Wowhead is a World of Warcraft information database featuring a JavaScript interface. The site catalogs items, quests, talents, and much more — all able to be searched, sorted, and arranged to find the information needed. Wowhead is currently the only major database website that has been mentioned by Blizzard in their Community Spotlight.

The website started out as a talent calculator in December 2005. The talent calculator offers the ability to import builds from Blizzard talent calculators. It was in beta from April 4th to June 25th, 2006[2], and the database was released on June 26th, 2006[3].

Wowhead makes extensive use of AJAX for its interface function and requires JavaScript to be enabled in order to function.

The following descriptions have been quoted directly off http://www.wowhead.com/?aboutus.

Guillaume (Skosiris) - <Site Director>
Guillaume is the co-founder of Wowhead as well as the lead designer and the senior member of the team. He has a ton of experience with PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL. He's also the man responsible for Wowhead's unique design and intuitive user interface. Guillaume is the obsessive-compulsive member of the team, not happy unless every pixel is in its proper place.
Casey (Malgayne) - <Content/Community Lead>
Casey is responsible for everything on Wowhead that's generated by a person rather than by a computer. He manages the team of volunteer moderators, editors and bloggers that provide us with all of that extra juicy content, and keep our forums neat and clean. He also takes care of giveaways, contests and promotions on Wowhead, so if you've got some swag to give away, send him an email! Casey is the hyperactive member of the team, always talking to fifteen different people simultaneously.
Shaun (TheOnyx) <Development Manager>
Shaun is the team's development manager. He's responsible for scheduling releases, assigning tasks, planning out enhancements, and essentially making sure the site doesn't die in a fiery crash. He keeps the site in tip top shape and ensures that we're all using the best possible methods to maintain and improve the site.
Claire (PoeticDragon) <Software Developer>
Claire is a web development prodigy, who's been working on Wowhead behind the scenes for a long time. She's already acted as the driving force behind a number of projects, including the item comparison, weight scales, and hunter pet calculator, as well as being instrumental in the creation of the profiler!
Joshua (Mystadio) - <Software Developer>
Joshua co-founded Wowhead with Guillaume in high school, and today he's responsible for the maintenance of the data found on the site. He is a skilled developer and a whiz at C++ and Lua. Joshua is at his best when he's finding simple answers to complex problems.
Alayton (alayton)<Software Developer>
Alayton has been working behind the scenes on projects for the ZAM Network for some time – including the 3D Model Viewer – and now he's become a full time addition to the Wowhead team! Alayton's responsibilities are expanding all the time... fortunately so far he seems to be enjoying the stress.
Brielle (Miyari) <Content Manager>
Brielle is the hardest working girl in the MMO industry. She helps create new features, maintains data integrity across the site, and sorts all of our screenshots. Brielle's fingerprints are on everything the site puts up, including maps, miniboxes, comments, forum posts, and much more. Brielle is the adorable member of the team – she even has her own fan club!
Sarah (Noxychu) <Artist>
Sarah is Wowhead's in-house fine artist, responsible for a number of pieces of artwork found around the site (including the portraits on this very page), as well as the Wowhead Comic. She's also available for commissions through her own website (Noxychu.com)... as long as you leave her enough time to keep making drawings for us.

Ownership

Wowhead was originally a privately owned site, owned by its founders, Joshua and Guillaume. During June 2007, Wowhead was sold to ZAM Network, a wholly owned subsidiary of Affinity Media, after several management and hosting changes.
