'm a level 67 warrior, and the leader of a guild known as "The War Council" on the Aerie Peak Realm (Horde side). I, along with many of my fellow guild members are fast approaching, or have just reached level 70. My guild was founded with the view that many others are too narrow in focus, I wanted to create a casual guild that did everything the game had to offer, pvp and pve, raids and quests, and had fun while doing it. So far we've done almost everything with alarming effeciency, we're known as a fun party guild, and we're widely disliked by the alliance whom we frequently battle. However as we all approach the level cap the hardest part reveals itself, that of raids.

There exist many raid guilds for the horde on my server, most of which are obsessed purely with keying for and running Karazhan. Only 2 horde guilds on my server have even passed SSC to my knowledge (and according to boss kill tracking sites). For my guild, we for the most part are not raid experienced, and therefore wish to experience endgame 60 raids as well as doing the endgame 70. We have hosted a few events called "Raid Training Camps" where we try our best to use our combined knowledge to educate each other on what we feel is important to know in raids, and the differences between 5 man PuGs and raids. We have just now begun our first guild wide concerted effort in getting Onyxia Attunement which has thus far been a success, showing we have the teamwork needed for raiding.

However beyond this, I am very interested in knowing how other raid guilds got their start? We are more of a casual family type environment guild that just happens to have a large number of players interested in raiding. I don't wish to sacrifice our casual laid-back style, but I do want to have a chance at going as far as Black Temple and becoming a well reputed and successful raid guild. I find it hard to get such advice from my server community since a very large number of guilds come and go every month with the intent to become "a successful raiding guild" and we're just viewed as "wannabe underdogs".

So can anyone give me any advice on how to proceed with becoming a powerful raiding guild? I'm curious as to how those in high end raid guilds learned to become successful in raiding and such? We're not founded on the purpose of raiding, we are a family, and we want to experience the endgame with our family, but we all have to become prepared for it together, I welcome any advice anyone has for us.

-- Vicera 11:31, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

If you're family, you shouldn't have much difficulty working together, and you need all that family of yours to be experienced with all the spells their classes have and know the circumstances under which to use them, and you need to know tactics about the bosses, which you'll find on this site. There's no other way to gain experience rather than actually PLAY the game and learn, slowly but steady. And I forgot so sign >.< Bajo 14:22, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Keep in mind that most of the successful raiding guilds out there are not casual and fun guilds. They take raiding pretty seriously which is how they get to the top in the first place. They are selective on who are in their raids, so that the players are good and committed. My current guild is one like yours in its philosophy is and they're stuck currently on raiding just Kara weekly (due mainly to always having different people in a raid). They need to get an allied guild to help them do others like Gruul's or even to venture into SSC.
The guild my bf is in, on the other hand, is in one of the top guilds on our server. And they have mandatory raiding requirements and raid 5 days of the week, with the other 2 days been optional ones (mostly to get their alts geared to help if needed). Missing a raid is detrimental to you staying in the guild. Not as fun an environment, but that way they have the same people raiding constantly so that they know each other's limitations and play style, which makes their raids way efficient. When they recruit they either take someone in who is well geared so they know that person can handle the instances they're raiding, or they take someone on a test run and deliberately screw up so they know that person can handle their class.
Also be careful of those who would only use your guild as a stepping stone to a better guild. They'll come, take your loot, and then apply to other guilds. Those always suck.  ;)
So you might want to reconsider what you want your guild to be. Fun and casual, more often than not, does not lead to a powerful raiding guild, unfortunately. =( Try seeing how your guild would react to not only doing the fun instances like ZG/MC/Ony, but also with at least setting aside a day for the whole guild to work on some of the BC instances. (And like you saw, the strats floating around on sites such as this one is great for helping guild members know what they have to do before going in)--User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 04:17, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
All I would add is... what do YOU want out of WoW? Sassy mentions it, but I'd like to stress it: Raiding "seriously" is a different kind of "fun", and is not for everyone. Raiding gets you into challenging fights that you wouldn't otherwise see. But the downside is that it also limits you to repeating those fights past the point they are novel. Add the risk (over time, the certainty) that today's Obsessed-over, Top Rung gear may be tomorrow's "I wasted time for that?", and you may find yourself enjoying the game less over time.
... or you may enjoy the game more, having gear you know that only a small minority of the population has. It all depends. --Eirik Ratcatcher 02:02, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
I have ultimately decided the best solution. We have split our guild in half, a division based upon those who play casually and those who wish for endgame. We have formed a seperate guild that is still allied with our former (and shares resources) but is specifcally endgame oriented to better pool our resources and efforts towards those goals. Since we've already established a strong family type environment, we're applying the same principles to our raiding guild, by making it where we try to be as fair as possible without requiring people to attend 10 million raids to be eligible for great gear (Doing Loot Council style distribution). I think ultimately we had to create our own endgame environment before we had our members leave for one. You can get good gear anywhere, but a family is hard to find. Vendors - Do they reset?

I recently acquired an item that had gem sockets and i wanted to purchase some gems to use in the new item. I did some research on this site and found what I was looking for (great site). I went to the vendor and he did not have any gems for sale. I was wondering if vendor's reset and how often? Please help!

-- Marielos 13:51, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

It's not that the vendors reset, its that the item becomes available again. And it varies on what the item is...there is no default cooldown time for the limited amount sold items. Some could take 24hrs, others just 1 hour, a few even just 10mins. Only way to know the actual cooldown time of the item is to buy it, and wait by the vendor rechecking every 10mins till it reappears. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 19:27, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Yar, those items are called "limited supply" items. And you can tell what those are by a number indicating how much of them a vendor has to sell. As an example there are a ton of profession recipes/schematics/etc around the world that also do this. Limited sale recipe. Perhaps we should create other pages that indicate more of these items? Since there's a lot of items that are also limited, like your gem. --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 04:00, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Night Elf Origin Theory

I once read somewhere, I believe in the main site lore section, that it is rumored that Night Elves are descended off-shoots of Trolls. Considering the presence of trolls in ancient times, and actually preceeding that of the night elf empires, this theory is actually a possibility. However other than the short stub, I have found no source of information to possibly substantiate this claim (other than it was posted on the official WoW site) or to disprove it. I'd love to see if anyone could possibly reference me to pages relating to this rumor, and help me try to discover the truth behind this. I'm sure pvp Night Elves will hate finding out they share origions with trolls.

-- Vicera 23:54, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

PvP Night Elves who roleplay to the extreme, yes. Brann Bronzebeard claimed that's true at some point I just can't place it... As it is nothing more than speculations and occasional mentions of it here and there, I'd prefer you or anyone else not to post it in the Night Elf page Bajo 20:15, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Were you referring to Troll/Elf_Lineage for the page you found here? Other pages you might want to read are Warcraft forums, Tooskatribe, dlc (that last one has a cool pic you might like). Lots of pages online doing the speculating with the same information on this site. They just can do it with a little more flair since they're personal websites. =D --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 08:42, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
The only official lore that can be used to support this theory is here: Trolls and Night Elves? and Night Elves and Trolls section Night Elves encyclopedia entry. These two sources are virtually identical, but add no specific evidence. Any speculations in the forums (unless by a blue or Blizzard sanctioned sources:BlizzPlanet, WoWInsider, etc.) or speculative personal pages are not valid sources. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:22 AM PST 15 Aug 2008

-- Sadoangel 15:06, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Trolls precede Night Elves, and the first Night Elves developed around the shores of the first Well of Eternity. The intense magic of the Well mutated the Trolls into the Night Elves. This is just common sense, since Trolls came first, and they have similar characteristics (ears).

The graphics of what? WoWWiki? WoW? --SWM2448 18:41, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

graphics of wow—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Encelade (talk · contr).

You shouldn't expect graphics to rival that of 7th generation platforms (PS3, XBOX 360, etc.) since the development of WoW pre-dates them. The graphics are in my opinion fine, they have a very stylized look, which is what was intended. The graphics if you turn the settings to maximum (which if you're a fan of PC games with higher quality graphics I am sure you can handle) then WoW can be gorgeous. If you're running on a low end machine where you must disable several video settings for performance reasons it may not be as sharp or beautiful. The main thing is WoW isn't about graphics, it's about gameplay. If I want outstanding graphics, I'll watch a movie like LotR, in a game I could care less if the character was a colored ascii symbol, it's all about how it plays, not how it looks. The only issue I dislike about the graphics is one that plagues most 3D RPGs, Clipping (Especially since I'm pretty sure 0.01% of gear in WoW were designed to look GOOD on trolls) Vicera 14:48, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
While I respect your opinion, what do you want us to do about it? WoWWiki is not a forum.--SWM2448 18:52, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
I think the graphics render pretty damn good on my computer. What kind of graphics card do you have? --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 20:11, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
I guess he doesn't understand what stylized is. WOW didn't aim for realism because it would take away from game play. I look at it this way, people who don't play WOW because of the graphics are not people you really want to play WOW with. Its obvious they aren't clued into what makes a game good User:Sharlin/Sig 13:48, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

WoW's graphics isn't it's strong side, really. WoW relies on good interface, great surroundings, good environment, countless players that you can interact with and more. Even the graphics can be absolutely GORGEOUS with a very good graphics card and high resolution and details, for example Eversong Woods, or Nagrand, or Un'Goro. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bajo (talk · contr).

  • Sure, it would look gorgeous; but it'll be unplayable on 70% of the world's computers. Melaisis 21:15, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Forum Ban?

I dont often post in the official forums, but I returned to them after not visiting them for some months (to idle my time during server maintennance) and I discovered a message saying I had been permanently banned from posting in the forum for allegedly posting a link to a hack/cheat site. First of all I dont recall posting a link to any site at all, and secondly I do not use, condone, or reccomend the use of hacks/cheats as they lessen the experience and cause unbalanced gameplay especially in an MMO. I have tried searching for a way to contact blizzard, but I cannot find the "relevant" contact information regarding this request. Is there any way I could possibly hope to contact blizzard and lift this permanent ban from the forums?

Have you searched for the postings under your characters' names? Perhaps you can find out which link you posted they consider a hack. Their code of conduct page shows that you get no warning, just a ban for what you said happened. There are a couple of e-mail addresses at the bottom if you'd like to inquire a GM/or the forums dudes about what happened. Also, like Coobra mentioned, the support site has an e-mail form which you can use to inquire as well. Might want to choose "Account Action Inquiry" or something to that effect. Good luck. =/ --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 22:01, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the link to the support site, I have appealed my ban and hopefully I'll get some resolution from it. I didn't bother to attempt to search for the offending post as most likely given the nature of the alleged reason I was banned, the post in question would have been removed or edited. Thanks again Vicera 17:58, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I just wanted to let you know that there are also other options in case you feel that Blizzard wrongly banned you. It's pretty much impossible to get Blizzard to reconsider or even discuss bans with their customers. This is partially understandable since most people that are banned (wrongly or not) will usually contact Blizzard about it and Blizzard of course does not have the time or motivation to filter out the few people that were actually wrongfully banned. The only realistic way that I know of to get your account unbanned is to file an official complaint against Blizzard Entertainment and/or Vivendi Games at the Better Business Bureau. The BBB will then take your complaint and send it to the correct people at Blizzard or Vivendi and they are usually way more effective in getting information or at least some type of response then if you attempt to contact them directly. Further information and complaint filing system can be found at www.bbb.org
I hope that helps you (and anyone else that was wrongfully banned). -- Somebody

I’m a girl - surprise! And I am totally in to WoW - ofc ;) (have been that for about 2 years now ) I am also making a lot of art - with modelviewer and the actual game as inspiration. NOW! ... The question is just: "How many girls play WoW?"

And I have to add. ...: "How many girls - that like their looks, so much that the use a lot of time in front of the mirror, do you know that play WoW ??"

Because I am apparently not looking like some typical WoW-Girl-Gamer... xD my bf is also playing lots of comp. - and that is also a little non-typical - if you ask a lot of gamers ;)

(Specifically when I go to any netcafé - all of the boys are looking at me - and questioning me a lot!)

So... plz help me find out if I am a little alone here ;)

(and btw - sorry if there is a lot of incorrect spelling - I’m Danish ;) - sry)

A little theory about the Burning Legion and Malygos in WOTLK.

Today, I was fondly remembering the Highlord Kruul massacres outside the major cities just before TBC. I had a quick glance at the page, and I notice the quote about him looking for the Aspect Shards. As people to their dismay discovered, Highlord Kruul did not camp out in the Tainted Scar where Kazzak was, but instead he just disappeared.

So here's my silly speculation. Since Kruul probably grabbed Burning Legion reinforcements from Outland before the Alliance and Horde siezed the Dark Portal, perhaps he went on a trek to Northrend to fight against the Lich King? And whilst there, he discovers the Aspect Shard of Malygos, whatever it is... which somehow actually lets him -control- Malygos, or possess him, or something similar. From here, he forces Malygos to declare his 'war on magic users', which I seriously doubt Malygos would normally do considering the odds are stacked against him, especially since the Red Dragonflight are opposing him. With Malygos under his command and thus a host of Blue Dragons, it'd be a nice concept of continuing the Burning Legion storyline in Wrath of the Lich King, considering that Kil'jaeden doesn't seem to die in the Sunwell Plateau raid.

Of course, this is just a lore idiot speaking. I haven't read any of the novels, merely just the information on the Wiki. Any thoughts on this, or am I just a raving fool? -- Althallen 18:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I can't claim to be a true savant on the lore (although I apparently surpass anyone in my guild) but I think the major plots involving the Burning Legion campaign are intended to be finished as of 2.4. The Wrath of the Lich King seems more aimed at focusing back on the loose ends left over by Frozen Throne (which I haven't played but am well aware of the story arc). I do think that there will be some world event on scale or larger than that of the Opening of the Dark Portal, however I think it will be wholly relevant to the major campaign in WotLK, which is that of the battle vs. The Scourge. I was not yet into Warcraft at the time of the BC release and so unfortunately have yet to experience a major event such as Dark Portal or AQ gate opening, but I think the best way to view Kruul, while no canonical evidence exists to support the rumor, is that he was "killed off" during the assault on the Dark Portal by Horde and Alliance forces, thereby severing the Legion's commanders in Azeroth. It would seem to me from the standpoint of the Horde/Alliance that this would be the most logical explanation, as any army would secure first their homeland from invaders before staging an assault against their holdings elsewhere. While pockets of Legion still exist in Azeroth, they are for the most part lacking true leadership and thus fear of their mobilization takes a backseat worry to that of the large contingent of Legion forces in Outland. Farming for Epic Mount (ground)

So, I'm playing a level 61 shaman, and I have yet to get my epic mount. I intend to get a Black War Wolf (I need 10 more WSG marks, but that'll be easy to get). The training should cost about 480g (600g for training normally, with 20% discount as I'm Revered with Orgrimmar). So, I've been farming. Ah, but farming what? Thorium. Can I get a massive 'duh' here? But you know the Burning Steppes. Though it's the place where you'll get the most thorium, if you come before ~9:00 PM you're likely to get beaten by the competition. It's a tooth-and-nail scrabble for the nodes, often with opposing factions whooping you for stealing their ore (Guilty as charged. What'll you do, bring me to Orgrimmar so they can promote me?). I once killed the same rogue 15 times, in the same spot, at the same level, at the same times. 90 honor at that. He just kept on coming--I think he was a gold farmer. But I'm getting off-track. Simply, I've just reached 300 skill in Mining. Should I go to Outland to farm Fel Iron? Naturally, I've been there before, and seen how much of it there is--but the mobs are everywhere, opposition from Alliance is even GREATER, and Fel Iron sells for less than thorium (30g/stack as opposed to 40 for Thorium). Will it be worth it? I usually get two-three stacks of Thorium every two hours in the Steppes, in addition to massive amounts of mithril and dark iron. ...not that it matters, as I've already got 420g off of other endeavors, including buying and relisting thorium in bar form for a profit of 10g/stack...but for future reference, would it be better to go to Outland instead of fighting desperately in the Steppes? Thanks.

-- Shinsen 20:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

If I understand correctly, you're just farming thorium for money? If that's the case, please stop. =) Doing quests and leveling in the outlands will give you tons of money not to mention xp. And then while you're there you can be mining fel iron and then later adamantite/khorium. And with those mines you get motes, which also sell well. By the time you're 70 you should also be able to afford your first flying mount just by questing. =) Good luck! --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 06:46, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Epic ground mount. As per the subject. A flying mount will be no problem if I mine thorium, or better yet Fel Iron and Khorium and Adamantium. --Shinsen 13:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
If you quest and don't spend any money besides training spells, you should have you epic land about when you're finishing up Zangar. User:Tekkub/Sig 10:40, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Exactly.
I can't wait that long >.<
It's been two days mining thorium and I have 420g. Welll...I will have 420g if my investments pay off. I'm on a trip w/o internet for the Easter Holidays. I've got a crapload of ore listed, along with ores I smelted into bars and relisted for a 10g profit. Added with a few OL greens, dense stone, and jewels, I will have around 420g when I get home. I don't know what you did for your epics, but 2g for an hour-long quest isn't appealing when I could get 40g's worth of ore in the same amount of time, not counting the countless mithril. But none of the comments answer the question--which would be better? Should I go to Outland where the mobs are stronger (yet the ore is less contested), or should I stay in the Steppes where the ore's more contested but worth more gold? I AM going to mine for my epic. I've found it to be at lest 10x as effective as questing, and though it may be dependant on how progressive you are, this is what I am going to do, but I'm mining. So, what do you think? --Shinsen 13:58, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Then it sounds like you have it all in hand. If mining thorium works for you, then by all means, continue. But I think our point was that at some point you're going to have to level to 70 anyway. And questing to 70 will net you enough money to buy your flying epic, which means you'll have the money to buy your epic ground. You'll also have the opportunity to mine the Outland mines, which may not be as pricey, but like you noted, aren't as camped. So it's really a toss-up for you. Go with what works. =) --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 02:58, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

(Outdent) Also, one other thing. Not sure what it's like on your server, but on mine un-smelted thorium/mithril are more sought after because they can be prospected.  ;) Just something else to think about. --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 03:01, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice, but on my server the bars are worth more, by about 10g. I make a crapload of money just smelting ore I buy (50g a day on a good day). People are just too lazy, I guess, and there aren't too many jewelcrafters on my server.
However, since I didn't play JC very long, I didn't know the prospecting thing. Thanks for the information! --Shinsen 17:12, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Asked my bf what he would sell as a miner. He told me Adamantite sold the best for him period. Because Thorium people only buy while they're leveling (although granted they do buy it), but Adamantite, people are constantly buying (Leveling blacksmithing, weightstones for others, prospecting, etc) and unsmelted. So might want to look into that too. But again, that requires you to level your mining as well as yourself.  ;) Or you might want to consider a loan program with a guildie. Where you just borrow the money from them since once you get the mount the faster you'll be able to get the ore you'll be selling. --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 07:30, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

What about the good, old 'Iron Fishing Rod' trick off the shores of Desolace, eh? 35-50 gold a pop on the more populated servers. Melaisis 21:19, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Not so much anymore, with Inv fishingpole 01 [Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole] so easy to get... I was trying to sell my big iron when I got that to replace it, and nobody bought even at 10g. --Azaram 04:18, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Troll Regeneration and Hitting 70

I don't want to spam the whole page with questions, so I'll combine two separate ones in this posting.

First off, I am a troll warrior (Prot Tank). I have noticed Trolls are not the most popular choice for warrior tanks, Tauren being the primary choice, and orc coming in second (at least on my server). I am assuming this has to do with the racial abilities. Tauren have better initial tanking stats (although I think at lvl 70 after gear the differences are negligible) and the war stomp. Orcs have bloodfury as well as expertise in axes (second most popular choice for tanks). Even Undead have the resistance and immunity trait that can benefit tanks. As far as I can tell the majority of troll racials are more beneficial to a hunter class (bow and thrown specialization and +damage to beasts). Berserking allows me to get a slight edge during boss pulls since it gives me slightly increased threat generation per hit (although I don't think it has any effect on global cooldowns). So the one racial trait I am left with is Regeneration, which is a racial trait I am very interested in. A lot of people I believe overlook the potential benefit of in-battle regeneration, but even at high levels I can witness a significant bonus given. My question is how much bearing does spirit have on affecting the regeneration racial? And if it does have a bearing would it be worthwhile to potentially sacrifice other tank stats for spirit to increase in-battle regeneration?

For my second question, I am as of this writing lvl 69 (12 bars left, woot!) and this is my highest level character to date. As I hit 70 there's a huge amount of money I will need to farm for various purchases (Gear, Enchantments, Flying Mount, etc.) Throughout my levelling I had been arms/fury, and only recently switched to prot tanking spec (although I've read extensively and talked to other raiding level prot warriors, so I know how to play one). One thing I know for sure is solo farming pretty much ANYTHING in Outland as a prot warrior sucks big time because the kill rate is so slow and the downtime between battles really cuts into you. I've decided to collect the materials for crafting the Flame Guard set since my guild has decided they wish to farm Onyxia and Molten Core(need 10 more Primal Fire and 14 more Primal Water) after a few frustrating attempts at farming I drew the conclusion that with my low damage output and the competition on mote farming, that I'd be better off farming the gold for the primals instead. I have decided that it's in my guild's best interests if I get my 70 tank gear before focusing on getting my flying mount. So with my spec in mind, I am a 335 enchanter, and have one free profession slot (I have Blacksmithing but never leveled it very far), what extra Profession (other than mining) can help me gain some money rather quickly? I also would be interested in knowing the best ways I could go about farming money for my tank gear? I'm not as fond of running instances with others to farm money (I like to solo for gold, it just makes farming way easier in my opinion). So can anyone give me any pointers?

Also in a related note, I have figured up that once I have my initial tanking set, I will have apx. 200 fire resistance, is this adequate to tank Onyxia, BWL, and MC?

-- Vicera 11:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I won't tackle the first, I have a few sources to go check but most people don't care about racials unless they provide some kind of to hit bonus. As far as the second, what profession to make money. Any gathering profession makes money. Some gathering skills benefit from flying mounts more than others. The key to a gathering profession is to know where the items your farming spawn and then having a efficient route in patrolling them. In other words, plug-ins like Cartographer and Routes will make any harvesting profession worthwhile. Of the end product professions only Engineering is cheap to level compared to its potential payoff, by potential I mean mote farming (325+ engineering).
As a warrior I would get a gathering profession. Mining will be a bit easier in 2.4 as smelting will provide more skill ups than it does now. Mining opens up the door for motes of fire and motes of earth. Herbalism is nice as well but only motes of life come off of plants but later on you can get fel lotus drops which are needed for flasks. User:Sharlin/Sig 11:57, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
After discussing it with a few of my 70 friends, I decided the best route would be to go with Skinning, as it requires no cost to train beyond the initial training deposit, and high level leather (Clefthoof Leather) sells for a substantial sum on my server, with about a day's work I can level my skinning easily up to level to skin high level mobs, and so I feel this is the best route for me to pursue short-term until I find alternative income sources. I had done mining before and had it up to 270 before I dropped it for enchanting (which is now 335), so I didn't want to go through the effort required to level it back up to that level. Thank you for your input however :) Vicera 17:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
As far as skinning goes, check your server's AH to see what Inv misc leatherscrap 11 [Heavy Knothide Leather] sells for in comparison to regular (remembering that it takes 5 reg to make 1 heavy). Because HKL is used in the armor patches, I used to throw them up in the AH in 4's for ridiculous sums of money, and people would buy them. Because it was cheaper than buying a full stack. =) Although having had all the professions... I would agree with Sharlin and say that Mining made me the most money.  ;) Herbalism coming in a close second. --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 21:31, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Well skinning doesn't require you to make things, so I guess that is what you meant. It also requires you to kill things or be around people doing so who also don't skin. As such it is more time consuming. User:Sharlin/Sig 10:23, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Regarding your first question: I can hardly imagine Spirit being worth it for any Troll. Health regen formulas can be found here. According to this page, every point of Spirit gives your warrior an additional health regen of 0.0275 hp/sec, which is close to nothing. I have done the calculations for my characters, and the result was that the regen was ridiculously low. Besides, the main benefit of the Tauren's 5% hp boost is not that you can survive longer, because a small heal would make up for that already; instead, it's the buffer it provides. Troll's regeneration is steady and the additional 500-1000 health in a 10 minutes battle does in no way make up for the sacrificed stats. Investing the budget in stats that increase your DPS (and hence your threat/second) allows your group/raid to do more overall DPS, which reduces the duration of the battle and probably provides more extra health (due to a shorter battle) than any amount of Spirit could.
IMHO, Regeneration is the worst of all racials, and has absolutely no uses, be it in PvE, PvP, solo or group play. It's mostly a remnant of early WoW. Not without a reason the Druid's and the Shaman's in-combat regen providing talents were removed from the game. --bfx 13:38, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
I had thought to ask since in combat with lower level mobs (like 5 levels or below) I tend to recover about half of my lost HP by the end of the combat.... on mobs 15 or more levels below me I actually regenerate more health than I lost in-combat, although I think that by looking at the tables that spirit won't really increase this regeneration very significantly above the base regen. I could probably boost it by a possible 5% using spirit gear and enchants, although this would seriously hinder my tanking skills. I thought perhaps if I could boost my regen to a potential 10% per minute then sacrificing a few tank stats might be worth it. In the end I guess I need to accept that troll racial skills are not best befitting a warrior, although as I read somewhere before, in the long run you should choose the race you want to play, and as trolls are my preferred choice, I am still happy with my troll tank :) Vicera 17:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
There's no question about it, trolls rock. :) I'm quite happy with my legion of trolls as well. --bfx 06:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
That number doesn't seem right to me. It's (Spirit * 0.50 + 6)/20 per second in combat. So with 200 spirit (which shouldn't be hard to get to, if you aren't over it naturally), that's (100+6)/20 or 5.3 health per second. Which isn't very much, but that's at a relatively low spirit. It may be feasible (although I wouldn't count on it), but it's not quite as bad as Bfx stated. --Bobson 21:17, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
My number is quite similar to yours (5.5 vs. 5.3). I included the 10% Regeneration bonus, and I left the base value out (as this one is there regardless of how much Spirit you have). I still find that too negligible to be of any use, and gearing for it makes even less sense to me. A very basic example: Assume you have 100 item stat points to spend for a stat. Player A uses 100 Spirit, whereas player B uses 150 Stamina (which is, according to Formulas:Item Values, equally much in terms of item values). As a result, A gains 2.75 health/second in-combat regen, whereas B gains a one-time health increase of 1500. In order for A to get as much health of his Spirit as B gets from his Stamina, the minimum combat duration would have to be (1500/2.75 =) 545 seconds, which is more than 9 minutes. However, you have to take into account, that (1) many ticks may have no effect due to you A having full health, and (2) B reduces the risk of dying of burst damage. Furthermore, probably no one would take STA merely for the purpose of getting "extra healing". I'm not familiar with melee stats (STR/AGI/AP/etc.) and their impact on the tanking capabilities, but I'm quite sure both offensive stats (for reduced combat duration and hence less required healing) and defensive stats (for higher damage mitigation) are more beneficial than the regen. No matter how much Spirit you have, the extra life from Regeneration should not make a big difference, considering how much total healing you get in such a long fight. --bfx 10:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
In belated regards to your first question, the reason Tauren tanks are popular is not the inital stats (as you stated, these mean little at 70) but 5% extra health Tauren receive from stamina. The Warstop ability is nice as well, but the big pull to be a Tauren tank is the extra health for no extra effort. User:Decibal/Sig 23:28, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Fire Resistance Vs. Lava?

I'm a Troll Warrior (70, finally) wearing some significant Fire Resistance Gear (Full Flame Guard Set + Seal of Ascension + Drakefire Amulet = 163 Fire Resist). One thing I tested in RFC is the ability to withstand lava with Fire Resistance Gear. I swam in lava and noticed a fairly even 510 DPS on me. Then I removed all my fire resistance gear, went in again....... same exact DPS. Apparently fire resistance has no bearings on Lava. Yet this seems to go against the logic that you use fire resistance potions when soloing BRD for the MC attunement (when you swim in the lava). Is there a seperate formula that governs Resistance given from potions as given from equipment?

This isn't a big issue, but I'm interested in learning whether or not there are any modifiers that truly affect damage taken from lava? After I had removed my resistance gear I would have thought that even if fire resistance didn't negate the lava my armor would have, but found out that both the armor bonus as well as the fire resistance of my items did not have any effect upon the damage I took.

-- Vicera 19:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

I've personally haven't bothered to notice in a couple years (since MC was a big thing) but perhaps what the FR would let you do is swim farther than you normally would be able to? Because you'd resist some of the 510s? So if it hit, yes it'd be 510 and ow, but since you're in some gear you'd resist more of it than normal? And yeah, armor wouldn't matter in this case either. Which is why if you're helping a babier friend and soloing instances, as a warrior/druid you )#(*$)!$ the heck out of the casters first. --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 20:04, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Heh, FR doesn't help with torches in Orgrimmar either, it doesn't matter, fire resistance was meant for combat only, not fooling around being impervious to lava lol -- Bajo 15:30, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

So what we're basically getting at here is "Fire Resistance" only applies to magical fire. ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 18:29, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Exactly... its not like Nature Resistance is going to protect you from falling towards the earth either. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 19:48, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
After some further exploring of it, I discovered my error, I had origionally thought that Fire Resistance mitigated the damage received thereby making you take less damage from fire, instead it increases your ability to "duh!" resist the effect. After some further exploration in lava I discovered I do last longer with high FR than without as I frequently receive no damage during a second where I normally would take full damage. Also I noticed during my recent Onyxia attempt I seemed to take no noticeable health loss (beyond her normal attacks) during her Deep Breath. Vicera 07:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
The lava is then ticking as a binary effect. Either it hits you or it doesn't, and when it does it is for a constant amount of damage. The resistance is giving you a chance of not getting hit at all. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ddcorkum (talk · contr).

Souvenirs

Hey all. I've been doing lots of exploring lately (31 Nelf druid) and on my travels I came across Tainted Arcane Silver on Sunstrider isle. and I thought it would be pretty awesome to make a collection.

What I'm asking is, what should I get? Tainted Arcane silver is useless to me. but its a Belf only quest and thus gives it more value. is there anything similar for the other races of the Horde? it has to be from starting area as that's the whole point lol -- KingStoph 03:19, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

What are you asking? You want a list of items that are not nailed down in starting areas?--SWM2448 23:42, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
There's not really many quest items in starter areas for Horde. If you're a collector type I'd suggest collecting things that are not easy to get, or are very rare. One of my personal favorite things to collect is Dungeon 2 set pieces for my 70 Troll Warrior, not of any immense use with better gear available, but you feel like you truly accomplished something in collecting them. Other things people collect are vanity pets (I have 9 myself), holiday items, and even more useful things like gems. I bought a gem bag once and despite not being a BS or a JC I filled it up with a stack of every kind of simple gem just to have my own private hoard of wealth. If you end up like me, where I have the Timbermaw Exalted Trinket, the firework from the TCG, a complete Dungeon 2 set, and vanity pets from LBRS, people are actually rather impressed (working on collecting Quel'serrar now) Vicera 07:13, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Onyxia and Nefarian Head

Greetings, I play a horde character, and one thing I was curious about was if you were to attain both Inv misc head dragon black [Head of Nefarian] as well as Inv misc head dragon 01 [Head of Onyxia] and turned them in would they both appear side by side in Orgrimmar or would one overwrite the other? I think it would be awesome to have both their heads up at the same time, just curious if anyone knows what happens if one head is turned in before another is taken down? Also is there a way to tell which Dragon it is that's killed? Does the orc next to the head post say the same thing regardless of which it is?

-- Vicera 07:30, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

They both show, on different poles. I've seen both up at the same time, and turned in Onyxia's noggin while Nefarian was there. The dragons look different, so it is possible to tell. Been a long time, but I think Onyxia is more blue and black and Nefarian is red and black. --Azaram 02:43, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Awesome, we're kind of just getting our start into endgame content, and we wanted to do something big to advertise our guild, and we figured that two big dragon head's in the middle of the city is the best way to say "we're hardcore" Vicera 03:08, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Party Time!

So far theres Inv cask 04 [Brewfest Pony Keg] and some kind of BBQ (loot card) that would be handy for some kind of party. Pony keg gets your infinate brewfest brews and the BBQ gets you grilled snacks. both are totaly useless.

Anyone suggest anything else? ill make a page on it once theres enought items.-- KingStoph 14:40, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

There's also picnic baskets. Two kinds I think. --Bobson 17:03, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Some sort of party guide? Well, Inv misc flute 01 [Piccolo of the Flaming Fire] forces people to dance.--SWM2448 18:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
So we're looking for things you can set up in one spot so people can click on it? Because alcohol all over Azeroth/Outland will get you drunk. =D and you can hand them out in said spot. The BBQ you were thinking of is the Inv box 01 [Picnic Basket] that Bobson mentioned. And the other one he mentioned is the Inv misc basket 01 [Romantic Picnic Basket]. Also around is Inv drink 17 [Goblin Gumbo Kettle] that will let people burp green fire for a bit. =D
The [Brewfest Pony Keg] is not useless! I believe that some of the quests during the brewfest require you to be drunk, so having a portable "drunk maker" is handy... Winky. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:17 PM PST 1 May 2008
Next you'll be saying my [Snowmaster 9000] is useless too! Frowney (Okay, it only makes like 1 [Snowball] every 24 hours, so it is kinda useless.) --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:19 PM PST 1 May 2008
The D.I.S.C.O. being released in the next WoW TCG expanion should count for this, I think. User:Decibal/Sig 00:27, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Epic Tanking Gear?

While I personally have some insight into what the best epic items are for tanking, I have yet to find a definitive list of epic quality items specifically with tanks in mind, or good for tanks. I am not necessarily looking for a list of ALL items as much as more of a list of all epic one-handed weapons and shields that are good for warrior tanks, and paladin tanks (Feral tanks tend to do better with 2H maces, like Inv hammer 10 [Earthwarden]. I was curious if anyone has a list beginning from like lvl 50 up of all epic quality warrior weapons? I've been collecting many myself, beginning with my first, Quel'serrar (which isn't very easy to get >.<) and would like to continue this collection further. Plus I find it very hard to find good shields available for 70 warriors pre-raid oddly... it all seems geared toward paladins.

Perhaps a Tanking Items page should be considered for addition?

-- Vicera 16:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I will give you links to the best site you can read to know what works and doesn't. These guys take anal-retentive mini-max play to the extreme. How can you reach max avoidance and this thread Specific to Protection Warriors are great reading. I will warn you that participation on those threads is about contributing further to the understanding of what already is there, not answering your questions because failed to read what already was written.
See the biggest issue is that too many people are doing what you did in your question, focusing on quality of the item instead of the item's qualities. By that I mean, what stats actually mean diddly to a tanking warrior/druid. Too many people see purple and automatically assume its better yet a great example is my Paladin who has that blue sword from BEM (forget its name) that is hard to replace until late in progression. Learning what stats are important and what talents will help you choose what items are important and more importantly why they are important. When I have people criticize my gear choices I can quickly come to and understanding of their knowledge of the game and how to treat them. User:Sharlin/Sig 10:37, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
I do not personally disdain the actual usefulness of an item by it's color quality, I too use a blue now, yet I think listing all tanking weapons would be a considerably large list, the number of epic tanking weapons alone is quite large, and pretty much as soon as you enter 70Endgame, you'll only find epic items as upgrades since all items are of that quality. Narrowing it down by quality is similar to producing a list of "all legendary items", or "Black Temple Drops" instead of a very large list of every weapon that happens to have a desireable tank stat. If this were to be added at all, it would have to be more coherent than simply "This is everything". - Vicera 13:13, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Can you stop patches from automaticly downloading?

I was wondering can you stop patches from automaticly Downloading and try again latter and still play WoW. Please answer back! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Spacetime08 (talk · contr).

Nope. If the game's trying to download a patch, you'll have to download it if you want to log in to the game realms. If you're having problems with the Blizzard Downloader, you can always get patches from one of the patch mirrors. --k_d3 21:21, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
That's all true once a patch has been fully released. There's no legitimate way to prevent the short download during the login sequence, and any patch that has been fully released must be installed before you can connect to the servers. It's against EULA/TUA not to use the latest fully released patch. You can, however, control some of the behaviour of the Blizzard Downloader which downloads partial patches in advance (most of the patch data except a final small portion kept until release day). There are options in the WoW Launcher application which control if/when the Blizzard Downloader will run, and it's entirely up to you if/when you download the patch data prior to release day. There are also some options regarding bandwidth and peer to peer mode inside the downloader itself. Of course, if you disable or stop the advance download, you'll have a huge mandatory download on release day, so it's a good idea to let it run at some point (not during game play unless you have a suitably fast and high quality Internet connection). --User:Murph/Sig 22:13, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Charge (Rank 4) Not In Game?

I've been all about the Internet, this place included, and even use Fizzwidget Hunter's Helper...and apparently, there is absolutely not one single mob in the entire game that teaches Charge (Rank 4)! Now, I sincerely want to be corrected here...but I'm worried no one's gonna be able to do so! So...what's the score? ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 14:15, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

That is correct, there is no Rank 4 of Charge. Doing a WoWhead search brings up the 6 Ranks, but only Rank 4 has no boars using it.--g0urra[T҂C] 14:25, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Someone on the Hunter forums for WoW put it this way, and since it makes sense, I'll post it for you (unless that was you that posted the initial q there too.  ;)). "There are no tameable boars between level 26 and level 48. Thus, there is no rank 4 of Charge. For the same reason, there is no rank 5 or 6 of Gore.[2]" --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 21:05, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually, viewing your user page, I guess that was you.  ;) Well in case you didn't see the response someone gave to you there, it's here too. =D --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 21:05, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I put it there, too. Kind of didn't pay it much attention, though. Anyway, while I can't argue it makes sense, I don't understand why you can't learn those specific ranks from trainers or something with the prerequisite of knowing Rank 3 and Rank 4 of Charge and Gore respectively. Ya know? Just some food for thought. ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 04:50, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Having not ever leveled a Hunter I wouldn't know if it's possible to buy abilities from Trainers, but it does make sense for them to put that in game the way you suggest. Since they're not going to put it there anyway, why not let you purchase it once you hit those levels, or do a quest for it, or something. Ah well. Someone in the Hunter Camp at Blizz dropped the ball.  ;) "Where'd I put that bit of code in my hard drive? ... Ah well. N'exist pas!" --User:Innocentlysassy/Sig 06:26, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
You don't learn it from a trainer because you don't need it to gain Charge rank 5 or 6. The same applies for Gore and all other pet abilities. Unlike player abilities, pet abilities don't require you to train all the lower ranks in order to get the highest available to you (or your pet) by level. Training a higher rank also refunds the points spent on lower ranks, meaning that training all the ranks or just the highest one costs you the same in the end. See [3] for more information. Nothrend travel made easy

Though it hasn't been confirmed where exactly the ship (for alliance) leaves from it was speculated to be theramore. And Although I'm not going to edit anything till it is official, I think the new teleport/portals that mages will get with 2.4.2 is basically confirming it.

Level 35 Alliance mages can learn Teleport: Theramore, Portal: Theramore, and level 35 Horde mages can learn Teleport: Stonard and Portal: Stonard. Find Ysuria <Portal Trainer> at the base of the tower of Theramore, or Lorrin Foxfire <Portal Trainer> in Stonard.

As for the horde's teleport/portal to stonard, thats to make traveling to outland easier for the horde, due to the zeps going to be outside their major cities anyway. Well it's not difficult for horde to get to stonard either, I'm surprised bliz even thought of doing this myself... but give one faction something, have to give the other something too (for the most part). So they give alliance a faster way of getting to Northrend, and give horde a faster way to get to outland (even if a little late for that). If you look at the Undocumented Patch notes for Patch 2.4.3, you will see that in the next patch, they will add a crew of workers that will be working on first, blowing down the wall in between the Park and Cathedral Square, then adding a harbor, in which will most likely hold a boat to ferry players to the perils of Northrend. Unfortunately, this still leaves the daunting question of: How will the Horde reach Northrend? I would suppose that they would use a Zeppelin, but unfortunately, it would be rather difficult to devise I was so that three Zeppelins can be at the Orgrimmar Zeppelin Tower, since Undercity does not have an obvious position for a third Zeppelin to park. Not sure about a boat from Theramore to Northrend, but in the Wrath-Logo-Small βeta, Alliance has a boat from the new SW Harbor and Menethil Harbor and as correctly speculated, Horde has a zeppelin from outside Orgimmar and Undercity. Increased Stealth Detection

If you are an engineer then you can make Inv helmet 47 [Catseye Ultra Goggles]. I'm wondering if you can also drink a catseye elixir to stack and get twice the stealth detection? -- Kimcmr 16:58, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm fairly certain that those effects do stack. I have done the test with Perception and Spell shadow auraofdarkness [Paranoia] on a PTR long time ago and it did seem to boost stealth detection to a higher level than anyone alone would have done. My assumption is that the mechanic behind them (Mod Detect) simply is a value that is added to your base stealth detect value, whereas the sum of both determine your actual stealth detection. So in your case, the detection values for the Catseye Ultra Goggles (18) and for the Inv potion 36 [Catseye Elixir] (10) should give a total of 28 points; if Blizzard is consistent, this should give you stealth detection as if you were 5-6 levels higher than you are. --bfx 09:33, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Add-on required files and folders not there..

I was going to add some add-ons to my game but when I went into the interface folder I realized that the addons folder was not there... I need to know a place to download the folder because I tried re-installing and it did not work..

Please Help, Blazinfreak13

-- BlazinFreak13 16:28, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

A re-install, login and download of updates should give you the following built-in AddOns in Interface\AddOns\:
Blizzard_CraftUI\
Blizzard_GMSurveyUI\
Blizzard_CombatText\
Blizzard_CombatLog\
Blizzard_GuildBankUI\
Blizzard_InspectUI\
Blizzard_MacroUI\
Blizzard_BindingUI\
Blizzard_TalentUI\
Blizzard_RaidUI\
Blizzard_ItemSocketingUI\
Blizzard_TrainerUI\
Blizzard_TradeSkillUI\
Blizzard_BattlefieldMinimap\
Blizzard_AuctionUI\
Are you sure you downloaded all the updates after a re-install? You may want to contact Blizzard support to get a download of just the built-in AddOns, because we can't make them available for download here at WoWWiki without Blizzard's permission (which we don't have as far as I know). --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:02 AM PST 29 Apr 2008
I thought the folder and the default blizz addons recreated themselves from the MPQs on start up of the game anyways? :S If a reinstall and patching didn't work, then i'm inclined you beleive you have an illegal/damaged copy of the game. -- Zeal (T/C)  09:40, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
A fresh re-install from CDs or DVD will install the first version of the game before it used the Blizzard_ AddOns. These default AddOns were added as part of later patches (I forget which exactly). If BlazinFreak13 tried a re-install before trying to launch the game without those AddOns, then they wouldn't get re-created automatically. I'll have to see if these AddOns get automatically recreated... useful info. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 3:55 PM PST 1 May 2008

Northern hemisphere?

There's next speculation... maybe everything what we know about geography of Azeroth is just the planet's northern hemisphere?

  • Northrend have polar climate
  • Lordaeron, Hyjal etc. have temperate climate
  • Barrens have dry sub-tropical climate
  • Tanaris is obviously a desert
  • Kezan is tropical, like on an equator

Maybe this is just only the northern hemisphere and there are Pandaria and another lands and fabulous creatures just in the southern hemisphere, not yet discovered?

-- Shargas the Naga 20:14, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

It is very conceivable this is the northern hemisphere, however I highly doubt them expanding the map southward if such is the case, primarily because there is no lore alluding to anything beyond what the area covered by the Azerothian world map now depicts, with the exception of Pandaria. While Pandaria is a confirmed real location in lore, I think it's initial birth as Sam Didier's joke makes it less likely to make a true appearance in WoW. Also while the general north-to-south arctic>temperate>tropical is generally accurate, stand on the border of Feralas/Thousand Needles, face toward one, then do a radical 180 and face the other........ then tell me how much thought you think Blizzard put into making sure it all lined up well? How do you even get a landscape like Thousand Needles anyway? O_o Vicera (talk) 10:10, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Would be interesting idea but have you compared zones between continents for the same latitude? User:Sharlin/Sig 10:30, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but including only similar latitude, because it's not so perfect in WoW. It looks so we have still much to discover... --Shargas the Naga 12:49, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

The Maelstrom rotates counter-clockwise. If it was placed at the equator, it wouldn't have been able to rotate, and if it had been in the southern hemisphere, it would have rotated clockwise. If Azertoh follows the same gravitational laws as earth, that means it's in the northern hemisphere. That would indicate that the equator goes anywhere below the malestrom, which again indicates that there is a far south part of Azertoh that we can't see. Or Blizzard hasn't been doing their homework and created a illogical whirlpool --OseTalkz / Contribz 13:05, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 03:03, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Maybe Malestrom was created by magic, but it would need a very big power to still hold it in state that counters Corriolis power (the name was something like that). I don't think that there is so big power still holding it. And however, Felwood and others were corrupted by the Burning Legion so it could have - for several years (not 10,000 as Maelstrom) its own microclimate. --Shargas the Naga 11:30, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
The Maelstrom is powered by the most powerful source of magic ever seen on Azeroth - the Well of Eternity. For WS, I think it's higher up than the other areas - essentially mountainous. Also, note that we may see different zones at specific seasons, they don't have to be the same as the neighbouring zones. I do think the general trend of north=cold, south=hot is fairly accurate - however, that could be explained as due to the planet's tilt, overriding the equatorial problem. This would, of course, put Northrend in eternal darkness ... but hey. It kinda works :P Kirkburn  talk  contr 17:49, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Did anyone read what I said? Azeroth must rotate backwards. This would cause the coriolis effect to reverse. -- Arcanedeath 01:26, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Why must rotate backwards? However, the climate still clearly says we have only one of the hemispheres, and the northern one seeing the northern continent frozen. --Shargas the Naga 18:49, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Because as I said if the coriolis effect is reversed then it means the planet rotates backwards. -- Arcanedeath 19:21, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
But what's the source of this speculation? For now, it looks like "rotates backwards because corriolis is reversed, corriolis reversed because rotates backwards". --Shargas the Naga 19:28, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Bah, if you stare at Azeroth from Outland, you'll see the planet doesn't rotate at all, and thats why there is no seasons or climate change. =) User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 20:16, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Outland is a kind of paradox - it resides in the Twisting Nether, so we may see only a mirror of Azeroth in the time of Draenor's destruction. However, planet not rotating may be only because of Blizzard's laziness in preparing such details. --Shargas the Naga 20:46, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
You are all too close-minded with the preoccupation that Azeroth has similar characteristics as the Earth. The fact is, Azeroth is FLAT! (Well, this is what I believe, though I don't have proof. ;) ) WakemanCK (talk) 05:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Might only be a disc of some sort instead of a sphere :P . Back to topic I would say that the weather in Azeroth seems to be based in earth, you have rain / clouds, that are caused by the rotation of the sphere and different temperatures that exist on the planet. Althou it is a fantasy world some part of the real world rules are applied as game mechanics. :User:WoWWiki-Kaiku/sign 16:06, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
To add to the crazy debate: The Maelstrom (according to book lore) isn't just a whirlpool either. It also extends into the sky, as a hurricane or other form of tropical storm might. It's even alluded to that there is a void at the center leading to the Twisting Nether, both of which would counter-act or ignore the corriolis effect. At least, I think so. User:Decibal/Sig 23:48, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Gotta throw this into the debate: http://www.elfsar.com/Gaming/logo_wowanim.gif

I see both original continents and Northrend, and no southern hemisphere.

Azeroth is not a flat disc! It is a normal round planet. I have been interested in what is on the other side of Azeroth for a long time. There can be no continents, as Kalimdor, the Eastern Kingdoms, and Northrend all came from the original supercontinent, Kalimdor. But there could be large islands, broken off in the sundering, of which one could be Pandaria. The Coriolis effect has no sway over the maelstrom because it was made by a huge magical explosion that blasted apart the continent. The magical fury of that explosion keeps it swirling the way it does, in ignorance of gravity and the rotation of the planet. --Mesethusela (talk) 22:01, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

When the Sundering Hhappened it ate up the middle of the contient. So no big islands would be outside. And one of the RPG books (forgot which sorry) States that the pandarens fled their Island homes abandoning their Kalimdorian empire. So the islands already existed. But that dosent mean that the Titans couldn't have made other land masses. Oh and I agree Azeroth Is Flat. But not Middle Ages world is Flat Sun Revolves around us flat. But Midgar flat where its in the middle of some great dimmension. I think it'd look like this: Twisting Nether Great Dark Air elemntal Plane Azeroth/Draenor Earth Water Fire Elemental Plane Twisting Nether(Being all surrounding Place of DOOOM!) -Agamemmnon 20:36 October 3, 2008

I'm not so sure they'll expand beyond that, but we may see some Undermine stuff... and we know for sure that they were playing around with the Emerald Dream as can be seen by doing a YouTube search and seeing people exploring the content on private servers. I'd be curious to see if they use that content. That would be pretty fun. Bring Malfurion Stormrage into the mix. User:Nuurdien/Sig 15:23, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Tailoring Specialities!

So I'm a shadow priest who will most likely spec holy once my guild starts running Kara and heroics. What tailoring speciality is best for me? Of course, I really like the shadow weave right now, but that gear won't really help me once I'm Holy. I'd really like to be versatile and be able to respec and have the gear to play the role needed, so I'm just not sure which way to go.

Another note, I also PvP a fair amount and plan on building a set of PvP epic gear at 70.

-- LavieX 18:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Well if 70 is going to be holy then do Primal Mooncloth as soon as you can spec it. Your going to need a lot of it. You can still make shadowcloth and spellcloth but you only get 1 piece per attempt. They are all on separate timers. You can make both sets but you can only wear the one your spec'd for in tailoring. So if the 150g respec doesn't make you flinch make them both User:Sharlin/Sig 17:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

The Third Expansion

I had read somewhere that during an interview a WoW Dev said that they had ideas for at least 5 or 6 more (expansions). Can anyone cite where this was from and whether it was said in regards to BC or WotLK? I have frequently considered what would be the next expansion after Northrend. One thing I noticed with BC is the "true" final boss was never meant to be Illidan, the whole Burning Crusade is meant to be a battle against the Burning Legion, and so of course with 2.4 we unveiled the last and final boss of BC: Kil'jaedan. I don't think WotLK will go this route, as it would be insane to wait so long after the expansion release before giving us the very villain of which the expansion is named, the Lich King. Yet one thing I had noticed is 2.4 did something else with Quel'danas in that it provided us a segway from the conflict of the Burning Legion BACK to that of the Scourge by having both as a presence on the island. So of course it's going to be (in a sense of lore) fresh in everyone's mind after Kil'jaedan is defeated that the Lich King is still at large. So I'm wondering if maybe WotLK will have some hint of what will be next?

The presence of Ulduar suggests a lot to me, and also presents the hopefulness of finally having Uldum as well. Perhaps we're getting back to the issue of "revisitation" and the Titan Traitor and mastermind behind the evils of the world himself, Sargeras. Yet if there's still 5 to 6 more expansions possible, they wouldn't use their "Pentultimate Villain" card so quickly, while they've barely alluded to his presence in-game in WoW, it is pretty clear in my mind that Sargeras is intended as the "Big Bad FINAL Boss of Warcraft".

One of the expansion ideas I find particularly interesting is the "Great Sea" expansion, which has been mentioned as possibly having aquatic mounts, what I'd really like to see is a lack of "fatique black waters" between Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms so that if you truly were dedicated you could swim from one to the other..... although that's not absolutely necessary. Though what will be nice is the addition of the many islands in the Great Sea, including those not seen like the bloodsail buccaneer den, and Kul Tiras. Also the Maelstrom provides a very nice hub for a whole slew of instances. To me Azshara seems an incomplete zone, too empty and desolate to really say "yeah it's done" it has a lot of potential I think so it could even be used as a "staging area" for the entire Great Sea campaign, seeing as how it has heavy Naga and Makura activity already. This also gives the chance to have modern day Hyjal, the rest of Timbermaw Hold, and even the Azshara Crater Battleground (and likewise the Forlorn Ridge). Maybe such an expansion wont stand on it's own so they could even add the Emerald Dream to it as well, although it is possible for them should they choose to make the Emerald Dream worthy of it's own expansion.

Those were just a few ideas I felt the need to share. -- Vicera (talk) 10:30, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

If the market is there, they can produce dozens of expansions. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 11:39, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
I also think next expansion would be Into the Malestrom - the Great Sea expansion. Before we can face the big bad - Sargeras - we need to deal with the minor ones, like Azshara, still dwelling down there, under the Maelstrom. A question is now - when would they announce subject of third expansion? --Shargas the Naga (talk) 11:50, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Battlegrounds and Dueling

Okay, so I had this insane idea... Basically, you could duel a Warlock and they could cast Spell shadow unholystrength [Curse of Recklessness] on you, right? Two minutes of absolute fear immunity! (Because the enemy can't steal or dispell debuffs.) The downside of this, of course, would be reduced armor...but it increases attack power, too, so... Anyway! My question here is...can you duel in a Battleground? If so, why hasn't anyone done this before now? Just some random thoughts from someone who's tired of being chain-feared. :x ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 02:07, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't believe you can duel inside any instances, which BGs are. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 02:58, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
I kind of vaguely remember people dueling in MC while waiting for a replacement to show up, but I may be wrong. I'm pretty sure that debuffs are removed at the end of a duel anyway, aren't they? --Azaram (talk) 05:25, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm fairly sure that duelling is not possible while in a BG. --bfx (talk) 15:07, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Quest or error?

I found a reference to a Bloodmyst Isle priest quest named Caedmos listed on the Allakhazam website. I can't find any reference to it anywhere else, and the only reference to Caedmos on this site is for the NPC. Does anyone know anything about this quest? Specifically, I was wondering whether it is real, whether it is Draenei only, and what NPC starts the quest. Dalnir (talk) 03:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Chances are that it is a regular priest quest that you get from your priest trainer. I don't have a high level priest so I wouldn't know any names, but the warrior Defensive and Berserker stances come to mind as examples. Both of them start out at a warrior trainer. Leaked Info from Alpha?

I was wondering if we are allowed to add leaked data from the Alpha of WotLK? Someone who shall be hunted down by Blizzard has leaked all the current talents, abilities, summoned mount, starting gear stats and looks for the Death Knight online. Not only that, he made a video and showed off what might be the starting area for the Death Knight which they currently don't spawn at. How we know it's not just a hacker data mineing WoW's alpha patch is because their are NPCs and other players within the images and their name is blacked out 90% of the time... Someone is going to get in tttttrouble.

Basiclly, the question is "Can we post this on the wiki?" It's alpha data but it's still from a Alpha Tester's screen which means it's kind of offical. Not really data mineed or hacked.

Mount Upgrades?

One thing I've been curious about, was at around lvl 60 I noticed at various riding trainers there became available quests where you could "upgrade" specific mounts into better ones, however the mounts it mentions do not, as far as I know, exist in game, I have looked up info on these quests and found no relevant information. It seems odd that these quests would exist if there is no way to complete them, does anyone have any information regarding these broken mount upgrade quests? -- Vicera (talk) 09:23, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Those quests only existed to replace old model mounts for the newer ones. I don't remember exactly what patch that took place, but the quests are more or less obsolete. Has Blizzard made any comment on the future removal of these quests along with the removal of the Commendation Signet Officers? It's quite annoying that 2 years after every AQ gate has been opening having to explain to every new player that there commendation signets are no longer attainable, seems like it serves no practical point to keep these quests for such a long duration. Vicera (talk) 06:48, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
They will most likely never remove them, so long as at least one server has a player that still have the old items. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 06:56, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I think it's rather unfortunate that this event has been locked out. With so much content they worked on solely for the opening event alone, and such a massive undertaking to open it. Loot Drop Rates

One thing I have often been curious of is how WoW handles loot drops, as far as math involved. I have noticed that the larger the group you are in, the higher your drop rates for uncommon and higher quality items are. As an example, I have farmed UBRS with 3 people, and gotten 1/3rd less Green/Blue BoE Items than when I do it with a 10 man. This occurence is so frequent I can't write it off to chance and assume the size of your group affects this. It even has encouraged me and members of my guild to form up what we call "Farming Groups" where we are all off in different parts of the world doing our own thing, but being in a group allows us to benefit from the higher loot drops without being close enough to have to roll for loot.

I've also repeatedly heard rumors about how to increase your chance of getting certain items, like if you're farming a set piece, have the rest of the set in your inventory, or like for example, to get the Baron Rivendare Mount you need to kill him on the red circle and everyone must be exalted with Argent Dawn, while I realize that to be a myth, it has made me curious about the following:

Does anything else affect loot drops beyond the size of your party? I am assuming all items are assigned a drop-rate, like 5.04% or something, and I'm guessing then they do something to the effect of (# in party * 0.2)*loot drop % or something to that extent. Is there something else that affects drop rates, or makes you more likely to get a certain drop? -- Vicera (talk) 00:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Thousand Needles, another exit

Did anyone happen to notice what patch (had to be 2.4 or after) that the mountain moved in northern Thousand Needles?

You know where on the Darkcloud Pinnacle you go to kill Arnak Grimtotem, the bridge that leads there you can see to the left the tauren and to the right the quilboar, but none the two shall meet. I have to agree, try the Druid forums on WoW's main site (US or EU as applies). User:Decibal/Sig 03:09, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

You can, but it is probably not as efficient as feral for leveling. Without good gear, oomkins get oom easily, so you may need to drink a lot when leveling at low level. Hunter macros

Okay, so I'm new to WoW and I'm learning, slowly but surely. I think I've finally grasped how to make Macros, but I'd like to know more experienced players' opinions. Right now I'm lvl 10 so I was wondering: what's the most useful Hunter Macro? Thx to anyone that leaves a post -- Drkg0d (talk) 15:14, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

This may not be the best place for discussion of such. While this is the section for discussing things related to Warcraft, it is more centered around providing answers to factually based questions. What the "best" macro is, is purely subjective and everyone has their own ideas of what may or may not be considered "the best". If you're looking for such suggestions, I might suggest the main WoW forums, in the hunter category. Also, since answering your question is purely subjective, I would suggest you just learn the ropes of playing a hunter first (which you won't fully grasp at level 10) before deciding on what macro serves you best. Macros, while they can make your life easier, are usually reserved more for streamlining tasks for situations in which repetition or critical timing is important. What that means in layman's terms is that in most cases until you get to a level in which being a part of a group, doing hardcore PvE or PvP content, macros aren't really of much use. After you learn the basics of your hunter and learn more of their potential, then view the list of "hunter macros" presented here on this site and discuss it on the official forums as well. Best of luck. Vicera (talk) 03:09, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Read a little closer. It says: "One Death Knight per server per account." That means you and Mike can each have a Death Knight on Stormreaver, but you can't have two. User:Decibal/Sig 20:19, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

True identity of Infinite Dragonflight

You know, guys, I've just found out who the Infinite Dragonflight really is!

It's... Blizzard themselves! They have morphed into the forms of Infinite Dragons and entered the Warcraft universe to mess with time. This is more commonly called "the retcons". Bronze Dragons realized that Blizzard wants to screw up the lore with WoW once again and hired us to stop them from creating another retcon. It could explain that previously Eredar did corrupted Sargeras. But the Infinite Dragonflight (er... Blizzard) went back in time and changed this.

This explains a hell lot of things!

Macro Help for a noobie

Hi

I am new to the game and Im having trouble getting to grips with macros. I have attempted to create my first macro but It will not work. My macro goes as follows:

/cast [stance:2/3 nocombat] Battle Stance
/castsequence [nocombat] Charge (Rank1), Bloodrage, Hamstring (Rank1)
/castsequence [combat] Bloodrage, Hamstring (Rank1)

What I am trying to do is go to battle stance if in either defencive or berserker stance. Then cast charge, bloodrage and hamstring if not in combat, but if already in combat cast bloodrage and hamstring instead.

When I run the macro from defensive stance it just says I need to be in battle stance.

Can someone please tell me where Im going wrong.

PS I am aware I may not have used the correct syntax on above macro but it is correct in game.

Thanks. -- Waveyd73 (talk) 21:26, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

It sounds like a syntax error to me, so using a different syntax here for help isn't going to get you far. I'm not too huge on macros myself, but I do believe you need a comma in the midde of your macro options in the first line (ie /cast [stance:2/3, nocombat]) and while that may not fix your problem, it should help. Also try checking out the UI and Macros forums on the WoW site, the sticky written by Cogweheel on the US forums is very helpful. User:Decibal/Sig 00:06, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

WoW possible on 360?

I was looking at the specs for the discs the 360 uses, they can store up to 8.5 gigs per side. What size is WoW, about 8 gigs currently? I mean, they could team up with MS to release patches. And the input problem, make it a box set with an adapter that enables you to use a mouse. Then, WoW would appeal to a wider audience. Storage can use the hard drive, or a cheap one just for WoW included in the box set. I think the would interest many of the people on Xbox Live. Time cards could also be entered through the market place, or you could buy the with MS points.

I just want WoW on the 360, that's all. -- Flamero Blaze (talk) 20:19, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Certain games have always been the (only) reason to actually buy a certain console, but that's not really the point here either. There are some genres that just don't work on consoles, because of their complex controls: strategy, ego-shooters (yes, believe me) and everything that relies on heavy mouse and keyboard use in the PC version, which includes WoW. Some encouraging pieces of information imply that this is an older document since the names of zones that are currently confirmed or else in existence with TBC, are different, or merged. IE: Bloodmyst Isle is Bloodmyrk Isle, and the "Bone Wastes" of Terrokar are represented as their own zone. Several expansion speculations are in order with this however, and it may just be a well designed ruse. Hard to say it's origins but I would speculate that it at least has some bearings on fact. For any fan of Warcraft Lore is seems very apparent that the penultimate villain of the series is Sargeras, and I highly doubt we'll stop seeing expansions to WoW until they release the raid instance (Burning Citadel?) in which we finally face the Dark Titan himself. The presence of the Planes is interesting, and also brings up a new question, if they release the elemental planes as an expansion, is Ragnaros moving and getting re-tuned? (Ala, Naxxramas in WotLK) Vicera (talk) 21:46, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I always thought we're only "unsummoning" Ragnaros back to the Elemental Plane, to face him there yet again. You know, Vicera, these small diffirences make me feel it might be true, not as almost all rumours that claim to be older than tBC, that are directly relevant with present game. We know it have gone through some transformations, and it's why this one piece looks so probable. Severin Andrews 21:52, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

So far, in September 2007 (date of the post) layout of zones at both Outland and Northrend was known (Outland from tBC, Northrend from WoWRPG) so this is no actual proof so far. If we would get later announced "Plane" expansion with mentioned zones, this would mean anything. It means we have to wait years to determine this. Severin Andrews 17:54, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Yep. I was the one who pointed it out, and yes there's no way to verify it until the next expansion is announced. If they announce a Maelstrom expansion with roughly that layout, then I'd be convinced. Otherwise, it's likely just fan speculation. I did, however, think it was important to archive the origin and date of the post. -Deepone (talk) 12:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

The Future of Tier 3?

Okay, so we all know Naxxramas is being moved to Northrend and being retuned as a lvl 80 raid instance. It's also revealed that the Death Knight Class will begin in a "Necropolis" floating above the Plaguelands (most likely in Naxx's place). The question I'd like to see answered is will Tier 3 armor sets currently available from Naxxramas be attainable with the new expansion, or will they be permanently removed from the game? While obviously their progression value is worthless now, to some, collecting these items has become very popular. Has Blizzard made any kind of comment about the future of the Tier 3 Armor Sets (or for that matter, the other epic drops from Naxx)?-- Vicera (talk) 21:51, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

I'd like the devs to add "Platinum" and "Mithril" as levels of money. How?

What is the best way to suggest the following to the Devs?:

Add Platinum coins, at the rate of 100 Gold to 1.

Add Mithril coins, at the rate of 100 Platinum to 1.

Owning even ONE mithril coin will bring prestige.

Transacting in platinum and mithril will make it and the math easier. The numbers will be smaller, so players will like the feeling of added simplicity.

I also read on the Money article that thanks to a 32-bit integer limit, players can only carry up to 214748G.34S.46C, which would be 21M.47P.48G.34S.46C if Mithril and Platinum were added. How many mithril coins could one hold if WoW upgraded its money system to 64-bit? --ENG (talk) 09:13, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Before reading the article, I believed the WoW money system was unsigned 32-bit, not signed, as we can't have negative money in game anyway. Upgrading to 64-bit integers seems to be too much for a money system. Think about 19 to 20 digits... As an extra information, most other MMOGs also use 32-bit integers for this. Still, Blizzard could use unsigned integers for storing the money, allowing twice as much money as now... See Common integral data types --RR Fang (talk) 12:22, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Why, thank you for finding it for me! Since the highest positive signed 64-bit integer is 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, and for some reason, the upper money limit subtracts one from the 32-bit; it must do the same for the 64-bit numeral. That works out to 92,233,720,368M.54P.77G.58S.06C. Way too much Mithril!
How about I go further out on a limb here and overhaul the entire currency system?: In the order of value, the 12 original Azeroth metal bars are: Copper • Tin • Bronze • Silver • Iron • Gold • Steel • Mithril • Thorium • Truesilver • Dark Iron • Elementium. Say the money's denominations get reborn into all these metals, save for the ones below Gold that are not in the money system already.
100 copper --> 100 Silver --> 100 Gold --> 100 Platinum --> 100 Mithril --> 100 Thorium --> 100 Truesilver --> 100 Dark Iron --> 100 Elementium. In the upper limit of the 64-bit money integer, that works out to 922E.33DI.72Ts.03Th.68M.54P.77G.58S.06C.
Now assume WoW Gold deflates to 1¢ per piece on the illegal RL money trading market. That's $1 per Platinum piece, which still translates to $100 per Mithril, $10,000 per Thorium(!), $1,000,000 per Truesilver(!!), unimaginability for Dark Iron(!!!), and then supreme unimaginability for Elementium coins!!!!
Unbelieveable; The upper-limit for money in the 64-bit structure would most certainly rival the American federal deficit! To own even one Thorium coin would rocket (or even "beam") your ego higher than everyone else's. You'd be the king of the server; respected by all (or at least 99.2% of all.) --ENG (talk) 15:43, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I'd suggest you post on the official suggestions forums instead of a fansite. You won't get much response from devs here. g0urra[T҂C] 14:59, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, there's no support in lore for the existence of platinum on Azeroth. Mithril should instead be the type immediately above gold, and then thorium above that.Silverpie (talk) 15:04, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
If without platinum, then the figures for the upper limit are: 92,233E.72DI.03Ts.68Th.54M.77G.58S.06C. Using the otherwise same deflation scenario as before, Mithril=$1, Thorium=$100, Truesilver=$10,000, Dark Iron=$1,000,000, Elementium=unimaginability.
Are non-subscribers able to post on the suggestions forums? If we are, then what a surprise; I'll submit this there right away! --ENG (talk) 15:43, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
PS: Ahem, you quest for platinum. I searched for platinum, and found a list of quests for platinum discs, etc. and here is an article for one of them: Quest:The_Platinum_Discs_(Alliance,_1)
I suppose they're too rare (or common?) to even be made into money, bars, and anything else. (Or there's got to be some kind of reason to their very limited presence.) --ENG (talk) 15:51, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Uhhh, what's the point really of all this? It's not very much easier to transact 10 mithril as opposed to 1000g, and switching to 64 bit integers is unrealistic (too much data to store). --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:00, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't think 64-bit integers are too much; how can they be when terabyte hard drives go for under $250 in some places nowadays? What was too much a few years ago becomes rather trivial now. --ENG (talk) 16:06, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Think how many characters World of Warcraft has. We're talking real money here for Blizzard. They won't do it because only a few people have reached what is a pretty high cap already. But switching from signed 32-bit to unsigned may be a bit more realistic. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:09, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
That's what I mean. Switching from signed to unsigned is more realistic when talking about a huge structure with much data (characters) within it, but it's still not viable. Specially when someone can store the money within more than one character (alts).
(Imagine that an optimized SQL database stores all this data realm-wide... Converting data types on the whole database would take long to complete even on a maintenance day. Besides all the code changes and additional space required.)
Also, the market acceptance of some specific coin (or metal, in this case) may matter more than the value itself. Gold is probably the most accepted coin lore-wise, and available enough (resource-wise). (Hope this is understandable, my English isn't very good) --RR Fang (talk) 17:41, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Ignoring the math for a moment, the added 'simplicity' of this idea won't nessisarily appeal to as many as you seem to believe. I know I would find converting to yet another type of coin a pain. As to the pride you would take in owning a high value coin, the only way to prove such a feat would be screenshots, which isn't nearly as convient for bragging rights as something you could link. The smaller numbers could also have a reverse effect on player pride over their wealth: larger numbers are more impressive then a series of smaller numbers. Retconning the Holy Light

I've read and reread the article on the religion of the Holy Light, and I've noticed that it's been changed recently.

It's not that I'm accusing anyone of misdeeds or personal bias, but is it Blizzard's official position that only "small cults" believe in a possible deity or personality behind the Light?

This strikes me as odd, because when you complete the quest to capture Matis the Cruel, both Velen and Vindicator Kuros refer to The Light as having the capacity for independent action--suggesting that the Draenei believe in a deity. (You may check the article on Matis for the conversation I'm referencing.) I also recall, although I cannot place it, a comment that is made by a human woman to her child to the effect that "The Light has this all planned out."

Such being the case, would it be out of line for that information to be re-added to the article? Or has Blizzard unequivocally said that no follower of the Light is theistic? Can anyone provide a non-wowwiki link to that statement?

-- Tiraline (talk) 02:04, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I think Blizzard, or other people, are trying to retcon the subject from what they said in Warcraft I, II, and etc. — that there are angels, God, and the Light. I don't know if people were complaining or what, but it now seems that they are trying to make the Light like a cult that the Azotha made, or expanded based on some earlier origin stories, because it is hard to classify God.LOL God would easily squish Sargeras.  Rolandius Wc3Knight (talk - contr) 02:13, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Tiraline, Blizzard's been retconning it if anyone has. Light appears very slipshop now that you've drawn my attention to it, but Church of the Holy Light is cited using (liscensed, so take it was a grain of salt) material. Regardless of additions/changes, it safe to say that most of the background lore from the first two games has been retconned and clarified significantly, so what you're reading about anything in the Orcs and Humans manual is almost certainly out of date.
and Rolandius, think critically: how the hell could the Light be a cult Azotha made when the Draenei were introduced to the same thing (using the same term) several thousand years earlier? --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 02:24, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I wasn't using info out of those books, given that I don't have them. *smile* I was drawing from things I'd seen in the WoW game itself--things that likely wouldn't get in without Blizzard's approval. Tiraline (talk) 02:04, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I didn't say I myself thought it was a cult. I am saying some people are writing on wowwiki as if the Azotha borrowed the religion from some origin myths. Also, people are writing on wowwiki, as Tiraline pointed out, that only "small cults" believe in God as being behind the Light. I see otherwise.  Rolandius Wc3Knight (talk - contr) 02:39, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, I was hoping I wasn't crazy; thanks for the backup on that. So, is it appropriate for me to re-add the content I mentioned--under the "speculation" subheading, of course? Tiraline (talk) 02:04, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Fan lore is not allowed on WoWWiki. I've tagged Light with everything I could think of.--Ragestorm (talk · contr) 02:43, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Well there are still some entries saying it. I am not sure if it counts as other opinions or not. "The archaic term "god" used by the Clerics of Northshire Abbey during the First War, appears to be synonymous with the "Light", and just another way of describing the source of the power, though it is likely connected to one of the Creation Myths. However it has lost its usage since then, as most followers no longer believe in any deities. It appears though that a few cults still believe in the Celestials however." That is one example.  Rolandius Wc3Knight (talk - contr) 02:47, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay nevermind, you put tags.  Rolandius Wc3Knight (talk - contr) 02:49, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'm highly analytical on RL matters, and it bleeds over into dealing with this stuff. That's why I was asking for a source on comments like the one you quote, Rolandius. Thank you both, Ragestorm and Rolandius. I didn't think I was nuts. Tiraline (talk) 02:04, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
The phrase "The Light has this all planned out." is from a Draenei NPC outside Auchenai Crypts or it could've been Sethekk Halls but one of those two that have the giant pile of bones the onside and the NPC in front of a shrine the other side --EKJ (talk) 14:40, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Kadorei "Marriage"

As im sure many RPers have noticed, it appears perfectly normal to get married and have a big fancy wedding, regardless of race.

My problem is though, Kaldorei dont marry, they pick a life mate.. is there anything else for this? or do they just go "you will do my love" and just stick together. or is there any form of Ceramory, no matter how low-key

-- KingStoph (talk) 05:41, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Another question is, what if another race and a Kaldorei got married? Which customs would they follow? Rhonin and Vereesa Windrunner got married but I cannot remember what kind of celebration they had if any.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 06:54, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
KingStoph, we don't know. While it is possibly a safe assumption that the night elves would have some sort of ceremony given the prescence of an organized priesthood, it is also possible that there isn't any sort of ceremony. We've never been shown an example
Rolandius, they'd find some happy medium, like real-world interfaith couples.--Ragestorm (talk · contr) 14:01, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Well you know how the Kaldorei do not like the idea of another race marrying a Kaldorei.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 01:26, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Vereesa isn't Kaldorei, she's Quel'dorei. Anyway, even if one culture was intolerant of the idea, cultural elements could easily find their way into a ceremony. Tyrande may not be the most easygoing person, but she is accepting of people as they come.--Ragestorm (talk · contr) 01:48, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay I got those two confused. I meant elves in general. Although Tyrande may be accepting, the society is not. That is why Rhonin and Vereesa talked about it, or else why mention something if people don't care what they do?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 01:55, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Portal questions

First question. I have played Warcraft II but not the expansion. It says here that "After destroying the mystic gate into Azeroth, the Humans discover that the rift which allows the Orcs passage into their world still exists." So it reappeared that fast by magic? Second question. How did the Frostwolf clan travel all the way to their new home after their exile without anyone noticing them or fighting them? Especially since it was right before or during the first war, and the people in Northeron would not be busy fighting the orcs yet until the Second War. I guess that is it for now.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 11:22, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

First answer. The physical portal on the Azeroth side was destroyed, but the "rift" (the tear that was punched through the space between worlds) was still open. It couldn't allow even one-way passage without preparation, but it was enough to ensure that the two worlds were linked and that the portal could be rebuilt.
Second Question. No idea, anyone else? --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 13:35, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
That begs the question, how many times has the physical portal been built and destroyed? It was built the first time right before Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, and then destroyed at the end of Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. Who built it again on the Azeroth side to let the orcs invade again in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal? After the end of Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, isn't it destroyed again by Khadgar? (I am not sure which side of it.) I have not played Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos or Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, but I am guessing the portal is either rebuilt or still around after Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal because Kael'thas and Lady Vashj escaped with the blood elves through it. After this, I guess the portal is still intact or rebuilt because it was opened again at the start of the Burning Crusade and is still active as of now.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 14:46, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't reopened in WCIII. LAdy Vashj and Kael escaped through the portal that summoned Archimonde during the third war. Basher1200 (talk) 08:48, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Something I've been wondering about anyway... if multiple portals at one time tore the world apart, why is Azeroth still around, when dozens of mages are making portals all the time? How is the Dark Portal different from a mage portal? --Azaram (talk) 07:30, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

To answer your Question Teron Gorefiend Reopened the Portal on the Draenor side two years after ToD. And the frost wolves getting to their new home. Durotan was banished not long after the Portals opening so it might have been by boat. Hope it helped.--Agamemmnon 10:09,October 3 2008.

Number of Sargerases?

On the Sargeras page it says, "The implications of this is that Sargeras now exists as three separate entities, the real Sargeras, the avatar of Sargeras, and the portion of his spirit that was dispersed to the Twisting Nether." Now if Sargeras was stuck in that portal from War of the Ancients and "ceased to be", doesn't that mean his body died but his spirit lived? That spirit part I think was infused into the avatar. If the "real Sargeras" survived the closing of that portal, why would he use an avatar instead of his real self to invade Northrend? His real self would be far stronger, and he tried to do that in the War of the Ancients. I think that there is no "real Sargeras" or we would have heard about him by now. I think there are just two entities, the portion of his spirit that was dispersed to the Twisting Nether after Medivh died and the avatar of Sargeras, since it mysteriously disappeared from the Tomb of Sargeras. Does that make sense?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 15:03, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

I have removed the offending passage. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 15:14, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
While I'll not pretend to be an authority on the nature of Sargeras, from all I have gathered all lore up to this point seems to indicate he is designed to be the ultimate final villain boss of World of Warcraft, the ultimate final raid. When the piece of Sargeras was freed from Medivh's body, it was sent back to the Twisting Nether, which is conveniently where Sargeras is, it is highly probable and possible that this portion of himself that was released was simply recaptured by Sargeras and used to make himself "complete". As for his Avatar, due to the sheer power that the Dark Titan possesses, I highly doubt his Avatar is of any consequence. If it is missing from the Tomb of Sargeras, it is probably the work of the Shadow Council, or else it likely resides within the Maelstrom (as the Naga are very likely to be the most obvious culprits behind raiding that island). To Sargeras, having an avatar is probably no more than having a shade of himself left behind, if there is any true connection. As for why Sargeras does not invade Azeroth himself, I don't know if it be by magical barrier, or what, but he seems content to entrust his liutenants with the invasion. While Wrath of the Lich King is a departure away from the Burning Legion invasion, I think in the third expansion we will begin to see the repercussions of Kil'jaedan and Archimonde's failures, and begin the slow trek towards eradicating the Burning Legion from Azeroth once and for all. Vicera (talk) 05:35, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
The Avatar and the bit of him that was in Medivh were probably the same thing. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 15:11, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Yes it was, as Medivh/Sargeras said he wanted to get to where his avatar was buried in order to shed the human body (Medivh).  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 15:28, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Number of demon invasion

I see that there are stated to be three invasions of Azeroth in the Burning Legion page. Shouldn't that number be four? The first invasion was during the War of the Ancients. The second one was during the Third War. The third invasion (attempted) was when the Legion managed to open the Dark Portal and send troops into Azeroth, led by Highlord Kruul. Now, why aren't the battles between Aegwynn and the dragons versus the Legion and the avatar of Sargeras in Northrend not being seen as an invasion — attempted or otherwise?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 15:22, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok, when asking ME why I reverted your edits, confront me on User talk:Ragestorm. I don't know what the position on Kruul is but the First Invasion was the War of the Ancients, and the Second Invasion was the Third War. Check [www.worldofwarcraft.com], whenever they refer to the second invasion, they're talking about the Third War. I'm not sure exactly what the incident with Aegwynn was, but it's not an invasion. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 15:28, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Hunter macro help

I would like to know if there is a line/command I could use to display my pet's name in a chat box, similar to how you use '%t' for displaying your target's name. Reason being I have some RPish macros that display a line of text with my pet's name manually typed in, but I want the macros to work for any pet I use. The macro I use:

#showtooltip
/cast Hunter's Mark
/run SendChatMessage(GetRandomArgument("Attack, Euronymous!((break for no page stretching))
Show them the meaning of pain!", "Have at you!", "Make quick work of them, Euro.", "You have become the hunted, %t!", "Kill them, now!"), "SAY")
/point
/petattack

Euronymus being my pet's name (Euro, for short). Just want to replace those with whatever possible command allows the current pet's name to be used. Thanks!

(NOTE: My account has been banned from the WoW Forums, otherwise I woul dhave asked there first *eek!*)

-- Ayalafatalis (talk) 22:15, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

There isn't a %-substitution for pet name (the only ones I can find are %f for the name of your focus, and %n and %t for the name of your target), but you can use UnitName("pet"):
/run SendChatMessage(GetRandomArgument("Attack, "..UnitName("pet").."!
Show them the meaning of pain!","Have at you!","Make quick work of them, "..UnitName("pet")..".","You have become the hunted, %t!",
"Kill them, now!"),"SAY")
It's quite a bit longer than %p would be - 19 extra characters - but hopefully you can find room in the macro for it.

It also includes random timed emotes, and the ability to insert a pet's name with %p. Hope this helps.. --Azaram (talk) 07:35, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

/say vs. Default Chat Window (Language Question)

I've noticed something highly irritating about the /say command... If you use the /say command in a macro or an AddOn uses the /say command without any additional code, it spits out whatever comes after "/say" using your character's non-racial language instead of whatever language you have selected. Is there an alternative to using /say which reads what language you're using at the moment and uses that one instead of defaulting to Common or Orcish? I'd like to modify my copy of AnnoyRP to use my selected language instead of the default languages. (The alternative is to get a Horde character over where my Alliance character is and have the Alliance character say what I want "translated" so I can copy it from the Horde screen. Which is kind of irritating.) ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 05:40, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

What you see when someone says something in a different faction or language you don't speak is not set... there are a few things like 'bur' (alliance) = 'lol' (Horde) I have heard, but most of them are picked from a list of words of the same length. So having someone of the opposite faction say something will probably end up with it being just randomly retranslated again. Frex, at Taur-ahe there is a list of the random words that things will get translated to (I'm pretty sure the same thing is on other languages as well, just happened to be the first one I looked at). --Azaram (talk) 07:45, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

And you thought the Twisting Nether had a lot of aliases

I found a word that has as many aka's as the Twisting Nether. Undead. The words Undead, Dead, Infected, Corrupted, and Sickly come to mind. Now Undead and Dead are easy to understand. Infected, Corrupted, and Sickly could get confusing though. Does sickly have anything to do with being undead? Does corrupted have anything to do with being Undead? Does infected mean your still human but will soon become an Undead? Or is it just a stage of being Undead like Zombie is a stage to becoming a Ghoul?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 02:55, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Corrupted isn't specific to undead, it describes anything that had been corrupted. If you're infected with the undead plague, it means you will soon be one of the undead. Other than that, I have no idea what you're talking about. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 03:16, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Well is sickly just having to do with being diseased and not undead? Also, Corrupted Spirit and Redpath the Corrupted are undead. Finally, I just wanted to make sure "infected" means your still alive.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 03:45, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Corrupted doesn't have to mean you're undead, it can simply mean you've been turned to the "darkside". As for sickly... just means you're sick... see Sickly Deer... which might be a bad example cause it looks undead, but it's simply poisoned. Yeah I saw the Sickly Deer. A lot of animals are sickly and look sort of undead, but it says they can be cured or cleansed which means just diseased I guess.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 05:21, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Undeath in the Warcraft universe spreads primarily through plague as well as magic, play Reign of Chaos for more information. Therefore, the plague or sickness motif can easily be connected with the undead, though this is certainly not always the case. Note that green- or red-skinned orcs, blood elves, felblood (or anything with the prefix "fel"), liches, ogre-mages, warlocks, eredar, satyr, centaurs, and other individuals of any race are also corrupted. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 01:23, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
I hardly think it's a mentionable occurence. Referring to the Undead as "sickly", "infected", or "corrupted" is merely giving them a description. It's akin to saying Africans are "dark skinned", it's not another term for them, just a way of describing them or their condition. Vicera (talk) 16:41, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Apparently, every win in a Battleground has a chance to give you the Medallion, which summons a Chinese dragon like non-combat pet. By participating on any Battleground untill the end of the match, without quitting/deserting, you get a tabard. Not sure if you do need to win to get the tabard, though, but I don't think so. Please correct me if wrong. Both items will be mailed to you after you leave the Battleground. RR Fang (talk) 01:38, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Pom Pyro is a dead PvP spec if we're being honest with ourselves. If you want to raid go with deep fire, but i suggest investing enough in frost to pick up Icy Veins. I'd rekomend somthing like this: [7]. Put the rest of the talents points in wherever you want them. Your rotation should be open with pyroblast, Icy veins and combustion whenever they're up,5x scorch to keep fire vunrbility up and spam fire ball.

Assuming you're running WoW on a PC, it sounds like you either moved Launcher.exe from the C:\World of Warcraft\ directory or you moved WoW.exe. Have you been moving any files around? Sunder Armor/Devastate Threat?

One thing I've been curious about. Some tanks have tried telling me that Protection Warriors gain MORE threat if they stack sunders using just Sunder Armor, then use Devastate to re-apply. I always thought that Devastate was meant to replace Sunder, as it has the same rage cost, and does extra damage on top of sunder. Other Tanks have agreed with me on this. I have looked up information on threat-by-ability for warriors and it also supports that Devastate gives more threat.

So is there ANY credibility to stacking sunders using Sunder Armor, or is Devastate truly meant to be used both in stacking and re-applying? -- Vicera (talk) 15:47, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like Devastate does replace Sunder Armor, since Patch 2.3 (see Tips and tactics section of Sunder Armor article):
  • In Patch 2.3, the Warrior 41-point Protection-tree talent Inv sword 11 [Devastate] was changed to essentially be a Ability warrior sunder [Sunder Armor] that also causes damage. A successful Devastate will cause a Sunder Armor effect on the mob, will generate the additional threat that a Sunder Armor generates, and will also cause damage based on the number of Sunder Armor effects on the target and the dps rating of the Warrior's main-hand weapon. This ultimately means that a Warrior with the Devastate ability will be able to use it in any situation where the Sunder Armor effect was previously used (although if they choose to use Sunder Armor this remains a distinct ability).
I also have a prot warrior friend who says he doesn't use Sunder Armor, since the change to Devastate. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:40 AM PST 18 Aug 2008
Inv sword 11 [Devastate] supersedes Ability warrior sunder [Sunder Armor] for protection warriors. In fact you can pretty much spam [Devastate] while grinding till you have five applications and watch the damage done go up per hit. It makes grinding solo with a protection warrior a lot easier. Usually I have found that I can land two or three Devastates before Ability warrior devastate [Victory Rush] expires which increases the damage Ability warrior devastate [Victory Rush] does User:Sharlin/Sig 10:23, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Names

A heads-up to everyone. I noticed that names on some maps (like Lands of Conflict) are in all capital letters. For example, ZUL'DARE is shown as so on the map and the page name is called Zul'Dare. In Warcraft II, though, it is spelled as Zul'dare. So, unless another source says otherwise, all the pages with a name that has an apostrophe somewhere in it should be double checked just in case. It might just affect location names and not people's names since I don't think there are many maps with names of people on them. I am not sure how many instances there are, hopefully only a few.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 07:05, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

In that case, go with whatever whatever the in-game or WoW.com maps say. They'll probably be inconsistent anyway. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 12:56, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I think that world of warcraft would be more fun if you could understand the other faction. But I'm not saying you just atomatically get it, no. But what if you earn it though like a rosetta stone system. Like if you do some pvp or do some quest you can earn a rosseta stone. Or you could just learn it from a trainer.

True; I was thinking more PVP. Most people seem not to have any etiquette; everything on that page has become more and more common, in my opinion and experience, at least. Pets are also useful in groups when you stealth so the rest of the party can see where you are more easily. Mobs don't react to them. --Azaram (talk) 12:59, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
My rogue has engineering and it's quite fun to pop out combat pets like [Gnomish Battle Chicken] and [Mithril Mechanical Dragonling] for a short time. I should make an [Arcanite Dragonling], but I got distracted making [Deathblow X11 Goggles]. You do have to work at engineering for awhile to get a battle chicken, though, since it requires at least 230 engineering to make. Warlock Raid build advice for new raider

Hi all...

I'm new at raiding and would like some input from you more experianced 'Locks. I've looked at two builds that seem good and would like input on both.

My stats unbuffed:

    Stam 609 Int 352 Spi 141 Armor 1668
    Crit 16.1 Pene 35 Damage 738/Fire 818/Fr-Sh 997
    Health 9836 Mana 7843

Proposed builds:

Unstable Affliction/Destructive Reach raid build 44/0/17
    DS/S&F (0/21/40) Shadow

At the moment I'm leaning towards the first one as I'm an addict of dots, life tap and drain life. However I'm also used to my big felguard protecting me so this will all be a big change.

Please, you awesomely experianced raiders, give me your thoughts and opinions. It will be most appreciated :D

Calendar of Azeroth

From what I know, the calendar of Azeroth basically is the Gregorian one (though that memory might stem from something non-canon)
However, do they have other names for the months, do they number the days of a month? I could not find any good info on this so far, neither here nor in the RPG sources available to me, they only ever mention "x years/months ago" etc.
Thanks in advance for any useful help! ~ <imagelink>IconSmall Druid.gif|User:Nathanyel</imagelink>ŋɑϑ 14:59, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

(Fixed ZOMGHUGEBOX. --Azaram (talk) 04:54, 19 October 2008 (UTC))
I have some info. For a time in Azeroth, at least for the Humans, they were using that calender that you can see in games like Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. I am not sure when, but it was eventually changed to the "Gregorian" calendar I think to match real life. Now if you look at Horatio Montgomery, M.D.'s memorial in-game they have something called BTFT and ATFT as the name of the years. I haven't seen it anywhere else though. The only difference between the Azeroth calender and our calender though is that they include the Year 0. If you look at some timelines they actually skipped the Year 0 like we do. It seems though that they are using the Year 0 lately. Both versions use the opening of the Portal as the time when the years went from - to +. The timelines that use the Year 0 say that the Dark Portal oepned in the Year 0. The timelines that skip the Year 0 say that the Dark Portal opened in the Year 1. As for months, you can find the words Selune-Spring in the Journal of Brann and he says Day 1, Day 5, etc. Also, he says in the RPG in his travels things like "winter" and "spring". I think they number the days of the months just like real life since they are following our calender nowadays, albeit with the Year 0 included. One more piece of information, although it has to do with hours, the Dwarves in Ironforge used to have a 30 hour day instead of a 24 hour day. They changed it to match the rest of the Alliance. This is all the Azeroth info I can think of. The orcs I think had their own concept in the past because they mention "cycles" a lot in lore. Pre-n00b questions

Alright. My windows machine will be up and ready in a week or two, and I was looking to try World of Warcraft. After looking over a few things, I still had some questions and thoughts. Just curious;

I've seen people talk up two-weapon fighting, two-handed weapons...but I haven't seen anyone use a shield. Are shields available? Is it worth using one?

Can undead males have beards?

Is there a point to using ranged weapons for warrior/rogues, or are those only useful for hunters?

Am I correct in assuming that mounts cannot fight? Can you fight while mounted?

I've noticed that mounts, and a few other things, require you to have a certain rep among the race that associated with them. Does it take much effort to gain rep with a certain race, or will that just happen as a matter of course?

Yes, I know these are ridiculous, but f anyone could let me know I'd appreciate it.

Does it take more courage to twice traverse a staircase in flames, or make a one-time leap into a smoking volcano?

Yes. If tanking.
No.

Thanks! Bummer about the undead, though. Eh, well. -- TheCrookedPath (talk) 01:00, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

About the ranged weapons for warriors/rogues: these classes usually don't use them actively (except for pulling) but they wear them anyway, since all basic stats on them (Strength/AP, Agility/Crit, Hit) still count towards their melee abilities. What you can ignore when looking at ranged weapons is their "damage per second" and "Chance on hit" effects, as these only apply to actively using that weapon. It's the other way around for hunters, who wear melee weapons for their stats only, excluding rare situations where they have to melee an enemy that got too close.
On the mounts, you don't need any reputation to acquire your own race's mount, so don't worry about having to run. ;) Though, if you want a different mount, you have to farm their associated factions to Exalted. ~ <imagelink>IconSmall Druid.gif|User:Nathanyel</imagelink>ŋɑϑ 13:02, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't think Velinde Starsong contacted Arugal. They both "brought" the worgen into the world, Arugal in Silverpine Forest and Velinde in Ashenvale, but seperately. The worgen in Duskwood are connected to Velinde somewhat. They both "summoned" the worgen from another dimension thinking it would help against their respective enemies, the undead in Arugal's case and the demons in Velinde's case.Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 01:46, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, she wanted to consult him but he had already summoned some worgen on his own and seperate from her. I thought that was what Seidra was asking about when he said the timeline doesn't fit. We don't even know if she ever got to Arugal as she was last seen in Duskwood I believe, and the Scythe of Elune was lost there but worgen stared appearing. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 03:52, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I think we can take it as a given she never got there and that she and Arugal summoned Worgen independently. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 13:26, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

shamans are userful fr mana sring totens, but i think the best for a druid on end game content is to heal because they are really good on it as for their phisical damage, many ther classes do it and do it well, making a druid/shaman a second option for dungeons and about raids, well, i hope u have important friends on ur guild :P Azahel (talk) 09:37, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

I'd have to say if it's any of the three, then most probably. As a druid tank, I've got around 40% dodge self buffed, up to 55% in a raid, so I'm dodging a lot. Paladins and warriors can have considerably more mitigation with parry and block, as well as their other abilities. --Azaram (talk) 00:51, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
I'd go with yes, but you have to remember that it is still a random number thing. Unless you have 100% avoidance a dodge, parry, or block is never guaranteed. That said, in a raid (which is I assume what you're concerned about) there's anywhere from 1-3 tanks mitigating hits, so the likelihood of avoidance happening is pretty high. For anyone who is interested, the patch is 1.2 GB so, depending on your connection, set a few hours aside. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 06:36, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

For EU, the size is even 1.6 GB. Also, please note that the updater "needs" 6GB of free space on the partition that WoW is installed on, say it's ignoring the existing installation and assumes it needs enough space to install WoW anew. While it doesn't actually require that much space, it doesn't proceed unless there is "enough" free space. *edit* I take it all back, it does need that much space, and actually more, maybe aronud 9, as the updater basically creates copies of all files in the Data folder (where most of the bytes lie) in the process. I got a "not enough free space" warning at 80%, hastily freed up much more space, and when the updater finished, the free space jumped from ~300MB to 9,27GB Emot-argh My WoW installation now is at 10GB, with Interface&WTF only taking up 200MB... admitted, 1GB is still having deDE data though I decided to switch to enGB for good after seeing Mob "Scoodles" being translated with the name of some dachshund in a German crappy trash comedy series. I'm not familiar with the RPG, but if Charisma was introduced with the "World of..." extension, than that happened after WoW was released. Also, I guess we can assume WoW's reputation system and Diplomacy cover that RPG-y aspect. There's no "oh you look like a trustful lad, here, would you take my gold to the bank since I'm lazy" but "oh you did so much for my race/faction, want some phat lewt (for a small gold fee)?". ~ <imagelink>IconSmall Druid.gif|User:Nathanyel</imagelink>ŋɑϑ 09:48, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
I think it was introduced in the "World of Warcraft..." edition. It is supposed to help with things like Diplomacy, although with not just Humans, and it helps with spellcasters in a way. I think it is less a "make an NPC do what I want" but more of a "convinse an NPC not to hit you 5 times on the head" type of ability. LOL Well there is always a future patch. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 11:15, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

LOL The RPG actually mentions Charisma helping healers get "accepted" into party groups or convincing the group that they could be their leader due to the fact that, and I think this is still thought by some players currently, that groups don't really care or need a healer. Blue edge flash when taking flight path...

Has anyone else been experiencing a blue edge flash (similar to the red edge flash when you are below half health) when taking a flight path? If so, have you been able to turn it off?? It's really annoying. It wasn't there before 3.0.2

Illidan dead forever?

I was just wandering now that Illidan is dead, is it possible for him to return when the emerald dream becomes the center of attention in a future expansion. He was a night elf and the brother of Malfurion so is it possible for him (even through death) to still have some connection to the emerald dream? Or did this connection die out as soon as he took the skull of guldan? I have been thinking about this for awhile so i would like a answer. -- Monte123 (talk) 22:09, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Return of Xavius

I was wondering if Xavius would make an appearance when the emerald dream becomes an expansion in the future. I think he would love nothing more than to get his revenge against the malfurion and the night elves and he could possibly be working with the old gods to accomplish his goals. So i guess my question is whether or not Xavius could be a possible threat in the future.

-- Monte123 (talk) 22:48, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

No, he is dead forever and ever and ever. No retcons can ever happen again. g0urra[T҂C] 22:55, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Xavius's body was completly destroyed. Roots and branches grew in his arteries and veins, taking nourishment from his body. Every cell was taken and used as fertilizer. He wasn't turned into a tree; it's more accurate to say that the tree ate him. Then there's the fact that his spirit- whatever was left of it or whatever was able to survive- belonged to Sargeras, not the Old Gods, so if he did survive somehow, he would have been sent to the Twisting Nether, not the Emerald Dream (which he was probably unable to access anyway), and not to the Old Gods. This is unlikely as he would have probably been part of the Second Invasion.
So, unless several things are retconned, no, Xavius cannot be a possible threat, and it is not part of our modus operandi to anticipate retcons.--Ragestorm (talk · contr)

Draenei Death Knights?

So I had a thought just now. Death Knights are not limited to race so there can be draenei death knights. Sure no problem. Except... Light of the Naaru. In retrospect, death knights using the Holy Light to heal them is pretty funny. IconSmall ArcaneGuardianMantriox/T/C 21:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

After the whole blood elf paladin thing, I pretty much gave up hope for any Warcraft lore consistency in WoW. Blizzard seems heavily in favor of retconning and manipulating lore to serve gameplay these days and only slightly inclined the other direction.
My only hope is their lack of allegiance to lore will allow player built cities or perhaps a more dynamic world where the Horde can take over historically Alliance towns or vice versa. The isolated PvP zones in only high level areas just feel like they were shoe-horned into the game. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:10 PM PST 7 Nov 2008
Using holy powers as an undead and even member of the Scourge, isn't that unusual, actually. Sir Zeliek of the 4 Horsemen uses holy damage, and even Balnazzar can use holy attacks in his Dathrohan disguise, probably abusing remnants of holy power from Dathrohan's body. The Arakkoa of Sethekk Halls have paladin-like warriors, that also use holy abilities. That's only a few examples of "evil" NPCs using holy abilities. The Light or at least its power is not that much of a sentient being that would deny certain beings the use of it. Just like with other powers, you just have to know how.
They could disable LotN until the DK defects from the Scourge, but that would be unnecessary coding effort.
Oh and Fandyllic, how do you expect PvP areas to not be influenced by high-level players? Tongueout ~ Nathanyel (talk) 14:29, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

The US realms have apparently been down pretty much all day rather than the normal 6 hours or so... I think Blizzard didn't give enough QA time for their servers for this expansion release. I predict massive instability for at least a month. Anyone else think it's gonna go better? The Wrath-Logo-Small beta was much worse than the Bc icon beta from what I can tell. I also noticed that more quests seem to be broken since the attempt to integrate Wrath-Logo-Small. This could be the end for Blizzard's string of quality releases. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:07 PM PST 11 Nov 2008

Getting back into the World of Warcraft

Moved from Village pump.

Initially, at my sons and daughters requests I signed in and played WoW for quite some time, and even got a couple of my characters slightly up in levels. Then wham, my son got serious cancer and in a few months he died. I had stopped playing from the time I found he got sick and just got back into the game a couple of weeks ago. We're talking from Nov. 2007 through about 2 weeks ago. I cannot believe the changes the game has gone through. I'm sure I'm not the only player restarting after a long hiatus, and I was just wondering if it's just me or has things gotten more confusing in the time I've been away? Anything that would make this transition any more logical or updated info would be greatly appreciated. My mainly played toon is an almost lev. 30, Dwarf Hunter on Uldamon server. -- Rchilders757 (talk) 02:57, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Funny that you describe it as more confusing. Many of us have observed that the game has gotten much easier. Blizzard has added features to make the game easier to play. (Many are things I think the game should have had from day one, and were lacking only for lack of programmer resources.) For example, there's the minimap tracking features for easily finding quest givers and other kinds of NPCs. There's mounts at 30. There's more bank slots. Mail between alts transits instantly. (There's still an hour delay between different accounts.) I'd encourage you to read through the patch notes for the last year to see all the features that have changed. I'd also suggest joining a good forum site. I personally like alt.games.warcraft, but many others are listed at Fansites. -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 18:29, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
You may be confused more by the proliferation of content at higher levels. If you stick to the basics of asking people questions in general chat, questing, and grouping up for harder quests things should smooth out. Seeing all the different high level character running around on all the new funky mounts (Amani Bears, BlizzCon Polar Bears, green flaming hoof Headless Horseman mounts, etc.) is probably throwing you off.
Content up through level 60 has mostly been made easier (elites turned into non-elites mostly), reduced, or simplified. Unfortunately for those who want to want to take it slow and experience the storyline, Blizzard has killed alot of that to please those who want to level to the cap fast and favored game mechanics to lore. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 12:19 PM PST 18 Nov 2008

First thing I tried. None of the big three (Wowhead, Thottbot, Allakhazam) seem to have any data on training costs for the basic skill (ie. apprentice, journeyman, expert artisan, master, grand master). They list recipes and trainers, but not the skill cap bump. But I'd welcome a pointer to an example page on those sites showing data for one profession. -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 21:25, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Dire bear armor nerf?

My in game tooltip is showing 370% armor instead of the previous and correct 450%. I didn't see that in any patch notes, did I miss it? --Azaram (talk) 12:44, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

More Blizzard craziness. Wowinsider has a good article looking at the changes, so you can read to see their take on it. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:53 AM PST 21 Nov 2008
Lovely. Not only did they take away a ton of armor (nearly a third of mine), there won't be any good armor to replace it. And they're taking away the good armor I do have. --Azaram (talk) 03:53, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
It wasn't changed from 450%. The 2.4->3.0 change was 400%->370% (450% is long gone in history, back in the 1.12->2.0 patch, if memory serves), and the new talent trees combined with significantly increased output from dps and healers should more than compensate for it at 70, especially with the 30% reduction in raid boss health. They are not taking away your effective armor, although the +armor bonus on non-armor items is going to simplify loot tables, and the number will be smaller. The Blizz devs have clearly stated that it's both been carefully considered and will be monitored to ensure that bears are just as viable for tanking in the 71-80 instances and 80 raids as the other 3 tanking classes. So, no craziness, no nerf, no changes to get upset about, just a modification to the mechanics that should come out about the same at the end of the day. Sure, it's a relatively significant change from 2.x, but it shouldn't take much to learn how to be an effective bear tank in 3.0. If you have encountered situations where it's come out as a real nerf to you, there's either something wrong with your gear, technique, or group/raid, or you need to post precise details of the problem on the Blizz forums for the devs to see. --Murph (talk · contr) 20:44, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
I went from over 30k armor to 21k. (~73% damage mitigation to less than 68%...don't have it handy to look at). I'd call a third of my armor a pretty significant loss. 'There won't be any good armor to replace it' is based on "Second, leather gear in the Expansion has been designed to have standard point values for armor based on item level. There will be no more items with 'green' armor values. " from the Wowinsider article Fandyllic posted. And 'They're taking away the good armor I do have' is based on "In fact, in Patch 3.0, even the existing items are getting changed to have their armor values dropped." from the same place. So, without changing any gear at all, I log in and I've lost a third of my armor. Not exactly 'something wrong with my gear, technique, or group/raid'. I hadn't been tanking in a while, as I was playing my hunter, so I guess it happened at the 3.0 patch and I just hadn't noticed until I actually needed it, and I misremembered the 450%, but it's not exactly not a nerf. --Azaram (talk) 02:14, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes the numbers will have changed, but what you are seeing as a 30%-ish reduction in armor is actually a much smaller reduction in mitigation, thanks to the diminishing returns mechanic. When you combine this with the removal of crushing blows, new talent trees, reduction in health by 30% of level 70 raid bosses, increased output from dps and healers, and all the other changes from 2.4 to 3.0, it's not really a nerf to how bears were performing at level 70 in 2.4. From what I've seen, bears still make very viable tanks at level 70, the instances on the way to 80, and at 80 itself. Every single boss fight I have seen so far in 3.0.3, with a well geared bear as the tank has gone well, even when we were on level 80 content with a level 75 healer. I stand by what I said before, if a bear can't tank roughly equivalently to a warrior, paladin, or death knight in any given situation, there's something wrong with gear, group, talents, or technique. If such situations become apparent (and it's not down to one of the above), you need to post precise details on the Blizz forums to bring the situation to the attention of the developers.
Sure, some fights may still favour one class of tank over others, but that should be a minority of cases. Some classes of tank may have to work harder in certain situations, or may require a bit more healing, but all should be viable. If they hadn't changed the numbers on bear equipment, they would have been vastly overpowered with the 3.0 changes. If you read the whole of the Wowinsider article in detail, there's lots to explain the change, and it pretty much clarifies that bears are intended to be perfectly viable and approximately equal main tanks for WotLK content. There are very few parts of 3.0 that can be viewed on their own - you have to consider the combined package of changes and how they are working. E.g. I lost about 10% of my moonkin spell damage number in the conversion to spell power, but my damage output went up, possibly by as much as 10%. --Murph (talk · contr) 06:53, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Questions

How does an alliance character get to the Ghostlands? AND Where do I find a weapons master that trains above 350? -- Daphine (talk) 13:04, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

You ride along the road through northern Eastern Plaguelands to a portal that transports you to Ghostlands. There's no weapon trainers that will "train" you after 350; you get another 5 points in weapon skill to level up to when you gain a level (level 60 = 300 weapon skill points, level 61 = 305 weapon skill points, etc. g0urra[T҂C] 13:13, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Basically, weapon masters are for learning how to use a whole new kind of weapon. So for example if you were a druid, druids can learn staves, 1h and 2h maces, daggers, and fist-weapons. I believe druids do not come "pre-loaded" with fist-weapons, so if you wanted to learn those, you would need to see the weapon master in Darnassus, Ironforge, or Orgrimmar. Once you have learned a new type of weapon, you get skill points from attacking something with a weapon of that type. One of the best ways to skill up a new weapon type is with the training dummies that have been installed in cities.
You can check the class list to see which weapons are available for your class. If you've got all of them already, you're all set! -Howbizr (talk) 18:14, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

LFG system order of instances

I asked this once a long time ago, but never had an answer. Your "Instances By Level" guide ( http://www.wowwiki.com/Instances_by_level ) is excellent. It lists instances basically in order of difficulty.

Regarding the in-game LFG system (the one accessed by the green button), it lets you choose from a selection of recommended instances. Even if other instances are allowable, they won't be available through this method. As I move up through new levels, the list of instances through the LFG system changes accordingly. The order in which new instances have appeared in that list (and later dropped off the list) is following some other logic than the one listed in the guide. Does anyone understand this order? I can only say for sure it is NOT the same as the guide's order. Thank you.

-- Jsgelk@yahoo.com (talk) 08:25, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

I will investigate, but here's my educated guess. I recall the actual order in the drop down is alphabetical. What appears in the dropdown (and when they drop off) are instances that are "green through orange" to you. So if the portal requires level 60 to enter (aka "orange") you won't see it at 59. On the other hand, if the instance requires level 15 and you're level 60 (aka "gray") you also won't see it.
If you go to the WoW Flashmap, which unfortunately does not include Northrend (yet, I hope), when you go to the detail view per instance, you can see the Blizzard level range by mousing over the blue swirl icons. I believe the bottom end of the range is not the recommended level but the actual requirements with the portal ("orange"), and the top end of the range is "green".
For example, Hellfire Citadel lists Ramparts as 60-62. I'd like to talk to a player in game who is 63, for example, and ask him if Ramparts is still available in his LFG interface.
You used to be able to see the level range within the game from the summoning stone, but it's no longer there since they repurposed them. That I am aware of, there is no longer a good way to see the level requirements from within the game, without some brute force testing.
If you were going to add this information to the pages, you might use Atlas Mod as a source. I believe they've gathered this information, and it should be consistent with the flashmap (last I checked, but that was several patches ago).
Hopefully this is some help... -Howbizr (talk) 23:08, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Transmutes common Northrend metals and crystallized life into a titanium bar. You have a chance to discover other transmutations when successful.

Can low level's tank?

Moved from Village pump.

I would have thought not because the gear doesnt give your character enough armor to defend against attack so you still lose tons of health? -- Madmenrus (talk) 15:54, 14 December 2008 (UT

Lower level characters can tank just fine, as long as they are geared appropriately for their level, and on appropriate level content (i.e. within the level ranges on Instances by level). The lower level instances and bosses are tuned to allow a reasonably geared 5 person group complete them without significantly more difficulty than an end-game group on end-game instances. If anything, the lower level content may be less demanding, as it's not expected that the entire group will be maximally geared for their level, or have the same experience in running dungeons that high level groups should have. --Murph (talk · contr) 18:56, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Given I was overgeared... As in BT/Hyjal gear at 70, but I was tanking multiple orange mobs at the same time with little difficulty on Euphonia - doing AN and most of Old Kingdom. Red became problematic because too many hits would fail, including a good number of taunts. -Howbizr (talk) 04:11, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
I just think that when you look at any damage taken on your character and other eoples it doesnt seem reduced by much and also i think when you get plate you could tank a lot better because you have an advantage over rogues wearing leather because of the damage reduction im not sure ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Madmenrus (talk · contr).
I can tell you from experience, even when a plate wearer comes into a relatively "easy" instance but is not tanked specced, and has no tank gear, you will probably fail to down the bosses. Really the armor is only part of the mitigation formula. Stamina, being uncrittable, block (for some classes), dodge, and threat are all factors. But I think I've gotten off topic. -Howbizr (talk) 18:16, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Also at low levels should you focus on stamina armor stats or strengths? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Madmenrus (talk · contr).

Please sign your posts on talk pages - use four tildes at the end of your comment (~~~~). Tanks should try to have the best gear they can reasonably get, and it's a balance of stats - there's little point in keeping an item because you like the stamina on it when the item is 10+ levels below your character. Armor, stamina, and defense are key stats for all tanks, but there's also dodge, parry, and block, where appropriate. What level are you talking about when you say "low levels" - I'd been interpreting that as say level 10-40, others have been talking about level 60-70, or even early 70s? You might also want to discuss this on the Blizzard forums ([9] or [10]), and read the stickies there - WoWWiki is not really the best place for this type of discussion. --Murph (talk · contr) 19:42, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Around levels 10-25 --Madmenrus (talk) 19:58, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
So levels 10-25, it isn't as important that you have someone fill the "tank" and "healer" roles. But yes it will probably be easier to with someone wearing mail, a shield, and stacking some extra stamina or maybe even defense to practice the tank role. But I've completed dungeons in that level range with little to no organization.
Trying to stay on topic, I might re-read the tank article to see if something could be added to address the general "tanking before 80" topic. Although it does already discuss rogues and other as tanks. -Howbizr (talk) 18:36, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Pet Problems?

Moved from Village pump.

I am a level 15 Hunter character with a level 15 pet.My problem is that the pet keeps disappearing after a time when I am running to another location. I have to keep calling the pet back. The pet is almost always fed to a level of 125% attack, but it doesn't stick around if I have been running for a time. Any ideas would be appreciatedin advance. Thanks. -- Ghostwind59 (talk) 20:30, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

I don't think that's ever happened to me on the hunters I've tried to level (gotten to about level 40). I would try opening a ticket with Blizz. Might also troll the forums to see if anyone else has the same problem, but it sounds pretty weird to me. Does it happen with just a certain kind of pet, or any kind? (turtle, cat, bear, etc). -Howbizr (talk) 20:39, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I know this was an issue back in the day (before any xpaks) where pets just weren't able to keep up with hunters, especially when mounted, but it seems to me that its a bug of some sort... cause this hasn't been an issue for quite some time. If you're not used to the way hunter pets work, it could be that the pet is engaging in combat with something that you have run past. If this happens and the pet is in aggressive or defensive mode, it will stop following you and fight. If you keep running, the pet will despawn when you get out of range (not quite the same as being dismissed, but it will need to be called back). If that's not the case, it's relatively unlikely that it's a bug in the game unless there's lots of talk about it on the Blizz forums, and is either something that you are doing causing the pet to stop moving / get stuck / disappear, or it's a problem with an AddOn. --Murph (talk · contr) 21:43, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Good point, Murph. So just try using Ability SealPassive mode when traveling around and see if that fixes it! -Howbizr (talk) 05:21, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Defining a quest chain

If completing a chain "unlocks" another quest given by a neighboring NPC, is it part of the chain? For example withN [70] Speak with the Ogre unlocks Bombing Run and then Bomb Them Again!. -Howbizr (talk) 18:22, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

I would say no, as chains tend to follow mini story arcs of some kind, however it does count as a prerequisite for the other quest(chain). User:Decibal/Sig 19:01, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Technically speaking, a "chain" is where the followup quest is immediately offered to the player upon turnin. If the player must talk to the NPC a second time, or another NPC, to get the next quest they are not "linked". Those quests are simply prerequisites. However, here on the wiki, if those prereq breaks still join together to form a simple series of quests (i.e. it doesn't branch out into a second quest chain), we usually consider the entire thing a chain. Your example wouldn't be a chain, because the prereq quest opens up a number of other quests. TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 22:12, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

[Druid] Weapon damage to FAP formula in 3.0.8

Okay, so in 3.0.8 Blizzard is making Druid AP scale with WMD to make more weapons appeal to druids. What I want to know is... How is it going to scale? I really doubt it's just DPS x 14, because that'd be extremely OP, if anyone knows how it scales I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
